Canada beating the Aussies in the women's 7s is something I didn't expect to happen that's for sure.

Caught some of that! Let's go!
Final is in 15m vs NZ.
They (essentially) walked it off!
That was an incredible last second win! Wow!
Whew. Was annoyed the US lost this morning but figure Aus and NZ were kind of the top of the sport
Good on Canada for winning and good on the USA for medaling
Yup.
That was an incredible last second win! Wow!
Also, congratulations to New Zeland, who are the Thanos of Rugby.
France v. Argetina in the men's soccer QFs.
I'm sure this will e a totally reasonable, even-tempered affair.
(Go France.)
Yup.
We watched Sunday's prelims last night on recording. Kids LOVED it.
Can't wait to watch the final tonight (again, on record, because we're not staying up for NBC's lame coverage)!
I know it's cool to complain about NBC's coverage of the Olympics, but I really like the Primetime in Paris show (other than the fact that the replays of it are only available for 24 hours on Peacock). There are just too many events to watch them in their entirety, so hitting the high points works for me, and then I can fill in by watching replays of more of the stuff not covered at night.
Also, in most cases, I like the NBC commentators way more than what you get with the Olympics Broadcasting Service stuff.

Genuinely, how demoralizing must it be to be swimming in the Olympics, look up halfway through the race and realize she's on the other side of the f*cking pool already?
It seems the swim isn't the only part of the triathlon where the athletes are eating shit.
There's a lot of crashing going on.
I just wanted to chip in (belatedly) on the Women's Rugby Sevens. A really fantastic tournament that threw up a few nice surprises towards the end.
After the group games, I fully expected an Australia/New Zealand final... with Australia winning gold in a tight contest. But first Canada, and then the USA, played brilliant games to defeat Australia in the semi-final and in the bronze medal match. And New Zealand just did what New Zealand do..
There was fantastic play all around, but - as an former winger - the standouts were: Maddison Levi for Australia, and; Michaela Blyde for New Zealand. Levi's angles and timing were brilliant, and fairly reflected in her haul of 13(?) tries. While Blyde's cuts were truly monstrous. My American Football team has a playoff game this weekend, and I've set as homework for my RBs watching as many of Australia's and New Zealand's games as they can, and focusing on Levi and Blyde.

Honestly, probably not too bad. You're happy to have made the final and realize that barring a catastrophic injury, the race is for 2nd and 3rd. Though maybe the fact that such a thing wouldn't demoralize me explains why I topped out at 'some-college-paid-for'.
This also shows why the buildup for the 400 was so dumb. It's her worst race (that she competes in -- I'm sure her 100 breast or something is much worse), and both Titmus' and McIntosh's best race. Put those two in the mile and see what the results look like.
And on a completely separate note, I desperately want to go back ~31 years (jfc!) to tell Doggystyle-era Snoop that in 30 years he's gonna be friends with people like Martha Stewart, spend the Olympics hanging out with athlete's families while cheering the athletes on, and kinda be a breakout star of NBC's Olympics coverage. At the very least I bet I'd get a 'who the f*ck is Martha Stewart?'.
Yeah Snoop and Martha being homies is the one pop culture thing that would blow 12 year old me's mind like nothing else
Define "homie."
I feel like there are plenty of these celeb things that are just brand collabs.

From all accounts those two are truly friends. Sure it could all just be good marketing but I prefer to believe otherwise.
She's got different levels of "friend", so I don't know whether he's a real friend or just a celebrity friend. I used to work for a couple who were "friends" with Martha Stewart, but they were part of the "wealthy local people" friend group that was never invited to the "actually rich or celebrity" friend group parties she'd hold at her MDI house.
I'm with Clumber, it could be fake, but by every single accounting I've heard, they are actually, for real capital-F Friends. If this is a marketing bit, it's been going on for AGES.
Anyway, Simone Biles.
Put him in the next John Wick plz.
This is Dikec’s fifth Olympics — he has competed in shooting events in every Summer Games since 2008.
He’s also a seven-time European champion and 2014 double world champion in the 25m standard pistol and 25m centerfire pistol, according to his Olympics biography.
Dikec’s bio says he took up shooting in 2001 after he started working as a non-commissioned officer for the Gendarmerie General Command (an armed law enforcement organization in Turkey).
His current occupation is listed as “athlete,” and EuroNews reports that he retired from the Gendarmerie.
Dikec lists exactly one hobby on his bio page: dancing. He’s also a cat lover, as social media sleuths quickly discovered.
His philosophy, ironically, is, “Success doesn't come with your hands in your pockets."

There's a reason the US Navy made them sponsors of the new USS Enterprise.

Great shooter but not wearing hearing protection in those events is like Trump during a solar eclipse.
They're air pistols/rifles. Most of them aren't wearing ear protection and those that do are just wearing it to drown out any distractions. Once they get to the actual firearms, all of them will be wearing ear protection.
He wears hearing protection, they're just earplug ones so not as visible.
Yeah he just doesn't wear the giant sound blocking headphones. He has tiny blue earplugs that you can see from side images during the competition.
Whoops, forgot. The above is the US winning gold in team fencing.
Anyway, things went better for US Men's Soccer at the Olympics. At least, until today.
