NFL 2024: The draft thread!

The Ravens came to a very team friendly deal with high ceiling/low production WR Rashod Bateman. This tells me that they are deprioritizing the position early in the draft. They have their WR1 in Flowers and now that he is out of the woods regarding his potential discipline, the pressure to panic buy is over.

Mocks have us going for OT, WR, CB, or Edge. All appear to be positions fat in high end depth. The positions we have settled appear to be the weakest in this year's draft (ILB, RB, TE, SFT, C). EDC signaled we would go after a RB at the Liar's Luncheon which is a sure indicator that we won't. In any event, he has a history of letting the board drop to him and taking the best player available, so any telegraphing of his intentions is pure fod anyway. Mostly I am hoping for seven QBs to go in round one so something juicy drops to us at #30.

Is it just me or is this year a particularly hard one for assessing talent? I have seen players jump all over the board in the last month. WR Keon Coleman has been as high as 12 and as low as 58. QBs like Penix have had similar gyrations. And if the price is right, I could easily see the Ravens trading out of round one and take someone like Coleman or Tyler Guyton early in round two if they think the fall would continue.

It also feels like every year we have some kind of irrational run on a single position in the first round. Hopefully, it is QB this year as this increases the chances of a top 20 player dropping to us at 30. And though that is likely, there is also pretty strong potential for a lot of teams to overdraft at WR or Edge like in many years. What do you think it will be this year?

A.J. Brown is reportedly signing an extension for $32m/yr, pushing the WR market even further.

That’s going to make everything around Brandon Aiyuk even more complicated.

No Giants trade up for Maye, boo.

That said, I’ve expected trades to be less furious than some people were suggesting would happen. I expect the Cardinals to stay put and pick Marvin Harrison Jr too, because of course I would have to suffer MHJ in the NFC West after suffering his dad’s whole career in the AFC South.

This is boring. Thank goodness for Draw Play Dave

OK, chalk for the first four picks; now, LET CHAOS REIGN.

While I’m throwing around predictions, I am not at all buying the idea of Michael Penix as a top half of the round pick.

Odds that Penix's the high profile nose dive of the evening? I want to know who's body language I need to study.

I'll put a dollar on JJ.

Of course the Chargers take Joe Alt. They have Greg Roman as OC, what would they need a WR for?

Watching this with a Vikings fan. So disappointed Minnesota hasn't done something insane to go up for a QB, would have been so much more entertaining. Very selfish of them.

Well this aged poorly.

OH GOD YES MORE MORE PUT IT IN MY VEINS

I like that hedge by Atlanta, personally. Give Penix a year on the bench and give yourself an out if Kirko Bangz turns out to just be Kirk Cousins.

What do I win? Other than cursing having Cousins as my only QB in dynasty.

Hey Minnesota got a backup for Darnold.

Nice job NFL Network slipping in some JJ fumbles in his highlight reel. Did someone in the truck hit the wrong button?

If I'm reading Over the Cap right, cutting Cousins after two years would lead to a $100 million dead cap hit. After three years, it's down to $37.5 million.

It's not that drafting Penix was just a bad idea, it was a bad idea based on the contract they'd given Cousins. He's on that roster for three years minimum, eating up all the cap space and making your cheap rookie QB contract basically irrelevant. From that standpoint, this is an idiotic move by the Falcons.

And I LOVE it.

I feel like I might just be getting old but I'm watching the McAfee show to see how BB analyzes the picks and the antics are terrible. Bill even looks uncomfortable when he's not talking. Is there some sort of inside joke I'm missing out on?

Michael Penix is one day older than Trey Lance.

BO NIX #12??

With more season-ending leg injuries.

Ooo, but with all the QBs gone, Gardner Minshew is the Raiders starter now. Yay?

I imagine all these other teams* are shocked at the talent that is available sliding down the board.

*Smart teams

The Bucs' three biggest needs are IOL, DE, and CB, and none taken yet. Big fan of this draft so far.

Might be misquoting this stat but pretty sure latest defensive player ever taken was 8th overall.

Latu goes 15th.

Latu setting a new record for number of hugs in the green room.

How can you not have LB on there when they lost a talent like Devin White?
