Astro Bot PS5 Catch All

Finally after 2018's VR Only masterpiece that was Astro Bot Rescue Mission & the delightful taster pack in Astro's Playroom we have the fully fledged Astro Bot coming to PS5 tomorrow.

After Team Asobi delivered two creative powerhouses in their last two Astro games people have been pining for a full AAA experience that's not tied to VR & is a lot bigger than 2020's Playroom.

It's here & the reviews are in, they are fantastic! I'm thrilled, I'm away on holiday for 5 days so I'm actually devastated I can't play it at midnight tonight!

I can't wait to hear everybody's thoughts!

Astro Bot on PS5 - Virtually Flawless - Digital Foundry Tech Review

I've seen multiple people say it's better than Mario Odyssey. In a way, it's crazy to think a non-Nintendo platformer could even be in that conversation, but I knew this team was onto something special after just an hour in Astrobot Rescue Mission VR.

Can't wait to dive in this weekend!

Poking my head into the thread. I’m feeling uplifted by the games success and enjoying all the enthusiastic chat about the game.

Played a bit tonight after it unlocked. Very, very pleasant.

90 minutes just flew by. It is a delight!

If you have PlayStation nostalgia from the last 30 years, then it will hit even harder!

My copy arrived this morning, so I know what I'm doing as soon as work ends. LFG!!

I had originally taken today off to spend with my wife but she's sick so I've been playing Astro Bot. I've seen around 10 levels and every single level has unique mechanics and theme. It's such a joy of a game and every level is memorable.

I just finished up the first boss. So far, this is everything I was hoping it would be.

Everytime I play one of these Astrobot games, I end up humming the tunes for days after playing. Some of the music here is already stuck in my head as I'm typing this

After playing the first level, I can safely say this is so far exactly what I wanted out of this game.

The ice skating is super cool.

Couldn’t resist any longer downloading now.

I've rescued over 100 bots now. Fun stuff.

This game is an absolute gem! And I feel like "this is Sony's Mario" is a spot-on comparison. Some of the challenge levels feel like they could be straight out of a 3D Super Mario title.

I'm in the 2nd major area. The boss of the 1st was amazing, and I loved the bonus level that unlocked and the transformation that Astro went through for that level. So creative and so much fun.

I'm at nearly 150 rescued, I missed the portals and didn't find any until finishing the third boss. Before advancing further I'm going back and unlocking those hidden levels.

Do any of you guys know how to get the trophy for taking a photo at a photo spot? I feel like I've done this in several locations -- putting Astro behind the cutout, using the screenshot feature -- but it's never popped. At first I didn't even realize there was a trophy associated with it, I was just doing it for fun. But I feel like there must be something I'm missing.

There is something that unlocks later that will allow you to get that trophy.

Fantastic! I just finished Bot of War and am having a great time. That was such a creative level, and I loved the way Odin's Ravens were factored in. I ended up missing one so I need to go back and find it ...

Yeah! That was a fun one.

Finally got to play an hour or so after being away on holiday. What a true delight, I don't think there's any game that comes close to the feel of walking around & interacting with an environment & it's inhabitants.

The use of the dual sense is astounding, there are times you wonder how they do their magic of making you feel exactly what your doing - walking through grass, swimming underwater, scraping your hand across concrete blocks. One that blew my mind right at the start was after the PS5 ship crashes on the planet, Astro plucks his head out of the sand & his screen wasn't properly coming on, which they represent by weak pulses of electricity (like it's struggling to come on), so damn cool - it makes other games feel like they just have window dressing.

Cannot wait to play more.

Yeah, this game should definitely be required playing for anyone using the dual sense's haptic function. Everything just makes sense and feels so natural, and it really adds to the immersion. I also think a huge part of it is the sound design, with a lot of the audio coming through the controller. Like the sense of being on ice is communicated not just through the little rumbles and pulses, but little skating sounds from the controller -- and the fact that it's coming from that speaker makes it so much more present.

I do wish there was an option to lower the controller volume a little bit, though. Maybe I could find it in the system if I poked around. If I'm playing on the couch next to my wife, the chirping is definitely so loud and so constant that she can't focus on anything else.

Also, found Joker this morning! Love that he was in a casino level where the whole theme is using your powers to cheat at slots.

Picked this up with some gift cards I had. My girls love Astro and they will be pleasantly surprised.

Go to the Home screen
Select Settings
Select Accessories
Select Controller (General)
Adjust the Volume (Speaker for Controller)

Trunk of Funk level can go f*ck itself and if more levels are like this I will be done.

I loath levels with lots of timing fails. Get goo, jump, place goo, land on it, wait for next spot to flip around, quickly jump, get goo before it flips again, jump off make new goo platform, hop again, etc.

The stuff about 4 minutes in is where I fall apart for the timing. But it is the jumps at 7 minutes that caused me to just put the game aside for the night. Hated it just absolutely hated it.

Hm. I feel you on the rage for what feel like bad timing issues and such on platforming challenges. Unfortunately, there are definitely more of these kinds of things in upcoming levels. The good news is that the check-pointing is reasonably generous.

For me, I struggle more with the controller tilt. I tend to lay down while I'm playing, and the controller sits at an angle. This seems to cause some of the tilt to aim sections to be backwards? It's weird.

I've found the game to be a real joy to play. Moreso than any recent Mario game!

I actually found that Trunk Of Funk level pretty easy, maybe because I'm used to really hard platformers like Celeste, Super Meat Boy, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (K levels) etc. I think it's very generous with the timing & distance the platforms are at from each other. Don't forget a full tank of goo can pretty much get you 3 platforms before having to be refilled so even if you need to use an extra one you should be covered.

I'm having the same issue with the controller tilting Tyrian, I'm lying down on the sofa while playing & it's not as responsive because of the angle I'm at.

I finished one of the special PlayStation themed levels earlier, it was really well done. I also think the bosses are a ton of fun even though their all very easy to beat. It's so satisfying taking chunks of their armor or smashing in their teeth before bonking them on the head. The phases are really creative too.

Well I have found the first few levels just delightful this evening. The o my thing I found myself fighting was my usual completionist leanings.

Also I don’t go in for collecting real life models or anything however if someone wants to make

Spoiler:

a real life bloodborne astro bot as found in here m

then TAKE MY MONEY.

I rolled credits last night and I'm working on collecting the remaining bots.

Some of the challenge levels are wicked.

In my opinion, this is the best platformer since Mario Odyssey.

Trunk of Funk clicked with me just fine for whatever reason. I enjoyed it.

World 2 down! This game continues to be an absolute joy. The Playstation themed level at the end was so well done.

I have been trying not to rush it, since platformers this good are a rarity, but I might just blitz through the rest of it this weekend. I'm starting to see some spoiler stuff floating around, and I don't want to risk ruining any of the cool surprises.
