NBA 2023-24 Season Catch-All

This is the best part of the process. Next comes Harden breaking out the fat suit!

If he follows up the public statement with a new YouTube/Tiktok/Instagram foodie account where he actually eats all the food I'd follow it.

I don't like Harden much as a player or as a person but I do think he is not getting the credit he deserves for wanting off these teams. From the Nets he didn't want to stay and play with a selfish anti-vaxxer racist that showed he didn't care about his teammates. From the Sixers it is an open secret he had a handshake deal for his next contract when he signed last year and apparently Morey reneged on it. I don't blame him for wanting off either of these teams and I think he should be praised for standing up for his principles, not derided. In his situations I would want the same thing.

Also I should say that I kind of agree that I’m on Harden’s side on forcing his way out of the Nets. That team was a mess as seen by the way it eventually imploded.

I mostly think it was fine to force his way out of Houston. I think the way he did it was kind of disgraceful, but that situation had run its course and apparently the new ownership is kind of terrible.

And the Philly one I already mentioned. Sounds like it’s about money and a handshake deal gone bad. It’s a shame, because I think he kind of fits there and they have a chance with better coaching and a few more role players.

I kind of wondered after hearing that if his message was not “trade me” but rather “fire Daryl.”

Maybe actually considering how vocal it is?

Because otherwise you would assume Harden would be doing most of this via his agent as that's why you pay an agent.

Even if he's 100% in the right it still seems a bit odd to me for him to be the one directly making the statements.

Late, but I love that line:

"I know you weren't trying to be courageous when you hired me, but you did dos something nobody else in professional sports has ever done."

And she's 100% right. The best thing I can say about Pop is that he is a decent man.

Watching the USA showcase vs Germany. Down 8 at half. Sloppy play. A few guys I don't even recognize on the team. Is this really Olympics prep? Is this what we're doing without Coach K?

Looking up the roster several of these guys are G-League or free agents. What the hell?

Well tied it up at 5 minutes. Then both teams stuck on 86 for almost 3 minutes. We finally hit a 3. Got a nice stop. Got a steal transition bucket. Suddenly up 7 under a minute, we might win this.

Top players don’t want to play FIBA.

We make fun of LeBron for lying all the time but my GOD this is a whopper.

People call LeBron "LeFraud", but is there a bigger fraud than Enes Freedom?

tbf, I may have gotten buttcrack'd.

I thought the USA might lose in the FIBA Tournament.

........but to Germany?

Yeah I watched the 2nd half this morning. Down 10 for a long stretch. Finally made a run and cut it to 1 with a minute left.

Then gave up a 3 and couldn't get a quick answer. Time ran out

I caved and bought the $150 version. Haven’t played yet.

Why the $150 you ask?

It came with a subscription for the year to League Pass, which is a $100 value, and with the $100 version of the game. So it was a good value.

Broadly, I am firmly anti-pre-order and anti "BS bells and whistles," but that's a good deal, yeah.

Was pretty disappointed when Canada lost but this took the edge off.

Canada beating USA in the bronze medal game in OT with Dillon Brooks putting up 39 is chefs kiss.

LeBron back to the Olympic team to defeat the super villain.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I’ve been out on 2K for a few years, because I just don’t have the time to “git gud” at MP and that’s the only mode I played.

However, I was already going to pay $150 for League Pass. I do every year. So that basically makes this a free game to me.

So far I don’t have much to report. I’m mostly playing “play now” mode with classic teams. It’s notable to me that when I went to look up some tips on Reddit this game is getting flamed for the continuing degradation of the MyPlayer mode as 2K continues with their predatory micro transaction model. I’m very happy to be playing a free game to me where I only care about certain modes.

And on queue LeBron wanting to be part of 2024 Olympic team has been leaked.

Dillon Brooks going off for 39 against the US feels like a flashing warning sign about the US team’s construction, so I won’t be surprised if the Olympic team is completely different.

That construction being All The Good Players.

Last year I got League Pass for $50, so I am hoping they do the same deal this year since I don't have much interest in 2K.

lebron watched dillon brooks drop 40 on his country and immediately picked up the phone

Heaven help us all if Draymond somehow starts World War III during the Olympics.

Don't be silly. If we, as a country, were willing to allow Brittney Griner to rot in a Russian prison for nothing, we would roll over and hand over Draymond to whatever dictator wants him.

Spoiler:

Now, if John Stockton were playing we would go to war for him

The 2K series is amazing, as I totally get how Operation Sports can write both of these headlines.

Badge Regression and the Yearly NBA 2K24 Microtransaction Mess

NBA 2K24 Remains King of the Little Things

And I totally believe them in both instances! I know it's the only game in town, but as a offline Franchise person, NBA 2K is by far and away not only the best in its sport but arguably the best in sports games, period (non-OOTP/FM division).

It exists in the amazing duality of being unquestionably one of the best sports games year-on-year, and also an exploitative microtransaction sh*tstorm.

My impression of it so far is that most of the Microtransaction trash is in the "MyCareer" mode. You can still largely play exhibitions or seasons using normal teams and it's all above board for the most part. You can GM teams in the NBA and play full seasons of WNBA.

Unfortunately the most popular mode seems to be the "MyCareer" stuff where you can play pickup games online and some folks apparently pay up to $1000 a year on that. Notably streamers, who have made that mode really popular online.

My biggest beef with this game is that I tried a few of the current gen 2k games on Switch and they were basically unplayable to me, because you had to have an Internet connection. I only dipped back in this year with the free League Pass deal and after purchasing a PS5. I will never pay 2k money for a sports game on Switch knowing it probably won't work away from my Internet connection.

Huh. So, Dame to the Bucks then.

Dame is going to Milwaukee as part of a 3-team deal with the Blazers, Bucks and Suns, per
@ChrisBHaynes

This includes:
-Dame to Bucks
-Ayton, Jrue Holiday, and a first to Blazers
-Nurkic to Suns

Huh. Well, definitely gotta tune in to LeBatard tomorrow to hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth in Miami.

Pretty decent way for Milwaukee to convince Giannis they're serious about winning though.

I was like woah until I saw Holiday was part of the deal.

Should of kept Holliday over Middleton.
