NFL 2024: The preseason pre-draft thread

Dang, Pittsburgh got jack-crap for Pickett.

I thought they got more than he was worth.

Pickett was going to bring more trade compensation to Philly, but he couldn't hold it all in his tiny little hands.

Wouldn't be the first Pickett who failed spectacularly in Pennsylvania.

Seems like a good deal for a backup QB that costs under 4mil against the cap over the next 2 years. 2 sevenths and a mid-round pick swap?

I figured there was no way the Steelers were going to carry more than two QBs into the season and, for some reason, they have a hard on for Mason Rudolf.

Steelers went from stiffy to iffy on Rudolph. He just signed with the Titans.

That means Russ is the only QB on the Steelers' roster. Maybe his ego is QB2?

That's a serious Charge.

The G in Jimmy G stands for "Go away."

Apparently it means "go sign with the Rams".

I need to redo my list. Aaron Donald is on it.

He'd thought of it before, but, damn, guess I've seen a guy who could legitimately be considered the greatest DT of all time play for the last time. Safe to say we know who's going to be in Canton in five years.

Update: Pittsburgh's QB2 is Justin Fields, who they got via trade from the Bears.

Or maybe he'll be QB1. Steelers are in QB Hell, so anything's possible.

Hot take; I’d rather Fields than Russ.

Same. But this is going to be a fun QB controversy to watch.

Amazing. Russ yesterday must of been like yes it's all mine.

Today again were in a situation where he might not even start game 1.

Steelers were f*cked at QB anyways so can't really blame them for going full reset in the most dramatic way.

They will still draft a project guy also to make it a tad more dramatic.

49ers signed De'Vondre Campbell. They needed a body while Greenwall recovers. Not sure if Campbell is that guy though. He was dinged up last year so that was the reason or excuse his play fell off. Sadly it's more likely he just got too slow to keep up. LB might be the 2nd brutal position to RB when you fall off you are just done.

I don't know how well Russ does with Tomlin. And that's an org culture that is extremely strong.

I would bet he's going to need to be eating a lot of humble pie from now until camp. And none of that sugar free stuff with Sucralose in it. Actual full-calorie Humble Pie from Humbletown in West Humble.

So. Let me get this straight.

Cleveland's QB room presently looks like....

Deshaun Cosby
Jameis Crablegs
Pro Bowl Tyler Huntley

What are the odds on a prop bet that Huntley will start before week 10?

Don't forget DTR!

Just kidding, you can forget about him.

Somebody at the niners fat fingered it on the calculator.

The San Francisco 49ers have forfeited a 2025 draft choice and were penalized four spots for a selection in this year's draft as a result of administrative payroll accounting errors, the NFL announced Monday.

The Niners will give up their original fifth-round choice in the 2025 draft and have their 2024 fourth-round selection move from No. 131 to No. 135.

"We take responsibility and accept the imposed discipline from the NFL due to a clerical payroll error," the Niners said in a statement. "At no time did we mislead or otherwise deceive the league or gain a competitive advantage in connection with the payroll mistake."

Math is hard.

There were questions when the Saints signed Chase Young; why are they signing a guy who visibly took so many plays off for a 49ers team that went to the Super Bowl and just didn't try that hard? Why did they give him a one year, $13 million guaranteed contract? How did they fit him into their ludicrously overtuned cap situation?

And, now, why would you give all of that to a guy who is going to have to have neck surgery, and it may keep him out until the regular season?

Looks like kickoffs might become a thing again. Today's news is that the owners might vote Monday on this proposal, which the competition committee approved (albeit with one change from what's at the link: touchbacks would come out to the 30, not the 35).

Deion Sanders continues to find ways to make Deion Sanders be in the media. He's now proclaiming that Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter will only play for certain teams, and they'll pull an Eli and refuse to play there if drafted. I know it's a year early, but are either of those guys consider can't-miss enough prospects where they're going to be able to blow up the draft process? Sure, NIL money is nice and all and can help someone stick in college longer, but I don't see either one of these guys moving the needle.

If Caleb Williams had pulled this kind of thing, maybe something happens, but this really just feels like Deion being Deion.

Ravens fans like being exclusive

Weird that the Cowboys aren't included. Are we to believe that America's Team can't be exported?

Also, too, I look forward to the Panthers finishing last in the NFC Bavaria division.

Germany gets the Bucs, Falcons, and Panthers, France gets the Saints.

War . . . war never changes . . .

Nigerians can say "Factory of Sadness" in English, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, and 525 other regional languages. That's also roughly the same number of quarterbacks Cleveland has had over the last 20 years.

SEA is...Austria, Switzerland, Germany? The f*ck?!

Yes, also CAN, but that actually makes sense given the proximity.

Three huge Asian countries logically have an LA team... But it's always the Rams. Not even Mexico cares about the Chargers who used to play within commuting distance to the second largest city in the country.

It seems like a wasted opportunity that the Ravens are not pushing for Scandinavian fans.
