Alan Wake 2 - AWE-all

Pages

I probably missed this topic entirely. I was certain we'd have a catch-all for Alan Wake. But we don't?

In case it was written out of existence, here's a new one. Let's hope it doesn't release any Dark Presences.

We do have a catch-all, from 2009:

Although maybe it'd be better to have a new one for, uh, the new one?

It's not a lake.... it's a forum (ocean).

Yeah, new game calls for new Catch-All.

This slayed me.

I can't wait to get this and immediately set it to easy difficulty.

Out of all the "big" studio "AAA" games released this year, this is the way.

I think I'm going to put out a quick recap of Alan Wake and Control (like I did for Baldur's Gate 1&2 ahead of Baldur's Gate 3.) I just played the remaster, so it's fresh in my brain.

Why Control? Is that linked to Alan Wake?

The last DLC expansion for Control (AWE) has a direct link to Alan Wake.

Pretty much this, though even without that DLC, there are plenty of ties to Alan Wake (Jesse Faden's favorite poet is "Tom Zane" for example.)

You want a 90 minute catchup? Cause here it is

Mine will hopefully be faster than 90 minutes. Going to aim for under an hour. Script in progress!

Awesome!

Thank you. Eager to listen.

And the bonus episode is recorded! I somehow got this under 45 minutes. There are a TON of proper nouns in this series lol.

Somehow, Epic created a free "reimagined" version of Alan Wake 1 within Fortnite, to catch players up on the AW1 story.

I guess I need to hold off on the new Alan Wake as my "not too old" pc doesn't meet the minimal spec requirements.

I imagine the Nvidia GEForce now might be a possible solution here?

I quote Nvidia: "Game is currently not supported on GeForce NOW. Request to add game."

I saw this, so that might be already being remedied (EDIT: pun not intended, somehow.)

Just a reminder that low to medium overall detail will probably make the game look like it would look on the PS5/Series X. Hardly a blurry low poly mess.

Awesome, it's actually 44:30 minutes long

I promised I would get it under 45 minutes, and I kept to my word! Even had enough time to spare to add some intro and outro music.

Thank you for the summary. Terrific work. Such great games and universe.

Chad

The reviews are positively glowing! I am mad I have something early tomorrow, or I'd start streaming at midnight.

From GameSpot: "Calling a game ambitious can come with an implied caveat. A game with great ambition can be something that reaches high and far, but can also be one that doesn't quite get there. Alan Wake 2 is one of the most ambitious games I've ever played, but don't misconstrue that, as it doesn't fall short of its lofty goals. On the contrary, Alan Wake 2 achieves virtually everything developer Remedy Entertainment set out to do. It's a game that feels novel and risky that is executed with confidence and a clarity of vision. The end result is a one-of-a-kind sequel that redefines its series, blazes trails in video game storytelling, and stands as the monument to a studio that has unlocked its potential to the fullest."

Just FYI can get 18% off at GMG by going to the XP page and clicking the link for Bonus Voucher link that gives 18% off to any PC game.

Confirmed it applies to this game. Just note that it's a code for Epic store only. I'm guessing it's a timed exclusive.

If I didn't play Control, but I intend to, will I be heavily spoiled by this recording?

You absolutely will. I walk through the game beat by beat and the top of the episode goes into some background exposition about Control that the game dishes out slowly.

BUT, if you just want the Alan Wake 1 content, skip 3:30 to 5:01 (Or just start at 5:01). Then turn it off at 28:20. That should leave Control entirely unspoiled but recap all of Alan Wake and the Alan Wake DLCs for you.

Thank you sir!

The game looks really good and seems to run well on Xbox Series X- though I’ve had a couple instances of the audio dropping out and not returning until I reload a save.
The way they handle the mind palace stuff is f*cking wild and I’m hoping it doesn’t get too cumbersome as I get deeper into the game.
