Over the past month or so I've been collecting stories from developers and web writers about their experiences with telling "normal people" that they work on or write about games for a living. Mostly I've been digging for embarrassing stories about tar and feathering's but so far the replies have been distressingly feather free.
The stunt racing genre has been 'asleep' for quite a while. Twelve years after games such as Stunt Driver, 4D Sports Driving and Stunt Car Racer the niche is slowly becoming popular again. Infogrames released Stuntman not too long ago and Moon Byte and Bugbear are working on Crashday and Flat-Out respectively.
The horror... the horror...It's time for a reader-submitted review again! Davon Alder, an old friend of mine sat down to play Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. Atlus' Playstation 2 product is a turn-based strategy game in the tradition of titles such as Square's Final Fantasy Tactics and Blue Byte's Incubation.
Oh, yes.  It was payback time. When I haven't been jacked into a certain MMORPG beta which shall remain nameless my time has been spent blowing pirates out of the sky in Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge.
I saw over at Slashdot Games where there was an article about an attempt to create a canon for gaming. Somewhat like a literary canon, which is a collection of works that are essential to read for anyone serious about literature. Everything from Tic Tac Toe to Halo is included though there are a few omissions.

It's snowing outside today, gusting too. I'm a little sad about it but I also appreciate what it means to my inner-gamer. An excuse. Finally, an excellent reason to stay inside and play some games without feeling like you should be doing something else. With Amped 2, Call of Duty, Gladius, Rainbox Six 3 and more hitting shelves this week we're going to need all the help we can get!
Saw over at Adventure-Treff that iMuse Island posted a nice interview with Peter McConnell. The ex-LucasArts composer was involved in the creation of the soundtracks of classic titles such as Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island 2, Sam&Max, Full Throttle and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis among others.
Or so they think.

I'm beginning to reverse my position on patching console games. Up until recently, I've been adamantly opposed to consoles being allowed to patch their software. I've worried about the slippery slope between gameplay updates and releasing software that is just plain unfinished. Well, this week's bout with Viewtiful Joe has nearly changed my mind about the whole issue.

Viewtiful Joe

CUT! CUT! CUT!YouÂ're sitting in the theater with your best girl and watching a special re-release of the classic Star Wars trilogy when suddenly a giant Darth Vader reaches out of the movie screen and snatches your date away as she screams for rescue.
