MLB 2024 Season - October is Upon Us

That f*ckin' guy.

EDIT: I cannot express how much of a compliment it is that he has reached "This Motherf*cker" status.

One error snowballs... love it.

Yankees want me dead, apparently.

Dodgers in control here but I have no idea who they're going to pitch in the ninth. Surprise reliever Yamamoto?

Edit: I think Freeman used to pitch in college #justsaying

Phew, glad that's over. Ohtani was surprisingly inconsequential. Judge warmed up way too late. Freeman is the obvious MVP. Well done, Dodgers.

Time to sadwatch another Maple Leafs season!

Okay, this was bad enough but... do you need help?

I really do

They gonna replay that 5th inning forever.

Biggest comeback ever in a clinching game. So this will be mentioned for years if anyone gets down 4 or 5 in the playoffs.

Great stuff

I did find some mirth tonight at the idea of Mike Trout watching Shohei leave for the kind of deal he could've gotten years ago, and IMMEDIATELY winning a title.

I've never considered loyalty a character flaw, but in Mike Trout's case, i'm almost there.

No Capobianco brothers = No second win.

The game five inning five defensive meltdown was the perfect karmic payback for the fan interference in game four.

Anything that upsets the Yankees and their fans is alright by me!

I really feel like this kind of content only works with baseball. And I love it.

You will be shocked, SHOCKED to discover that Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani have won the AL/NL MVPs.

I know this is rich coming from a Yankees fan, but the Dodgers landing Blake Snell is what people mean when they say "this is the kind of greed they talked about in the Bible."

The deal, which is pending a physical, includes no opt-outs, some deferred money and a $52 million signing bonus, sources said.

I have no idea how, both literally and financially, this "deferred money" thing works but I feel like the Dodgers have found some kind of weird J. Wellington Wimpy loophole in MLB contracts.

They get luxury taxed and are willing to pay it. I believe deferred money reduces that tax as well.

And they're reportedly in the lead to get Roki Sasaki!

And then they assume revenue will keep rising so that when they have to start making those ridiculous deferred payments, it won't be as big of a deal as it would be to pay the same amount right now.

Given the way the RSN system is currently collapsing, and taking with it a whole bunch of money teams assumed they'd have going forward, I'm not so sure that's a good bet to make.

All that said, 'flags fly forever' and whatnot, so it's probably worth it. The fanbase will get to see some championship teams and then maybe go through a painful decade of being mediocre -- or just any other season for a Mariners fan like me.

When my nephew is born, he'll be raised a Giants and Mariners fan in Dodgers country. I should start a trust fund for therapy in advance.

By the time he’s five, he will have at least one Shohei shirt

Dodgers' deferred payments top $1 billion to 7 players

NEW YORK -- Contracts for Blake Snell and Tommy Edman increased the Los Angeles Dodgers' obligations for deferred payments to more than $1 billion owed to seven players from 2028 to 2046.

Snell's $182 million contract, announced Saturday, includes $66 million in deferred money payable to the pitcher through July 1, 2046, according to contract terms obtained by The Associated Press.

Edman's $74 million, five-year deal, announced Friday, includes $25 million payable to the infielder/outfielder through July 1, 2044.

Los Angeles now owes deferred payments of $1,006,500,000 to seven players from 2028-46.

Bobby Bonilla Day in LA, for nearly 20 years.

Snell gets a $52 million signing bonus payable on Jan. 25 and yearly salaries of $26 million, of which $13.2 million annually will be deferred. The deferred money is payable in equal installments each July 1 from 2035-46.

Los Angeles has a $10 million conditional club option for 2023 that could be exercised if Snell has a qualifying injury as specified in the contract and he spends 90 or more consecutive days on the injured list due to the qualifying injury and he has not been traded.

If Snell is traded, he would receive a $5 million assignment bonus, payable by the acquiring team.

He gets a hotel suite on road trips.

LOL.
