Operation Flashpoint - Dragon Rising

Pages

For all the ARMA2 players - what do you think of the upcoming OF-DR.

I think it is showing a lot of polish and I am pretty excited about it. My one concern is that it is going to be too arcade-y. I really like the mechanics and feel of ARMA2, but the presentation and general stability is pretty rough (patch 1.04 just got released and it seems to have made some improvements).

I'm going to be picking this up for PC when it is released.

thoughts?

I've got this pre-ordered for the 360, so I am hoping a few folks go that route.

It's on my 360 list as well, hoping for a demo before purchase if possible.

I will get this on the PC for sure. Just not sold on it yet. I am taking a wait and see, Arma II really is not lacking anything for me right now in terms of gameplay.

Definitely PC for me. I cant wait to play some co op with this. ARMA II died a pretty fast community death.

It looks more arcade-like than ARMA2, so I'm hoping it doesn't set off all the "I don't have time for this anymore" alarms in my brain like ARMA2 did. I loved the original Flashpoint, but I had more free time on my hands back then to go crawling through virtual forests and snipe at passing jeeps over and over until I got it right.

Considering i'm still enjoying ArmA 2 (in small servings), this may be a 360 rental for me.

If I promise to check in my gamer card, would someone be willing to give me a quick rundown of what Operation Flashpoint is? I understand that it's an FPS, but what kind of FPS? Describe a game to me.

It's going to be PC for me too. While I loved the original ArmA, the sequel just did not click with me. Hopefully Operation Flashpoint 2 can mix the right blend of realism and arcade shooter gameplay.

The Operation Flashpoint devs have discussed a hardcore mode that they've included. Sounds like they are giving players a lot of options for how they want to experience the game.

Though Arma is inspired by the original Operation Flashpoint and you can see it in their tech, this is by the original dev team. I doubt this is going to be arcadey, the original Operation Flashpoint made its way onto the first xbox without compromising its sim-like nature, though I think the graphics groaned a bit.

Actually, it's the other way around. Arma/Arma II was made by the same people who made the original Operation Flashpoint, and this sequel is by a completely different developer altogether.

What? Isn't today opposite day? Ok, ok I had it backwards and now my mistake is now captured for all eternity in a quote, damnit.

Oh well. I am mainly nterested in this one because of the the online co-op within in the open world battlefield. That sounds like it could be a blast.

Competitive Multiplayer Video

I'm onboard for the PC version. Any idea what the recommend specs are?

Ah. Thanks. I think I'll pass, then.

OF2 is GOLD!

Hitting the shelves Oct. 6th and another video.

Oh God, please don't suck!

Please don't suck! I really enjoyed Arma II, but I'd love to see something a bit more approachable and polished.

QFT. I may be opting in on this one if early word of mouth is good.

I'm actually not typical into sim-style shooters, but I've been following this game for a while and I'm actually very curious about it. In particular, the preview in Edge last month made it sound like just the kind of game for someone who may be used to more mainstream tactical stuff like Splinter Cell or Rainbow Six Vegas and wanted to take the next step but found the huge chasm between it and the hardcore titles too daunting to bother. (Incidentally, this seems to be a problem with most genres these days.) For instance, the difficulty settings apparently do almost nothing regarding your health or enemy A.I. Instead it determined how much of a HUD is provided. Almost like the varying scales of in-game guides available to you in some racing games like Forza.

I am definitely getting this on 360, possibly on PC as well if it's really good.

I need at least a passable military shooter to play on 360 with some console buddies, so that's why I'm definitely getting it on 360. The bar it needs to clear to fill that need isn't super high.

If it's awesome enough to chop away a share of my online PC shooter time away from the likes of TF2 and L4D (and soon L4D2!), then I'll grab on PC as well.

OK, I'm a sucker I will be picking this up quickly, maybe not day one, due to a fear of an unaproving look from the wife. But very close to day one.

Has anyone seen info on how the co-op or mp modes will work (on the 360)?

I'd love to see co-op with more than 4 players - preferably up to 8 or 12. Also some sort of MP matchmaking would be nice.

I've been waiting for a Joint Ops replacement for almost 6 years now. I'm really really hoping the wait is over.

I do think I caught a glimpse of an Air Swampy flight in that last video!

From what the trailers have shown, the co-op mode will be up to four players doing the campaign missions. The other multiplayer options include 4v4 tdm with each human player controlling a squad, and an attack/defend style mode with objectives.

Or at least, that's what I remember. School is blocking most of the game sites, so I haven't been able to check again.

I've also seen mention of DLC being lined up for the game after release, but I wonder if/how it will be distributed on the PC version.

Crikey. I had a no-buy in effect for October to balance the budget a bit, but this might just tempt me...

Hope this is on Steam - if not I think I will go for the xbox version

I would love a steam version too, but with the game coming out next Tuesday, I doubt Codemasters would make a surprise release on launch day...unless they do. And then I'll be sad that I bought a retail copy.

This was completely under my radar, but once again GWJerdom has proven to be an enabler par excellence and now I'm getting quite excited for it. I will be getting it on the pc, as I am Xboxless, and I'm sure my preference for the pc as a gaming platform does not need to be re-stated!
