NCAA Basketball 2023-24 Catch All

Stele, what can you tell me about Chris Mack?

He's a quitter?

Nah, I guess the Louisville job was too much for him. It's clearly too much for a lot of people. He was great at Xavier. Should be solid at Charleston.

I don't enjoy the pack line defense, and he's a big proponent of that. Not quite as slow tempo and deliberate as Virginia, but same ideas on defense. Be interesting to see which assistants he gets, if any guys stick around, since both he and Kelsey were originally Skip Prosser assistants at Wake Forest.

Purdue v Tennessee has been a great one

So frustrating.

Great season. Unfortunate draw that we could have avoided by winning probably one more game.

Of the teams left, I'd like our odds against everybody but UConn and Purdue.

Yeah this is just like the women's crappy weight room at the bubble tournament in 21. Once again the NCAA doesn't care enough to get things right on the women's side

NCSU keeps the good times rolling. Kevin Keatts now earns ANOTHER automation 2-year extension for making the Final Four. That's in addition to the 2 years for winning the ACC tournament and the 1 year for making the Sweet 16. In 3 short weeks he has secured the hell out of his job.

Should be a fun Final Four.

Looks like it automatically threw my first bracket in there.

If you were in last year you should be able to rejoin without the link, just create a bracket on ESPN.

I am in 2nd place with a chance to win?

Go Boilermakers!

The rematch.

Is good.

This, however, is an absolutely HORRIBLE picture to use for the front page, ESPN.

41 points. 9-20 from 3. Repeatedly making the OTHER team do "the shrug."

That was fun.

“Y’all come guard her then”

This has, somehow, insanely, ended with Kim Mulkey getting derided as "woke."

At the half, and Caitlin Clark being 3-11 and 0-6 from three is going to make Iowa's life.... difficult. Either she turns it around, the rest of the team steps up, or they go home.

Really hope they win. Can't have another UConn title.

Whew

Thought Purdue was about to blow it open up 10. But NCSU cut it back to 5. Still got a game for the 2nd half at least.

You'd have thought so... But Purdue just turned up the heat in the second half and never really looked back.

Now the 2nd game... close at half, but Bama shooting 8-11 from 3. So not sustainable. And yet they caught up and tied the game. Only to have a UConn run push it back up to 8.

Does Alabama have another run or are we stuck with the big guys Monday?

Similar outcome. Alabama couldn't close the gap in the 2nd, and UConn started playing their motions to really good effect. They are so damn dangerous.

I guess I'm pulling for Purdue in the final? I don't think I want Hurley repeating.

Yeah I've been anyone but Uconn for a while. At least on paper Purdue can matchup.

Women's final today at 3. Cheering for Iowa to pull off a miracle.

Clark is not of this world.

Edit: her team sure is though.

Three Olympic gold medals. Two national player of the year awards at Virginia. Six WNBA all-star appearances. Three national titles in seven years as a head coach. It's a very short list in basketball history of folks who have a better overall resume than Dawn Staley.

Bracket update:

UptoIso can win if Purdue wins.

Looks like tboon wins if UConn does, although 2 others picked them too.

Raven Johnson on Caitlin Clarke.

Or, as they say...

OFFENSE SELLS TICKETS! DEFENSE WINS GAME!!!!
Kentucky losing their coach to Arkansas because Arkansas lost their coach to USC because USC lost their coach to SMU is an absurd chain of events

I think I will win my office pool if UCONN wins (like $50 gift card), and I will win here if Purdue wins (sh*t-talking for a year).

For all the years that I watched a ton of college hoops and actually prepared and thought about the tourney, why is it the year that I may have watched like two games before selection Sunday and did 0 prep the year I do best?

John Calipari to Arkansas

Getting out before they throw you out?

I hope you win the $50

I hear that. I watched less college basketball than ever this year, maybe a half total over the entire year.
I feel like one of those people who win their pool because the picked mascots.

Why, yes, I think a husky dog is way cooler than a bullsh*t whiskey-with-beer-chaser drink, why do you ask?

I think the selection committee does such a good job of ranking the teams for the bracket that even people like me who follow ZERO college hoops can actually make some good guesses on a bracket just by those rankings. (this was a work area bracket for me)

So do I. Bragging I did the best here after admitting I know nothing and didn't try somehow doesn't seem like it is worth whatever $50 gift card they can give me.

But don't be mistaken, I will make it a point to be $50 worth of insufferable on here as a consolation prize.
