NCAA Basketball 2023-24 Catch All

And#3 Kansas. #4Uconn tipping off soon. Can the whole top 5 lose within 25 hours?

That's not the only victory.... Congratulations for beating Miami, Stele!

Meh. 1 road win after 47 games is not a victory. The only victory in 2024 will be hiring a new coach.

Happy for the kids. But jeez Miami played 0 defense. I've played in tougher games at the student center on campus years ago.

Fair enough. I can kinda understand. It's nice for the team. But too little too late.

UNC grinds out another road win, holding NCSU to ~27% shooting. Again, some of that is them just missing open looks... but the defense should get some credit. Next up, first home game in ~42 days against an annoying and talented Syracuse team that is liable to give our guards trouble.

Elsewhere...

#3 Kansas lost
#5 Tennessee lost
#9 Oklahoma lost
#11 Marquette lost
#21 Clemson lost

Not a great day for the top 25!

Others Receiving Votes, Colorado (8) lost... TO CAL!! 2 Conference Wins in a row!

I thought UCLA just sucked but maybe Cal is getting better.

That's why Louisville won finally. Had to stay ahead of you for not worst team in power conference

Well if Net rankings mean anything in January, Vandy is #242, Louisville is #236. Since Wizkid (and Legion) are here, Fresno State is #245.

Cal is a whopping #162.. ahead of Oregon State and UCLA! We're not even worst in our conference anymore.

ON THE CUSP OF QUAD 3 BABY!

Well after last year you were bound to be better.

For 75th anniversary the AP all time top 25

UK barely edges UNC for 1.
Duke
Kansas
UCLA
Louisville
Arizona
Indiana
Syracuse
Michigan St

There's your top 10.

#6 UK goes down to Texas A&M.

My Vols start strong, check out for the middle of the game and end up down 12 or so, then come back to take the lead at the end for the win with a 15-1 run against UGA. Dalton Knect scores 36 on the road.

Ranked teams losing on the road week continues... UK and SDSU.

Utah St survives by 1, and Tenn. So 2-2 today

BYU in a 1 point game at UCF, who just knocked off Kansas the other night. Arizona Texas and Houston still to play.

Down goes Houston Arizona and Texas. What a week

Man what a bad week to be ranked, and man is the Mountain West dangerous.

I sometimes think conference play doesn't get the weight it deserves. People laud playing a tough non-conference schedule (and I'm not decrying that), but conf play brings familiar opponents. Coaches who know the predilections and weaknesses of opposing teams. The scouting is better. It's hard to win on the road regardless, but those student sections do RESEARCH for the visiting team. It's typically true that there are teams in the league that just aren't as talented, deep, or experienced... but we've entered an area of Any Given Night type basketball. The monsters aren't as scary, and if you don't bring your A game every night, be prepared to lose.

Monday's AP rankings should be interesting. I don't think UNC's progress merits a move into to the top 4, but with losses across the slate, the voters might decide differently. I'm still not sure they should leapfrog Kentucky, but I assume we'll see UConn at the 1. Gets murky after that.

Annnnd down goes another top 10 team. Illinois falls to Maryland.

Decent shake up -

1. UConn
2. Purdue
3. Kansas
4. UNC
5. Houston
6. Tennessee
7. Duke
8. Kentucky
9. Baylor
10. Memphis
11. Wisconsin
12. Arizona
13. Auburn
14. Illinois
15. Oklahoma
16. Utah State
17. Marquette
18. Creighton
19. TCU
20. BYU
21. Dayton
22. Ole Miss
23. FAU
24. Iowa State
25. Texas Tech

I'm not sure I'd put UNC over Houston, Hell, I think you could potentially go best 2 out of 3 with any of those top 25 at your peril.

Hey Louisville is #1 at something.

College basketball worst coaching hires.

A few of y'all's teams are on this list too.

This Dalton Knecht guy can play some basketball at Tennessee. Last 3 games, 26 against Mississippi State, 36 vs Georgia, and 39 tonight against Florida.

He went into a bit of a scoring lull after putting up 37 at UNC when he hurt his ankle, but may he's back. Can't remember UT having a guy that can score at all levels like he can. We've had outside shooters and paint guys that can get their shots, but he's doing it all over.

NCSU manages a come-from-behind win in a game at home that devolved into some chippy antagonistic play towards the end. Coach Keats was ejected about 17 min into the game (I think) after getting 2 back to back Technical Fouls for being on the court (complaining about a no-call under the NCSU basket). There were 2 more double technical fouls in the last minute when an almost brawl erupted after a made basket by an NCSU player. Not a good look (a shoulder bump turned into a bunch of jawing, and went downhill from there).

Clemson loses in double OT at home to Georgia Tech.
Syracuse absolutely obliterates Pitt in Pittsburgh.

Elsewhere, Purdue and Kansas roll. Baylor and TCU lose!

I feel the same way about Wake...

Ranked teams were 2-4 on the road last night. Wild conference play continues

New Mexico takes down #16 Utah state. For those keeping track at home that’s 2 wins in a row versus ranked teams. Now we play the game of how many different teams will be ranked in the Mountain West at one point this season.

Louisville covered at UNC. Hah.

Still lost by 16. And of course Lou > UNC transfer J Withers had his best game of the season. Sheesh.

That game was closer than the final score, I think. There was a period in the 2nd where y'all were having trouble missing. What was it, 8 for 9? We went cold at the same time.

So much for our vaunted defense? Glad to get the win. When Louisville cut it to 5, I was up at the edge of my seat, shouting at the TV.

Elsewhere, FSU pummels Miami and Virginia throttles VT.

Ranked teams mostly had a good night. Ole Miss lost (to unranked LSU). Texas Tech fell to Houston.

UNC travels to Boston College next, and then has a short turnaround to play Wake in Chapel Hill. Not crazy about those Saturday -> Monday back to backs, but they're more like the post-season tournament setup, so it's good in some ways.

Yeah if you're making the tournament, in season Saturday Monday games are the best prep. Used to love being on Big East Big Monday for years...

So Louisville gives up 18 3s and loses by 25 at Wake.

Just kill me.

Most 3s for any ACC team in any game this season by 2. Most 3s Cards have given up in 19 years, but that was the overtime Elite 8 game against WVU that Louisville actually won.

Gotta love blowing out your biggest rival school while watching their football team reel so they don't have any solace. Even with Knecht having an "off" day with only 25 points. UT 91, Alabama 69. Alabama who was ranked #5 in NET.

Ugly ugly game at BC. 53 fouls called!

UNC wins by 10, but it felt a lot closer. They looked tired to start, and played more of the bench than normal.

Did you see Lunardi's latest bracketology? Hah.
