Days Getting Shorter, Pile Getting Taller - Pile of Shame September 2024

Welcome to Fall?!? Change is in the air, but one thing remains the same... My incredible ability to add games to an already enormous backlog.

Some housekeeping notes.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

If you're interested, trueheart78, has the 12 month 2024 pile plan thread over here.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Picks of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the spreadsheet I setup.

This month's Pick of the Pile is

Octopath Traveler 2

"The story takes place in Solistia, a land comprising an eastern and western continent divided by the sea. It is a bustling era, wherein large vessels navigate busy sea routes and the power of steam gives birth to new technologies. Some people thrill to glamorous stars of the stage and industry, while others are brought to tears by war, plague, and poverty. In this faraway realm, eight travelers hailing from different regions venture forth for their own reasons. Step into their shoes and explore the land as you see fit." (Official Site)

Once again, I apologize for the delay. Had a change of employment at the end of last week and the week leading up to it had me a little checked out, to say the least. It was planned, the office was closing, but I was not interested in relocating.

Mark me down for
Ender Lilies (PC / Multi) and mark it complete. Finished it last week.

I have moved on to Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 1 (PC/Multi). When I first played it about 5 years ago I was tired and only got 40 minutes in and never went back. I started this up again a few days ago and got 2 hours and am ready to give this a proper go.

Thanks for running these, Hemi!

This month I've got Octopath Traveler 2 (Multi) on my plate. Got a couple of other games I want to get back to, but that's my main focus and will probably take most of my game time this month.

FF7 Rebirth being such a big game and time sink means Dragon's Dogma 2 unfortunately made it to the pile, but it hopefully will not remain there long...

Literally same, I thought I could finish FF7R before DD2. If only i'd known...

I'll be carring over one game and adding one.

Athenian Rhapsody: Thunder Goober's Personality Dungeon (PC)
Octopath Traveler II (Multi)

That was my exact thought too. Figured it would be a brisk 40ish hour game like Remake, nicely ending right before DD2, only to take all the way to the start of June to finish instead.

Setting the bar low since I am preparing for a trip immediately after coming back from a trip. I am going to declare The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (Multi) (3DS) in anticipation of Echos of Wisdom coming out at the end of the month.

School/work is crazy so focusing on just a handful of games this month:

Age of Wonders 4
World of Warcraft: Dragonflight
Dragon Age Inquisition

Since I did not declare it for this month (until now), I obviously finally finished Dead Space 2 (PS3/multi). Pretty good, once I finally plowed through the remaining 2/3 in the last three weeks and stopped getting distracted.

I did have a stupid audio bug that made much of the dialog and all audio logs too quiet to hear. Luckily there are subtitles. Also really wish I had played this with mouse aiming rather than a controller - the majority of my deaths can be blamed on the thumb stick's imprecise aiming.

DS2 has some intense scenes - from the opening escape during the outbreak through your "stalker" near the end. Quite a bit of it will stick with me.

Octopath Traveler II. Just beat the big bad boss. There's some post-game story stuff, apparently. This I will finish at my leisure as it is not going to be anywhere near as tough as the secret boss. So. All done, I guess?

And down goes Athenian Rhapsody: Thunder Goober's Personality Dungeon. Don't think I'll add another pick this month, so that's a clean bill for the time being.

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 1 (PC/Multi) is down. It was fun but despite what people say about be more aggressive and all, sometimes the only way I survived was hiding behind cover / working defensively.

Also, mentioned in my previous post, but maybe it was confused, but I finished Ender Lilies, too.

Although I played 28 hours of it, I did not finish Spiritfarer. I feel like the rest should wrap up in 10-ish hours, as I've got production of most materials going pretty well, several stories have wrapped up, and my ship is almost completely upgraded. In short, please carry it over
