Timothy Burke brought back the HEYDARNOLD out indefinitely generator.
It's amazing that this came up and now he's playing like the Jets' Sam Darnold.
This is like watching a stock crater in real time.
How much money has Darnold cost himself this last week?

The Vikings are always the Vikings.
So we're getting roughly one good game out of an entire weekend of playoff football, huh?
Daniel Jones?
No? Ok.
We moved here when my son was three years old, and, because of that, he's spurned the Bucs, and is very much a fan of local sports, particularly the Vikings. I warned him, I tried.
He turned his Xbox on at halftime, saw the notification pop up. I tried, young man, I really tried.
How do you win 14 games and look like dog shit 2 weeks in a row?
Fraud alert fo sho
Does Darnold know he's not wearing the red jersey and at some point actually does have to get rid of the ball?

Same way the Packers and Lions racked up Ws.
AFC South 9-0 padding.
Apparently the NFC West also... 8-1 with the only L Rams vs Vikings.

Well the NFL certainly made more money expanding the Wild Card round but at the price of further diluting the product on the field.
Everything was fine at a 16 game season (well minus the Thursday night games) and 2 wild card teams but capitalism.
is Stefon Diggs done? ACL tear in week 8 puts him out until at least the start of the 2025 regular season. He is UFA now and no one is signing him while recovering. at 31, I think he has gas in the tank, but the timing really f*cked him.
Does he take a year off and come back at 32 as a WR3? or does he go into broadcasting?

Yeah.
The seeds have been sown. I know the Boomer class is still married to football and there are plenty of other diehards that will die on Mount Football as the sole place for their entertainment but the golden goose has been slaughtered. It will take awhile (years) to show up in the metrics but we're on a downward path.
CTE, reduction in youth participation, NIL, fracturing of the feeder system (NCAA), too many teams/not enough good QBs, oversaturation, gambling, too many other entertainment options.
It takes good stewardship to preserve and protect an institution and this generation of Goodells and billionaires ain't got it.
Frankly, the Saturday games don't feel super compelling but hopefully I'm proven wrong. A couple of stupid decisions by the Lions could make for an interesting game. I think the Chiefs roll. I'm not sure how much of a real difference this could make, but it feels shitty to give a shorter rest to the teams that need to go against a team coming off a bye. There's no need to make the advantage of the bye any bigger.
The Sunday games look very exciting, though.
Hmm. A relatively obscure stat that might be the difference.
The Bills have the sixth highest missed tackle rate in the NFL.
The Ravens have the third lowest.
Considering how much both teams rely on the run to set up the pass, this is January football outdoors, and.... Derrick Freaking Henry, I feel these stats have a nontrivial possibility of having an impact on the outcome.
Chiefs
Lions
Eagles
Ravens
I'm boring. Hopefully some of those are games are entertaining though.
As bad as the Eagles looked against the Packers I think it's classic 1 team coming off an ugly win vs team that looked amazing.
Maybe Lions game will seem closer than the spread but Lions still even cover. Not sure the Lions d is back vs they played Darnold.
Commanders could go on long time eating drives to shorten the amount of possessions. Lions wouldn't do themselves favors if they score in 2m and the Commanders then score on a 6-8m drive.
Ravens Bills the AFC title game everyone actually wanted outside of KC. Please just be the team who can beat KC.
Counterargument: Dak Prescott's bank account.
13 teams have .500 or better playoff records: ... and Jaguars.
Win a bunch of postseason games in the '90s and then never make the playoffs again. Get your franchise an all-time winning postseason record with this one trick!
Welp, at least we got one compelling game (out of six). Quantity doesn't always translate into quality, gentlemen.
Moving on to the ...
DIVISIONAL ROUND!
(aka the BEST WEEKEND OF FOOTBALL)Saturday
Texans at Chiefs, 430p (ABC / ESPN)
Commanders at Lions, 8p (Fox)
Sunday
Rams at Eagles, 3p (NBC)
Ravens at Bills, 630p (CBS)
My predictions
Chiefs 8, Commanders 4 (Scorigami!)
Lions 83, Commanders 55
Eagles 17, Rams 17
Ravens + Bills = EPIC
... I'll be thrilled for the winner and profoundly bummed for the losing team
Best weekend in sports.
Here's a sad-ish stat: With last night's loss, the Vikings now have more playoff losses (32) than any other team in NFL history.
Vikings: 32
Cowboys: 31
Steelers: 29
Rams: 28
Packers: 2713 teams have .500 or better playoff records: Patriots, Niners, Ravens, Packers, Steelers, Raiders, Commanders, Cowboys, Broncos, Chiefs, Panthers (!!), Eagles and Jaguars.
Counterargument: to rack up playoff losses, first you have to make the playoffs.
That said, in the case of the Vikings, it is sad that they have the most playoff losses and no Super Bowls. That's what separates them from that bunch.
I think the Chiefs roll.
Why? 12 of their 15 wins were one possession games. They won by 10, 13, and 19 the others. So only 1 3 score "blowout" win.
They might win but it's almost guaranteed to be close.
I've had KC as one-and-done in the playoffs in my mind for awhile, but they match up really well against the Texans. I have hope but now I think they lose in the AFC championship game.

By roll, I wasn't necessarily saying they'd win by 30, but definitely by more than one possession. That said, I hope you're right! But for me, it's one of those games where experience and home field are going to be a factor in favor of the Chiefs. And I'm aware it's a pure hunch, not the result of a statistical analysis.
KC ended the season 8th in DVOA. HOU was 16th.
Playing at home, rested, good matchups, KC will win comfortably.
And then get crushed by the other weekend winner (I hope).
Diontae Johnson continues his career self immolation tour
Yeah, I'm having a hard time seeing this weekend being anything more than a truncated version of the last one. A single watchable game surrounded by blowouts.
We just did Ravens Bills in Sept and it was 35-10 and honestly not even that close. I hope that isn't the competitive game someone is counting on?
