More than six months ago I had the pleasure to chat with one of the guys behind World of Pirates. The MMOP! (Massively Multiplayer Online Pirates!), which also features city management aspects, is currently being beta-tested and it's interesting to see how things have developed since then. The stunt racing genre has been 'asleep' for quite a while. Twelve years after games such as Stunt Driver, 4D Sports Driving and Stunt Car Racer the niche is slowly becoming popular again. Infogrames released Stuntman not too long ago and Moon Byte and Bugbear are working on Crashday and Flat-Out respectively.

I saw over at Slashdot Games where there was an article about an attempt to create a canon for gaming. Somewhat like a literary canon, which is a collection of works that are essential to read for anyone serious about literature. Everything from Tic Tac Toe to Halo is included though there are a few omissions.

Recent stories hinted at a rather weak launch of Nokia's cell phone/gaming handheld combo in the UK and in the US. Ilkka Raiskinen, "senior vice president entertainment and media" at Nokia, however, states that the company shipped 400,000 units so far according to this Reuters story.The number refers to models Nokia has sold to shops and other retail outlets, but Raiskinen said sale

CDV Cancels Some More

In their struggle to reach financially healthy regions again CDV announces the cancellation of two more projects. After having put the promising Galaxy Andromeda (previously known as Imperium Galactica III) on ice a while ago, the publisher now also dropped the development of the two sci-fi FPS titles Psychotoxic and Sabotain.

Unreal Tournament 2004 Pricing

This Atari press release (via Bluesnews) features some concrete information on their pricing plans for Unreal Tournament 2004. The suggested retail price is $39.99. There also will be a Special Edition available, which will feature 2 DVDs (instead of CDs like the standard version). The second DVD caontains roughly 150 hours of tutorial videos for mod makers and the like.
