The PS3 version lost two points for framerate issues.

...and I still give them both -1 for making her look like a librarian.

Come on, librarians are "hawt".

I have the demo sitting on my system, but haven't played it yet. This convinces me that I should.

You seriously need help then

Okay, how did this fly completely under my radar? This is right up my alley. Yet another thing to spend money on this winter...

I agree. Love me some librarians. Seriously looking forward to this.

Quite likely a rental at best for me - I'm not sure it'll get that though. It will probably ruin the whole librarian thing for me...

For some reason when I heard about the 40/40, I immediately thought that it was a reaction against Japanese devs talking about how their corner of the industry is falling behind.

I am not discounting the possibility that Bayonetta is straight-up badass; it just struck me as strange that a seemingly straightforward brawler could be that much of a heavyweight.

Her clothes turn into a smoke monster.

I played the import demo last week. It's....ok. Think Devil May Cry only more frantic and more sh*t on the screen. Plus the story was really weird.

Famitsu 40/40 isn't very meaningful anymore.

The magazine started in 1986, didn't award its first 40/40 until 1998... and has awarded six (of its twelve all-time 40/40 scores) in the past two years alone.

Any reputation Famitsu had of being a "tough reviewer" is long down the toilet. Score inflation is in full effect.

Plus, they like all those damn gaudy JRPGs, but that's just a personal note of hate.

It's not her clothes I have a problem with. In fact, everything from the neck down is fine. It's the emo glasses and beehive hair. If you guys have a thing for grandmas that's cool, that's your deal. Not judging you here.

It's when that beehive hair comes down that it becomes bizness time.

Saw the quicklook on giantbomb. Meh. Looks like a more frenetic God of War...for perverts.

Crap. And here I was just dissing Famitsu and their tastes. Maybe this new Famitsu is for me.

I thought that was Dante's Inferno's trademarked tagline.

I think Bullion Cube works in their PR department. He makes a very compelling case to purchase it.

This looks like everything I'd expect from the minds behind God Hand.

If the story and combat is anything as crazy as that, we're in for a treat.

Definitely a rental for me. Not because I don't think it'll be good, but because I've yet to replay any game like this (God of War, Devil May Cry), so if I'm likely to only play it once, I'll save the extra $50.

How have I not seen this game in action before this thread? Argh, another game to buy.

I played and liked Onechanbara. I played and really enjoyed WET... and this game is actually reviewed with a great score. Hmm..

Regarding Famitsu scores and Legion's post: Here's a nice article Chris Kohler wrote in August. It's still politely phrased, but spot on nevertheless.

However, when viewed through the lens of what we know about the Japanese magazine business, and scores in particular, it’s hard to believe that Famitsu’s shift was due purely to an independent editorial desire to use the whole range of scores.

Since I have absolutely no knowledge of Famitsu’s policy, I could not say for sure as to why this is happening now. But it is certainly true that the increase in 10 scores has been correlated with the decline in Japan’s game market. Neither game hardware nor software has been selling well. It all seems a bit too perfect that just as game sales drop off, games suddenly get rated higher. Perfect Famitsu scores get a lot of attention, which can only translate into longer lines on release day.

Considering the bad buzz for the PS3 I've heard (practically unplayable), i can live with a 38/40

Sega is giving away early access to the demo for 40,000 people on their site for the 360 version. Requires Sega Pass registration though.

What kind of PR stunt is that? If the demo is ready, the demo is ready. Why withhold it from anyone?

Why don't you ask Valve? :p

It takes a special talent to make a game practically unplayable when you have a mode that reduces gameplay down to pushing ONE button over and over. Maybe they should put in a still easier mode that is actually pong.

I dunno, Lobster. I have yet to meet a librarian that can spit a black snake the size of an apartment building out her ass.

Your social circle may be less mainstream than most, however.

You give us such fertile ground. I could not possibly pick just one part to mock, as that would mean I'd have to exclude so many others.

Are those rings she's collecting? Is this the real badass version of Sonic everyone keeps talking about? This is a Sega game, right?

Nope, this is the badass female version of Sonic from a SEGA game:

Maybe the video is just a little too small to make out, but it really looks like she keeps punching bad guys -- with guns. That struck me as funny.
