We don't get to pick our own bodies, though some of us struggle mightily to customize the model we end up with. One of the most interesting parts about fictional works, however, is that the creators of fiction — whatever medium they work in — get to build a world. They get to create whole entire races of people. They choose names, loaded with meaning and cultural allusion.
