I don't have anyone else to b*tch about this to, so you guys will have to suffer it.
I was reading this SI article, which tries to shoot down the idea that the Jets could use that 1st round pick that will no longer go to Green Bay in a trade for Cousins. Quote the article:
However, nobody on the desk considered this factor: the Jets’ 2024 first-round pick is currently tied up in the trade package that landed Rodgers in New York. The Jets only send that first-round pick to the Packers if Rodgers plays 65% or more of the offensive snaps this season. Otherwise, it is a second-round pick next year that gets dealt to Green Bay.
Obviously, Rodgers is out for the season, so it ultimately will be a second-round pick that the Packers receive as compensation. However, that aspect of the trade won’t become official until the start of the new league year next spring. So unless the trade compensation is reworked between Green Bay and New York (which is extremely unlikely), the Jets can’t trade their 2024 first-round pick like Scott suggests.
What boggles my mind is that the author understands this, but then somehow doesn't conceive of the possibility of the Jets and Vikings structuring their trade similarly, such that the 1st round pick doesn't become "official" until the new league year (when the terms of the Rodgers trade would resolve, freeing the pick back up).
Something like "Minnesota will receive New York's highest 2024 draft pick", or something like, "Minnesota will receive a 2024 1st round pick from the Jets. If they do not have one at the start of the league year, they will instead receive New York's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks in 2025" (or some other "poison pill" fallback scenario).
It's not like the trade logic needs to satisfy a mathematical proof either. All they need is the league office to say, "yes, that's fine". I'm certain the league office would work with the teams for terms that would satisfy whatever rule technicalities need to be satisfied to make the deal happen.
SI really does employ some of the worst sportswriters. 49ers coverage is absolutely unreadable thanks to Grant Cohn.
Didn't the Jets watch Cousins play last night?
Didn't the Jets watch Cousins play last night?
Cousins is 64/88 for 6 TDs and an INT that wasn't his fault, as a DB literally tore the ball out of the WRs hands last week. His two fumbles against the Bucs were the RG literally knocking the ball away at the snap, and getting pasted on a sack from an unblocked rusher about .7 seconds after the ball was snapped. Cousins is actually having a solid year so far, it's just that the Vikings defense in particular is a giant, screaming pile of crap right now.

As they were last year - 31st in the NFL in total defense, 28th in points yielded. Their mirage of a W-L record hid that fact, and now the bounce luck has regressed back towards the mean.

Sure, we could use those stats, but I'd rather say what the advanced stats say so I'm going to head over to Football Outsiders and . . . and . . .
Alright fine, let's hit up Aaron Schatz's FTN Football Almanac 2023 and see...
27th in defensive DVOA.
Advertisement I got on Instagram today:
The idea that a Kellen Mond jersey would cost $130 at any time is laughable enough, but now that he’s out of the NFL entirely, they should be giving these things away.
I think they're just trying to antagonize Drew Magary for shitting on them in this weeks Jamboroo.
I was trying to figure out why the Vikings had a jersey celebrating mono?
Am I the only one who is kinda interested in watching NYJ-DAL today? That Jets D looks really interesting and the possibility of Jerruh Tears is always tempting. Maybe I'm the weirdo that just wants to watch elite defense on display?
It's the biggest spread of the afternoon games, Dallas -8.5. Should be the least entertaining of the 4.

Sam Darnold to the Vikings confirmed.
The Bills are getting booed less than 5 minutes into the game.
The Bears look like the Bengals in those uniforms.
Jags-Chiefs is a little ragged.
Anthony Richardson's 3 TDs (and counting) is making Panther Fan a little nervous about the Tiny Bryce Young pick. Never mind that Richardson is playing the Texans.
Aaaand he's out with a concussion.
Cam Akers is a healthy scratch today, and rumored to be on the trade block.
My question is, who would trade for Cam Akers? Granted, I am an official member of the Akers Haters, and have always thought he was a scrub.
Justin Tucker missed a FG the first half. 59 yards, but still.
2/3 though, Ravens lead.
Baker Mayfield is everything anybody could have hoped for today, and, really, since the start of the second half last week. Today he's 19/26 for 273 yards and a TD to Mike Evans, who's got 5 catchers for 165 yards along with this TD. The Bucs are up 20-10, but, thanks to a few mistakes on their early drives resulting in just a FG and then a blocked FG along with some dumb defensive mistakes, it's only a 10 point game. The Bucs are really beating the hell out of the Bears, it's just not quite as visible on the scoreboard.
All I can say is if the Bucs continue to get to play defenses of the quality of the Vikings and Bears, Baker Mayfield is totally a viable QB.
The Raiders defense can't make a stop and Jimmy is pulling a Jimmy. Bills are rolling.
And Jared Goff throws an INT after 383 attempts.
Geno trying to kill clock by running backwards and taking a 17 yard sack on 3rd down.
I realize the Bears don't have a good team and the offensive line is bad, but, uh, Justin Fields is bad. It's endless schoolyard chaos that sometimes works, but he's just been so damn shaky and I don't think he'd know what pocket awareness was if he googled the term.
Or at least the poor people stuck watching Geno Smith vs Jared Goff.
TAMPA BAY 2-0 WHILE BAKING

Yeah, that was one of the silliest pick-sixes I've ever seen.
And lo the Chargers have Chargered.

Ravens 2-0.
