Guild Wars 2 Catch All

This is probably a dumb question, with GW2 being a an MMO and all, but can the game be played with a controller?

Not as it's designed at the moment, it's a fairly standard third person MMO as far as controls go. I could see an adaptation being done in the future, as there's not a huge amount of skills you can access at any one time.

The only MMO's I've seen that you can use controllers are the Final Fantasy MMO's & DCU Online since they were designed for consoles. As far as I know GW 2 doesn't have that option.

Pet locations

The pink moa is near the level 6 waypoint in the asura newb area.(outside the Funhouse) I did not see it on the list when I searched online for pet locations.

Might have a touch of fever, too.

The movie Contagion is showing on HBO and other channels this month..Take advantage of the paranoia!!

You can play Tera with a controller too.

Oh my, you had better get home right away and tuck yourself into a nice comfy desk charir with a blanket wrapped around you and your mouse tied to your hand since you are clearly too weak to hold it.

Great *cough* *hack* *wheeze* idea...let me just *ahem* send this Out-of-Office email...click.

Energy suddenly back up a touch, mouse hand seems ok. The office chair DOES recline slightly. Yes, I think this will do.

It's also right in the starting area of Caledon Forest.

I also found the Piggy and Armor Fish in Lion's Arch. There is a whole underwater ship graveyard in Lion's arch!

Mr Sniffles likes to dig up items for me to consume when not bum-rusing Skelks.

That's pretty cool. I'll stick to keyboard & mouse myself but it's nice people come up with these work arounds.

Might have to hide this female human mesmer I just created from the wife. Yowza!

I set something similar up for my girlfriend, but I used a program called JoyToKey. It doesn't have the fancy image of the Xbox controller, but it is $25 cheaper (aka free). I had to play around with the dead-zone settings on the thumb sticks to prevent her from zig-zagging all the time, but now that I've got everything tweaked it's working really well.

Still not made up my mind on what class I love but been messing with Warrior, Mesmer, Ranger, and Thief.

What I am still trying to get my head around is how to use my Mesmer clones effectively.

I am loving my thief.
dual dagger and shortbow.

She is slicing up mobs 4 levels above with no help.

Playing around with different utilities but other than that it's a lot of fun. I usually use poison but just started trying the barbed whip (or whatever it's called) that grabs your foe and hauls them to you. Nice to grab a huge Ettin and then make pork chops of it.

the catacombs is a dungeon that will test your will to not kill your fellow man, and keep you moving. Lot of nice touches in there, and DAMN are those fights hard.

You know what would be nice? Since pvp up-scales your level, it would be awesome if dungeons did too. Not to level 80 but to a level appropriate to the given dungeon. Like say the dungeon is 20-25, it would up level you to 20. But if you are higher than 20 you get to keep your level unless you are over 25 in which you are down ranked to 25. Or maybe you need to be within 10 levels of the required level to enter but it will up-scale or down-scale accordingly.

story mode @ 30 and explorer (hardcore) @ 35

Don't dungeons scale down higher level players already? Everything else does.

re: dagger/dagger thief, I had a lot of fun with it as heartseeker does a lot of damage. However, IMO pistol whip (sword/pistol) is as devastating and its AoE.

OK, Correct thread with a valid builder.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fYEQ...

This is my proposed Thief build.

Dual dagger to get maximum damage while stealthed and flanking.
Added Signet Use to gain extra initiative to allow me to do a couple more special attacks like my Death Blossom.

Thoughts?

This build uses sword/pistol for Pistolwhip, but ads in the traits to maximize speedy death
http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fYEQ...

Combo is
7 - Devourer Venom to Immobilize
8 - HAste to speed up your attack speed
F1 - Steal to send you in from distance and do some damage (from trait)
3 - Pistol Whip spam for DEATH

I may try this with my double dagger build using Blossom. Blossom does extended bleed over 10 seconds for 1200+ damage but Pistol Whip does 700+ damage but also stuns.
Toss-up.
Got the idea from here

I edited my post, have a look at the other build i put up.

Can someone give me a few pointers?

I've got my human engineer up to 7, my norn guardian up to 21, and my sylvari mesmer up to 11, and I'm finding it pretty tough going making progress with that mesmer. I'm not sure if that's down to a lack of DEs going on, the sylvari 1-15 zone being a bit scarce on stuff to do, mesmer being a bit weak (being a mind games class), or how I play the mesmer. At my low level I'm still doing a lot of skill spamming and running around like a headless chicken, although it's coming together slowly, I just got a greatsword and that seems to work better for me.

Can someone post an example play style they use, and why they do it so I can take notes?

In beta I really wanted to like the greatsword mesmer but I found I liked the scepter/pistol better. I think ran backs me up in this.

I opened with skill 4 that summons a pistol firing clone. I believe it has a triple shot attack in its rotation. Then I use my primary attack (third attack summons a ranged clone) and splice in the 5th attack should I need some CC or to tag some adds. I don't remember the 3rd attack but I think it did pretty good damage but was channeled so if you have enough clones out, you can use it to kill faster. Also, I pretty much did not wait too long to shred the clones. If you use the damage shred at around 1/3 hp you will nearly finish off the monster.

Looks like I am going to have to do some experimentation when I get home. I think my rotation was: 4 (5) 1 1 1 1 1 1 (3) (5) shred

Skills in parenthesis are optional. Sometimes I'll shred early to finish off the weak foes if I'm surrounded and in trouble.

@groan - that video seems like they tweaked pistol whip to the nth degree. In regular usage it isn't that godly but that video gives you an idea of how fun it is. I think there is a trait that adds poison to steal. I can verify that heartseeker is very fun too. The fact that I don't recall death blossom says to me there is something awkward about it or I just wasn't using it right. Or may have even over looked it since I was spamming heartseeker.

Those should be in the OP, not spoilered.

Tips:

To get to the Mists for pvp or to try out other starter zones, hit H then click on the crossed swords icon on the left.

As soon as you hit say level 3, go to your home city and buy a few alternative weapons for your class. Each weapon set is almost a whole new class so try them all.

Don't be afraid to bust the tank/ranged archetypes. Bow/rifle warriors, greatsword rangers, dagger elementalists, and scepter guardians are extremely fun.

Many times killing non quest monsters in quest areas will give you quest credit even if not listed in the tasks.

Participate in every event you come across. With he rapid pulls and lots of allies dps, they are great ways to skill up alternate weapons.

Revive every NPC and for that matter PC you come across. Rangers will really appreciate you helping them revive their pets too.

Holding Ctrl will highlight, within a reasonable range, every hostile and neutral NPC, as well as critters and (most importantly) interactive objects (resource nodes, quest objects). Holding Alt will highlight friendly NPCs.

With the game officially opening up today and some new folks hopefully joining us, here are a few general tips that we've been sharing on guild chat since Friday. Please everyone chip in. Spoiler'd, just in case...

  • You can move while casting or using skills. This is critically important, because you can and should physically dodge out of the way of melee and ranged attacks.
  • You can access your bank from any crafting table.
  • There is a special tab in your bank (also accessible from any crafting table) which stores all of your collectable/gathered items (wood, ore, cloth, etc).
  • If you click the "gear" icon on your Inventory panel, the first menu option that shows up is "Deposit all Collectables". This will instantly send all crafting items directly to that special Collectables bank tab, no matter where in the game you are.
  • Gathering doesn't use up one of your 2 allotted crafting disciplines. Therefore, I strongly suggest that everyone carry the three gathering tools (scythe, axe, and pick), gather every node you come across, and use the "Deposit all Collectables" button whenever your bag fills up... even if you have no intention initially of doing any crafting.
  • Salvaging is a great way of getting some of the harder-to-find crafting materials, like cloth and leather.
  • Merchants have a "Sell Junk" button. While this has no effect on your personal naughty bits, every grey-colored "Trophy" item in your inventory will be automatically sold. If you still have "Trophy" items in your bag after this is done, then those are either from an Event that you participated in (but forgot to turn in), or are used at the Mystic Forge in Lion's Arch.
  • If you click the triangle at the top of the Chat window, you can disable "/map", which reduces 99% of the pub chatter. Or, if you click the plus, you can create a new tab just for /guild, /whisper, /party, and /say (or whatever combination you prefer).
You can access your bank from any crafting table.

WHAT?! Really?
**faints**

Heh, yeah. That's what I think... but didn't want to offend anyone with "accidental" protips on launch day.

  • Mobs do not "tap". If you see someone fighting a creature -- GO HELP! You'll get XP for killing the creature, and a good chance of getting loot.
  • Gathering nodes do not "tap". Everyone can gather from every node. I don't understand how a tiny little sapling can satisfy the axes of thousands of burly lumberjacks in a row... but hey, the game's ok with it, so I am too.
  • While looking at the full-screen Map, shift+mousewheel up and down scrolls among the various layers on the map.

Only thing I can add is that you can sell stuff to any "heart" vendor and if I'm not mistaken, karma vendors as well (show up purple on the map). No need to look for the coin icon vendors which are referred to as merchants.

  • I also highly recommend you buy all three gathering tools (harvesting sickle, logging axe, mining pick) as soon as possible in the game. The sooner you start harvesting, the more XP you're going to get overall, as well as more materials you'll have for crafting, which in turn gives good XP.

While you can only have two active crafting skill, you can learn all of them on a single character. Switching between crafting skills costs a small amount of money (10 copper per level, so a max of 40 silver if you're at 400 for a crafting skill), so if you want to put all your gathered materials to use, you may want to try leveling more than just 2 crafting skills.
