God damn it Kyle, no, the other “Jr.” receiver from last year’s Panthers!
The Niners reached an agreement to extend Aiyuk after all...
Schefty says it is the same deal he had on the table the whole time so at least he got to not practice.
The way the NFL handles contracts, trades, and negotiations is absolutely wild.
So the same deal they offered weeks ago. That was pointless
Sounds almost like the Hollywood contract disputes from last year.
So, the Aiyuk contract details are out.
The $30m/yr figure only counts the 4 new years, and doesn't factor in this year, where his $14.1m option year was renegotiated down to $1.12m.
His cap hits through the first 3 years (ie. the existing year plus the first two of the 4 new contracted years) are:
2024: $5.725m
2025: $11.19m
2026: $16.22m
After that point, the Niners could get out of the deal, eating only about half of the remaining money.
Effectively, I'd call it a 3 year deal with a couple team options at the end.
Apparently, Aiyuk did get close to being traded in a 3-way deal, involving Denver and Pittsburgh.
Based on what The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported and SI's Albert Breer confirmed, the deal would have looked like:
49ers get:
Courtland Sutton
Steelers 2nd round pick
Broncos get:
Steelers 3rd round pick
Steelers get:
Brandon Aiyuk
Ultimately, the deal didn't happen because the Broncos weren't willing to give up Sutton for a 3rd.

If they had included James Conner, I bet the deal would have gotten done.
Dynasty league inside joke
49ers WR Ricky Pearsall shot during robbery attempt:
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in an attempted robbery in San Francisco on Saturday afternoon, police say.A male suspect around 3:30 p.m. attempted to rob Pearsall when an altercation broke out between the two, resulting in both men suffering injuries, according to a news release from the San Francisco Police Department.
The suspect is in police custody as of Saturday evening, according to the department.
Officers rendered aid to the two men and transported them to a hospital for treatment, the release said.
“My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time,” San Francisco Mayor London Breed said in a post on X, “We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them.”
CNN has reached out to the 49ers for comment.
The rookie wide receiver was drafted by the 49ers with the 31st pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft earlier this year. Before being drafted, the 23-year-old played three years at Arizona State and two at Florida during his collegiate career. He finished his last collegiate season, amassing 965 receiving yards and six touchdowns in his final season with Florida.
The 49ers are set to play their first game of the season against the New York Jets on September 9.
At the risk of this going to Cleveland, this isn't going to dispel the notion that crime in major cities is at an epidemic level, particularly with San Francisco's former DA running for president.
Pearsall has been released from the hospital. His mother posted an update yesterday that stated the bullet went straight through Ricky and missed his vital organs.
It sounds like Ricky was extremely lucky and narrowly missed a lot of bad outcomes.
When CJ Stroud compared Pearsall to Tank Dell on draft weekend, this wasn't what I expected it to mean.
Regardless of the physical effects ("No damage to major organs, heal up and get back out there") that has got to be a large mental impact on someone getting shot and especially at close range in an altercation like that. I hope he's got lots of support around him.
Thankfully no worse than getting stabbed with a lightsaber unless your name is Qui-Gon Jinn.
Pearsall has been put on the reserve/non-football injury list, and will miss at least the first 4 weeks of the season.
It seems likely that Pearsall will return during the season, which is more than anyone could have hoped for when the news first broke. No surgery was required on the wound.
