00:39:38 Multimedia Influences on Gaming

Another topic discussion that went into interesting places, well done.

For me, the obvious multimedia influence on gaming is podcasts and gaming. I love history podcasts, and they always make me want to start up a game like Civ or Old World. Strangely, as I have commented before on other threads, this does not extend to Paradox games like Crusader Kings or Europa Universalis. A big reason I enjoy Assassin's Creed is not so much the open world busywork but the 'historical tourism' of a time and place. I know they're not 1:1 representations, but they're something. Eg with Valhalla, it clicked with me that Vikings could use England's extensive river network to get around the middle of England, beyond just doing coastal raids.

Also, good sci fi like Star Trek or The Expanse makes me want to play Mass Effect. Rewatching Band of Brothers recently made me want to play a WW2 Call of Duty. Monkey see, monkey do!
