Deadlock - Valve's Dota-like third-person shooter

Since Valve has officially announced the game now, I figure I'd make a thread for it instead of clogging up the TF2 thread.

Access is still through invites. You just need somebody on your friend's list to invite you to get the game. Just post a link to your Steam profile if you want access and don't have anybody on your friend's list with it.

Super useful Steam page.

The check marks above minions after you kill them are really something, aren't they.

This is my first MOBA and I'm really enjoying it. Playing on the GWJ Discord fairly frequently if anyone wants to group up.

Played one round and bounced off of it.

I've been playing some bot games to familiarize myself with some of the heroes and get a feel for the map (which is crazy complex). It seems to be hardcoded to put you in a lane against Infernus. Very annoying.

It's not really my kind of game but I've had fun playing it a few times. I sent out invites to everyone on my friend's list who had wishlisted it and didn't already have access.

Would anyone like to be friends?

Wasn't there a strategy game from the 90s or early 2000s called Deadlock??

Send me a Steam friend invite, there's a link in my signature below.

I'd be interesting in checking it out.

I sent an invite, it can take a while to show up.

Awesome, thanks! Got it earlier today.

I like this so far.

I like the MOBA format but there's usually so little experimentation in the genre, there's enough twists here to make things interesting, especially the fact that it's also got plenty of shooter DNA mixed in. Ever since the Paragon days I was hoping there'd be more MOBAs that'd ditch some or all of the RTS baggage, but they've been few and far between, and either never get much of a player base, or are Smite, and I just can't with Smite.

I was enjoying the lack of an established dogmatic meta as a result of all the secrecy, I guess that's gone now, but it'll still take a while for the meta to truly calcify. I'll enjoy that while it lasts!

would love to try this out

If anyone has an invite, I would be VERY appreciative!

Send me Steam friend invites and I'll get you added - you have to be Steam friends to invite. My Steam profile is in my signature.

I think I had a bit of a revelation playing this, and realising I'm having fun in the laning phase: confirming last hits - often with melee attacks if safe to do so, denying where possible, trying to play efficiently.

It made me realise I've never actually enjoyed the laning phase in other MOBAs, it's the chore you have to do to get to the fun bits later, but here it's interactive and intuitive enough that it's actually engaging. Good stuff.

The intuitive thing is key as well, I've always hated denying as a mechanic because it feels so counter intuitive, literally killing your own little guys. Make it so you're reclaiming their little soul though and apparently that's enough justification for my brain to accept it, and suddenly it's a fun mechanic. The Valve thoughtfulness is really on show here.

Sent!

I'd be interested in an invite. Steam name is in profile. After a little practice, I'd be down for trying to group up too.

Friend invite sent! would love an invite to Deadlock, might be something i could get into with my two teenagers.

Got the invite and sent you an invite, should get it in the near future!

Got my invite, thanks! Hoping to fire this up this weekend to give it a try.

Just sent a friend invite - definitely interested in checking Deadlock out if there are still invitations to be had!

Many thanks! Watching day 9’s video raving about this game while I wait for it to install!

Thank you for the invite! I'll be firing it up as soon as the kiddos go down (and assuming I pull myself away from slaying xenos for the emperor in Space Marine 2).

I'd also interested in giving this a shot, as a former Dota boy.

Thanks for the invite mrwynd! Came down with something over the weekend, but looking forward to diving in soon.
