This is an absolute gem that I stumbled across in the Steam discovery queue. It's a single-hero, single-line, turn-based positioning combat game probably inspired by Darkest Dungeon, where each run you start with 2 attacks and randomly add more attacks and buff your existing attacks. There's zero filler, just glorious combat.
It is extraordinarily respectful of your time. It's easy to jump in and out of even if you only have a few minutes, it's a cozywarm Steam Deck experience on the couch, and it's delightfully addictive.
Not since FTL have I had such a "where the hell did this game come from" experience, and this is better.
Great game!

I wholeheartedly second everything Crinkle said. This is a gem, y'all.
It's a deckbuilder for people that don't like deckbuilders (you might add 4-5 tiles at most to your deck over the course of a run), and a tactics game for people who find tactics games too slow and tedious. If you like deckbuilders AND tactics games, this is no-brainer, go add it to your wishlist immediately.
One thing I'll note from Crinkle's writeup there is that I don't really get the comparison to Darkest Dungeon - there's no management of your stable of heroes, no struggling against the inevitable entropy of hero degradation, and no bleak narrative tones. It's a much snappier, more tactically interesting game, IMO.
Big shout out to the meta-progression too: not only unlocking new "cards" for your deck and new characters with different movesets (4 in total), but opening progressively harder runs following each successful run with a given character).
And another big shout out for how gently the game encourages you to experiment with different playstyles, from achievements for finishing runs in specific ways (e.g. never turn around, never take a new tile, using only fast-refresh tiles, and another for only using slow-refresh tiles), to the 5 "stamps" that each character can be awarded at the end of the run (e.g. getting a lot of combo-kills, finishing a run in < 30mins etc.)
You've never known true joy until you've shaken a lich stick at someone.
The comparison is just the combat style...takes place on a single line where exact distances and facing matters, shoving/swapping occurs, etc. I loved the combat part of Darkest Dungeon but really didn't like all the other management stuff, so this game is perfect as it's nothing but combat.
Steam page has a trailer video, but more importantly, a DEMO!

Have you had a bash at Circus Electrique? It is very much a B-tier rip-off of Darkest Dungeon, but with a bit less of a focus the management. Was a freebie on Epic a while back, so may be sitting there in your Epic library already, and worth a go if you like that vibe.

Dang, missed that one. Does indeed look like it's worth a bash at the price of free.
I have so many hours in this game. Will have even more now that I have a steam deck and long commute by train.
I hope they make a mobile version
