De Bruyne to miss a bunch of time.
TBD how bad the Jurrien Timber news is. Injuries are coming in early this season.
Tyrone Mings, too.
And Chelsea's new forward, Nkunku. Didn't even make it to the start of the season before injuring his knee and needing surgery.
It's Spain's to lose, I think.
I don’t know I think Australia at home with Sam Kerr ( not the Scottish one) integrating back into the team could sneak it.
Too. Many. Games.
Yeah, and this was a summer interval without a major tournament, allowing players to get some actual rest. De Bruyne even skipped the national qualifying games due to the CL Finals injury.
Not sure if you have to rig a league with 29 teams for Messi.
By definition everything is diluted. Which is perfect. At this point a steady highlight reel of weekly Messi stuff is great. Only problem is it's just one notch above the Saudi League in that I'll watch the clips on social media but I'm not actually going to watch a game. (That's most leagues though)
I will watch the women's WC when it's not at an rough time. So nice to catch the second half today.
Tremendous controlling performance form England to come through the second Semi-Final 3-1 against Australia. They might not be playing their best football, but the Lionesses had a performance there that showed why they won the Euros, and look like a team that know how to win. There was no panic after Sam Kerr’s superb equaliser, they just got their heads down in an extremely partisan atmosphere and went out and got the goals they needed to see them through.
Should be a good final.
Oh and RE: United and the latest Mason Greenwood news....
Nah they knew exactly what they were doing. If he comes back, it’s that the women said yes. If he doesn’t, then it’s the women who get the blame for blocking it. They’re cowards who threw their women’s team under the bus for the sake of an abuser.
Squires on form on this one.
Reports that USWNT coach Andonovski has resigned.
You can't fire me, I quit
England the better team for sure but there was a chance to pinch it after Sam Kerr's magic.
TV ratings were extraordinary. 89% of all televisions were tuned to the match as well as streaming records being set and the uncountable live sites around the nation.
I'm sure in time the Women's game will be as cynical and hard-nosed as the men, but this tournament has offered up a great version of the game. No wonder it has struck a chord with the viewing public.

Pssssssssssst, hire Tobin Heath as your new coach, USWNT.
Maybe wait for the tournament to finish and then back up the money truck to Sarina.
She's under contract with The FA until 2025, but on the other hand, money truck.

That's bold. Going for the people who think Gregg was overqualified?
I wouldn't expect the FA to say anything else.
But if England win the World Cup this weekend and Sarina decides she's completed football (mate), wants a new challenge™ and says she won't sign an extension in '25 there's not really a choice left.
Hopefully instead she does win the World Cup and then decides the biggest challenge is defending the two titles and stays on.
Takes over from Southgate and leads the men to the world cup too.
I'm sad Sadio left Munich. Bayern could have had a front line of Sane, Mane and Kane.
There was a premier league game last night - Forest beat Sheffield United 2-1 but you would hardly know this as most football coverage last night has been the Women’s World Cup (which I regard as a very good thing) and the fact Harry Kane scored his debut goal for Bayern in the Bundesliga - which I find slightly more bemusing.
It wasn’t on TV either. In those circumstances I’d like to see the clubs able to show it - for free if they want to - on their own channels or YouTube. In the UK, the County Cricket teams will do this - show their games free on YouTube if they aren’t the game on Sky TV. The quality of the streams can be a bit hit and Miss but over all it’s a really good idea and they regularly get thousands of viewers.
Watching some of SWE-AUS before I nod off, and two things...
1.) The growth of the women's game is just awesome
2.) As an American, truly, we really underestimated how much the rest of the world has caught the f*ck up. Like, we're Brazil now. Still producing talented players, but riding significantly on rep/mythos.
Nobody is afraid to play you any more, that alone is going to ensure games are a lot harder in future.

It is difficult to explain to Americans how much women's soccer was not a "thing" anywhere in the world until very recently. Growing up in the UK in the 80s and 90s, I didn't know a single girl who played. Perhaps, pre-pubescent, you might have a very occasional tomboy who played for a boys team, but that was it. Girls did not play soccer, in the same way that boys don't play field hockey in the U.S.
So the United States has been operating with a massive headstart for 25+ years, but that's been eroded now. One of the most interesting things about the World Cup is the parity - how there are multiple world-class teams that can compete, not just two or three. And domestically, the NWSL is still the deepest league in the world, but a couple of the Euro sides - Lyon, Barcelona, maybe Chelsea - are better than the top U.S. sides now.
It's a changing landscape, and it's hard to imagine the U.S. dominating again.

In other news, two of my fantasy-league players have been sent off today. Joy.

If one of those was Mac Allister, I think it'll get rescinded on appeal. It was a very soft Red Card. In fairness, I think the Ref was compensating for the Penalty he awarded, as that was also what I would call "soft".
It seemed to galvanise Liverpool though.
Yes, one of them was Mac Allister. Probably the worst red-card decision I've ever seen.
The other was Tim Ream, which I also thought was a very harsh red, although less likely to be overturned.
Wrexham's league games are being scripted for the documentary now.
Spurs were excellent today, love to see ManU lose!
