Julián Álvarez for 82m seems a tad steep but he's 24 and football inflation.

Busy off season for Atleti.

Might be less.

The fee is made up of an initial £64.4m (75m euros) with a further £17.1m (20m euros) in potential add-ons.

Pepe has put an end to his career. He still showed moments of brilliance but 41 years get heavy on the legs.

I loved watching Pepe play. Just the right balance of brilliance and being an absolute mentalness.

It’s the Community Shield today. I quite genuinely did not know this was happening, it’s the first time I’ve managed that in decades I reckon.

With the Olympics running so late and the various international tournaments there has genuinely been no break.

Wow, yeah, I had no clue, but it was always going to be a distant second to the Olympics today.

Well Leeds started their season in the Leeds way, completely dominate the game, 20 shots to 4, and draw 3-3. I hate Leeds.

The MLS is.......

Major League Soccer is looking to launch a professional women’s soccer league sometime after the 2027 Women’s World Cup, multiple sources have told Scarves and Spikes.

While MLS is targeting a 2027 launch, that plan is “in flux” as time is needed for preparation and building proper infrastructure, including a new media rights deal that MLS wants right out of the gate. One source stated that the women’s league is “going to happen, but exactly how is up in the air”.

The new league would not result from a buyout of the NWSL, as several ownership groups in the existing league do not favor that proposal, but will be an entirely new entity.

lol they waited for the NWSL to build up the women’s game just to try and swoop in and take advantage of it? This is the kind of despicable that Daffy Duck was talking about.

This all feels so unnecessarily antagonistic. And like they’re willing to unravel the progress made for the chance to be able to own the success.

The Championship got running in England (and Wales!) this weekend and was straight into mid-season form.

Rooney's new team lost 4-0 to the team that finished 20th last season and then, in a move guaranteed for scucess, Wayne shouted at his players.

Also, Preston lost 0-2 at home to Parachute Payment's Sheffield United and their manager resigned this morning.

Going back to last season, Preston had lost six on the bounce without scoring a goal, but it seems weird to hang on through the summer, lose to a team that was in the Premiership last year and then decide that's enough.

According to this Excel chart I made, Lowe's departure suggests more than forty managers will be fired in the Championship this season!

LOL, Saudis allegedly have made a bid for Vinicius.

Ah, nothing like looking up on a Tuesday and seeing a slew of random Carabao Cup updates from clubs that aren't going to win the thing anyway but it's fun to watch them bash goals past each other.

Also, Rangers 0-0 Dynamo Kiev, 71st minute

I really don't know if I can bothered with the Fantasy League this season

two late goals for Kyiv, goodbye Rangers.

Most of my fellow Americans don't know about this I assume, but happy trails to Garth Crooks and his BBC Premier League Team of the Week.

Garth has a reputation for choosing some... positionally curious Teams of the Week. See below:

Yes, that is Alexis Sanchez at wingback.

Also one of the funniest explanations for a player's selection I've ever seen:

For those interested in taking down the reigning champion of the GWJ FPL throwdown now is the best time! Why because its me and therefore quite simple to take the title!

The link is here and you are more than welcome. If you want a quick rules precis drop me a DM.

Show the world your managerial prowess you never know you might get to manage East Fife on the back of it on your C.V

..aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand Mbappe has already opened his Madrid account.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand Jose is already complaining about the Refs.

Honestly, that was far more predictable. How much would you have had to bet to earn back your money on that happening in his first week of competitive matches?

Pochettino next USMNT Coach per reports anywho.

Fantastic choice if true, altough I hope he's willing to step up and tell the USSF where to get off when needed.

GOD yes. Right into my veins.

I am so excited for the next nine months of relentlessly stupid shit.

Oh Jordan Henderson is at Ajax. Lol

I just saw the headline Liverpool sign Evans from Man United and thought for 30 seconds that Slot had lost his mind until I clicked on it and it was Gemma not Jonny.

And it begins.

I was very bad at remembering there are Friday games last season.

Nice way to wind down the work day

Ah, the evening shift.

Anyway, I am quietly very optimistic about this Fulham season.

....of course, the last time I felt really good about a Fulham season, we got relegated so....

Blarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrf.
