I will check it out. Most comparisons are with Uncharted which I love so that should be great
Yeah, I'm in!
Okay. That shooting looks much more like The Division. Which is a very good thing
The environments look great which is what I would expect from The Division devs.
Is the main character fixed? Or is there a character creator?

Fixed character
I'm one of the few people on Earth who havent watched any Star Wars films or shows and I'm interested. It looks fun.

You are of a unique race. There must be more of your kind out there.
It seems to be a perfectly competent and fairly generic open-world, third-person action game. Not unlike the later Uncharted, Assassins Creed and Watch Dogs games. It should do very well.
However, it's probably a little too generic, a little too familiar, for me to buy it at anything close to full price. Ubisoft's website says, "Risk it all as Kay Vess, a scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.". That's a description that applies to all of the 6 GTA games that I've already played from Vice City onwards.
Accordingly, this is a game that I'll rescue from the Amazon bargain bin when it reaches £20 next April.
I'm interested but I am going to await some GWJ reactions. My concern is it is an UbiSoft game and I got burned out on their open world formula sometime after AC: Origins.

How’d you get in here!?
Certis didn't ask when I registered many years back. It's probably a requirement to join now.
I haven't played an Ubisoft game since 2018's Far Cry 5, so I don't know whether that formula has evolved much through the recent Assassins Creeds. However, the main issue for me has been the writing. It's rarely good enough to bring the open world to life, and to allow me to have an experience that feels like mine alone.
When the writing shines, and the gameplay gives the player the options to make character-based/-defining choices, then you get a The Witcher 3 or (take a drink) a Red Dead Redemption 2. When the writing doesn't shine, and the gameplay gives no options... Well, you get a Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
I don't think this specific problem is unique to Ubisoft. I thought Marvel Spider-Man suffered a little from this. As did Dragon's Dogma 2. What was unique to Ubisoft was the ludicrous number of repetitive side missions that severed only to highlight their games' shallowness.

Well talk about a failure of screening. Someone get this mook out of here!
The reviewers that played the game say lots of good things, but the footage that has come out looks pretty bad (lots of bugs and weird gameplay). Reports are coming out that the first reviews and gameplay footage is from people that signed contracts on what they were allowed to say and what they weren't. Mostly conspiracy theory right now so I am taking it all with a grain of salt.
I am hoping it is good, but I might wait a little bit to see what people say when they play it (though knowing me I will crack and get it day one anyway).

Speaking as someone who gets keys and occasionally reviews things, it is 100% normal for companies to have directions about what can and can't be discussed for early reviews, so I'm wary of any framing that makes this out to be sinister. Mostly this stuff is about spoilers and getting into plot specifics/reveals. For example, Fallen Order's sequel didn't let the first wave of reviewers mention
Vader showed up.
(I suppose they wanted to save that reveal for the
, er, commercial that aired right before launch showing it
.
I'm both Ubi-style open world and Star War'd out but weirdly interested in this one?
I’m interested. I’m very forgiving of any game that delivers a fantasy I’m into and Outlaws, so far, seems to really get the appeal of the chaotic, fast talking, wild punch throwing, Han Solo type character.
I’m also a little hesitant and will, as always, wait for impressions and reviews. I have heard one or two people say that Massive have moved away from the worst aspects of that formula (The Division’s open worlds always worked for me) and that the main character upgrade system is based on Ghost of Tsushima’s. That game had you finding and following storylines of certain npcs who would, in turn, train you in specific abilities. I really liked that system.
I’ll also probably wait for a drop in price. Having grown up in an extremely price conscious home, I find it very difficult to justify paying full price for a game when I know full well that it’s going to be cheaper in a few month’s time.
Quite a few reviews have dropped and overall they're very positive - 78 average on Metacritic. Seems like the biggest gripe is technical issues but there are a few mentions that Ubi has already patched alot ahead of release. I'm on the fence about buying it at $70 because I'm not into Star Wars and am generally leary of Ubisoft but love the Division engine and games, which this is very similar to and the game just looks very fun. It also has a number of graphics settings including a smooth 60fps and seems to run pretty well. My wallet and backlog cry out in pain...

Mortismal Partial Review
Video explaining the graphics settings
Purchasing a Ubisoft+ premium subscription for $18/month gives access to the game tomorrow and includes other bonuses I believe. I'm probably going this route instead of dropping $70.
More positive reviews.
One reviewer was saying that the vibes and atmosphere in the game were superb and I think that’s why the game appeals to me so much.
This is the review I was mentioning. Really great impressions.
The early access says "Up to 3 days early", which I suspect is to cover the case where day 1 launch issues happen and everyone says "I paid for 3 days early". That is why I rarely pay extra for these early access versions. That being said, the Ubisoft+ for a month seems like a tempting offer. Chances are in a month I will be done with the game anyway, and if not, two or three months is still cheaper.

Ubisoft Premium gives the 3 day early access, which goes live 12AM EST tonight. If you change your region to NZ, you can play it right now, mate. I'm installing as of this post.
I wasn't saying you couldn't play 3 days early. I am just saying I have been burnt too many times with server downtimes causing the first few days to not really matter. It is usually worth it to just wait the 3 days and play when all the first day bugs are worked out. $40 extra just to play 3 days early is pretty steep, especially for a single player game.
I'm trying to decide whether Ubisoft+ is worth it. I know I'll be playing this game as well as the new Assassin's Creed at the end of the year. Seems like that's value right there.
Any good reason NOT to do it?
I just got Ubisoft+. I don't think I will be playing this game more then once so one or two month sub isn't bad. And if it ends up being amazing, I can always pick it up and give the devs some love. I played about 40min earlier today. So far it is ok, but haven't really gotten past the tutorial mission.
The Eurogamer review is just brutal. BRUTAL!
I feel like something has gone seriously wrong at Ubisoft in the last few years. FC6 was unplayably dull with bad gameplay mechanics. AC: Mirage was just an expansion that got puffed out into a full game. Avatar's free play weekend totally failed to make me want to spend any money on the game.
Immortals: Phoenix Rising was the last really good thing they've done, and they cancelled the sequel.
Enjoying it so far. Like the main character. Gameplay seems good although standard stuff - some Assassin's Creed stealth, some Division cover shooter, some Uncharted traversal mechanics. Really good world building with lots of different NPCs wandering around the areas. Can not fault it for that.
Game looks fantastic on PC. Right now playing at 1440p on Ultra settings, with ray tracing on. But unclear what my frame rate is. Seemed somewhat smooth up until I hit the second city. So likely have to turn down some features.
For technical issues the game locked up the first time I tried running it. Looks like the issue was the Ubisoft Connect overlay. Once I disabled that I was able to get into the game fine. But it kinda sucks I have to have that off for right now as you need that active to see the in-game FPS counter. Can always use the Xbox overlay one.
Haven't encountered any technical issues in the game itself. And from the reviews I'm seeing that's one of the pain points.
It does seem like people were critical towards the game before it was released. And reviewers seem to be just feeding into that view with nitpicks. I'm enjoying it but only an hour and a half in so will see how it plays out. Maybe in another few hours I'll feel different.
AC stealth, cover shooter and Uncharted traversal? I was already excited, but this is a list of things I love!
So I took a chance with Ubisoft+ last night. Joined, downloaded Outlaws, and was able to play immediately. This was at 9pm EST.
Went with default everything. Not sure what that makes my graphics settings - I'll look up later - but it runs silky smooth and looks great.
I played through the first Mission. Pleasant enough tutorial, though I can see that "lockpicking" is going to take some practice. I'm now at the point where I have to sneaky-sneaky across town to the start of the next mission. My guess is this is the stealth tutorial.
So far there's a lot to like and nothing to hate...
