While browsing around at Gametunnel I stumbled over this review of Platypus. It actually is an upgraded version of a game that came out a while ago, but still worth a look for action fans. Platypus, a side-scroller in the tradition of titles like Gradius, features claymation-style graphics. The extras are pretty much as you would expect them to be in this kind of game.

A Wednesday in Coburg

This morning a news report at MCV Germany revealed that the police is investigating a case of illegal use of software and had raided the offices of Farcry developer Crytek in Coburg, Germany as well as the private apartment of one of the company's founders after having received hints from a former employee. Apparently a number of unspecified objects was confiscated by the authorities.

The guys over at RPGCodex pointed out what could be described as 'Pac-Man Goes RPG': The Magic Land. Beneath the rather generic title happens to be a weird but accessible low-level RPG featuring a turn-based battle system. After a few minutes of walking around and acquiring a sword the main protagonist, Pea Guy, encounters the first character to join the party.

New Perspective on Thief: Deadly Shadows with Screenshots

Some new screens from Eidos are putting a new perspective on Thief 3. The latest Thief game will now be played from a 3rd person perspective as you can see in the screenshots below. The shots also show off some of the lighting and shadows present in the game already. The first shot showcases a guard holding a torch, it looks like his feet are casting shadows from the light of the torch.

Far Cry Demo Impressions

Ever since participating in the Far Cry multiplayer beta I've been desperate to see if the single player portion of the game could match the multiplayer's potential. I'm pleased to report that the single player demo has been released today and it locks Far Cry in as a must have for me. It's worth the time and effort to download the huge 496 meg demo.

Nintendo Fears Gamers Won't Get It: Probably Right

IGN is reporting that Nintendo's big unveiling at this year's E3 will be a freak of nature judging by the description offered o­n the site.The company's mystery machine is in fact a dual-screened portable game device that is entirely separate from both the GameCube and the Game Boy Advance. It will be marketed completely free of its sister hardware.

Picking the winner of the Super bowl? Easy. Guessing when Elysium will break down and buy a game he'll never play? Child's play. Predicting the shape of future consoles before this year's E3? Maybe a little tougher if you ask me, but that's all part of the fun.

Child Labour in the Gaming Industry?

It may sound more like a conspiracy theory than any concrete accusation, but I believe the gaming industry must be running a camp filled with US children (10-14 years old) somewhere in the South-American jungle, and sourcing them for new input.  It's the o­nly explanation for what often passes as content these days.

When the XBox first hit shelves many people worried that the built in ethernet would lead to the "patchware" syndrome that plauges PC gaming right now. Thankfully we've been spared this so far. However for all the worrying over patches we forgot cover the most important angle, our wallets. Microsoft will begin charging users for downloading the latest Links level over XBox Live.

Incoming! UFO: Alien Invasion

I saw at over at the GBase that the people behind the fan-made UFO: Alien Invasion have officially opened their website. You might want to take a look at this one if UFO: Aftermath hasn't fully satisfied your X-COM lust. According to the crew their project is not meant to be a remake of or a successor to the X-COM games, but is "heavily inspired" by the Microprose classic.
