NCAA Basketball 2023-24 Catch All

Hehe, 14 seed Oakland beats Kentucky. Good times.

UK is the basketball school...football school...cheerleading school!

Forgot to post at 1am but man Kansas got lucky with a terrible blown call. Clean block by Samford, would have had the ball down 1 in a 5-on-4. Probably could have won.

I was thinking the same thing. Pretty much all the post-game review said the same thing. Bad call breaking for a Blue Blood?

FAU drops their 8/9 matchup with Northwestern. Not too surprised, they'd been inconsistent all season.

Also, Cardiac Pack is back for real? Survive and Advance, 2.0? Oakland cleared their immediate path (though don't sleep on those Golden Grizzlies)...

15 seed WKU up at half. This could get interesting.

SDSU survives the first round jitters.
5 more wins to go.

Let's see what the WaPo has on Kim Mulkey, cuz' threatening to sue BEFORE the article comes out tells me they found some dirt.

Double OT for Oregon last night. They had it won in regulation but missed FTs. Then Creighton got hot 2nd OT like a 15-0 run

Survive and advance, Vols.

Don't look at the shooting stats.

(If UT had even hit 25% of those mostly open 3's, it would have been a blow out. But they didn't, and it wasn't.)

Whew.

Ugly wins are still wins!

Watching that, I think UT matched up worse against Oregon of the two. Tennessee's weakness this year is BIG big men. Aidoo can be really good, but doesn't preform as well against the really physical guys. Kansas, Purdue, Auburn to some degree.

Creighton is probably better on average, but that Dante matchup for UT vs Oregon scares me more.

Wish they'd had to play a couple more OT's.

WaPo should thank her for the increased web traffic to their site.

NCAA swapped out a ref mid-game in the women's UT Chattanooga vs NC State game because she had a masters from UTC.

https://apnews.com/article/march-mad...

Given how most of the people I know who have a Masters talk about it, they probably took her out because she was going to be biased against UTC.

Huh the "down" ACC got 4 of the Sweet 16. 8-0 in round 1 and 2.

Weird.

Maybe the Big 12 inflating the NET was real.

So last year SDSU:

Barely scraped by the #12 seed in the first round.
Blew out a 13-seed in the round of 32.
Faced the #1 overall seed in the sweet-16.

History is repeating...

I hope you take down UConn. I'm sure the team has been thinking about it since last year.

Stele, I'm not happy that Louisville is maybe stealing Charleston's coach.

Sorry about that. But yeah he's pretty awesome. Certainly won the press conference today.

Now he needs to go win the portal.

Sweet 16 games tonight.

I forgot to do the ESPN second chance game this year. Does anyone want to try that in the next 2 hours? Hah

He's relentlessly positive. It can come across as almost cheesy but at least from a far (haven't made it down for a game in years) it seemed genuine. He'll drop into random classes and give out swag. He made good use of the portal and was a great recruiter at the mid-major level, the cougs finished around top 50 in the 247 composite two cycles back. It could be my homerism talking but I don't think he would have left but for a few jobs. One being a Bball blue blood fallen on hard times that just happens to be 90 minutes from where he grew up. Curious if he brings any cougars with him. Whole team is basically in the portal, with the best probably being a 3 point shooting Aussie.

Yeah he dodged the question on how many of the 4 juniors were coming with him. But I think he can't technically talk about players in portal specifically until they are signed.

I did notice the one kid that shoots 40% from 3 and we have really needed that the last 3 years.

He seems confident, not cocky, threading that needle. Like he said something today, "If you don't plan on winning don't put your shoes on." I like it.

Well there goes my bracket.
OUCH!
Overall though I have to be happy with this season, making it the sweet 16 is nothing to sneeze at. Time to reload, I'm sure we'll be back in the tourney next year.

Sigh. When your All-American, 1st team ACC, ACC player of the year goes 0-a billion from 3, your chances of winning a game go way down.

Ah well.

First time all season RJ doesn't make a 3. He's 0-9. And they lose by 2.

Brutal.

Fascinating how much more attention the Women's tourney is getting this year. The reason of course is obvious, Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Juju Watkins, Paige Buecher, stanfurd tall blonde woman, Juju Watkins, on and on.. I literally can't name a non-Cal men's player, couldn't tell you who would be the 1st pick in the NBA Draft, etc.

At the same time, like usual, the Women's Tournament is basically 100% Chalk isn't it? The Men's game is all about about George Mason, Loyola Chicago, UMBC, the little schools and the upsets... Other than maybe South Carolina, does anyone want to see an upset in the Women's tournament?

I thought last year was pretty big. Caitlin Clark vs the crazy outfits of the LSU coach. All the disrespectful hand gestures, etc.

I really wonder about if Tennessee is ever going to get back into it. Seems like Pat Summitt's legacy is slowly dying. It's crazy to think that one of UT's weakest sports is women's basketball. We're really good in everything from football, men's basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, soccer etc. But women's basketball where we had one of the best to ever coach the game is underperforming.

I will be honest, the only men's bb player I can name in Bronny James. And that is only because of his dad.

It's really f*cking annoying that they refuse to call him Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. It doesn't matter what his name was when he was in college. His name is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

They only pull this sh*t with him and Ali. They'll bend over backwards to always say Metta World Peace or Chad Ochocinco.

Vols are 4-1 against the Elite 8. Only loss is to Purdue by 4. The team we have to play.

Beat Alabama twice, Illinois, and NC State.

Clemson beat Alabama at Alabama. Rematch should be interesting.

Hopefully 4 good games today and tomorrow

Stele, what can you tell me about Chris Mack?
