[News] They indicted!

Sorry about this post. I tend to wax fatalistic when I discuss politics. This was not a good post. I am most likely wrong about all of this. This rant has little to do with the topic at hand. This is about Donald Trump's being charged criminally. I don't believe he will be convicted. No president of the US will ever go to prison.

You don't have to be sorry, you're right. This republic is in its death throes. Possibly the wrong thread for it, that's all.

I don't think the feds will put him in jail, but Fani Willis might.

But what will happen when he refuses to go?

Someone once said history doesn’t repeat, it rhymes, so may I suggest perhaps a low speed chase in this:

And Kim Kardashian will end up representing him.

I still want Trump to be the first ex president to claim asylum in a hostile foreign country.

Okay one last small comment and I'll shut up:

The conditions for democracy no longer exist. No real "free" press. No real elections, no informed populace. No desire from the people to fight for our rights or some grand ideal of democracy. Our collective vision and ability to plan for anything beyond the next day, the next month, the next financial quarter. All dead.

The future has no collective consideration. Not for the working class, not the politicians, not the one percent, not the scientists or the preppers.

That's why Donald Trump has such power. We desire only for a collective punishment. Our fellow Americans, the illegal immigrants, the other. Crabs in a bucket. A few exploit this. We mostly crave "punishment" for our dismal circumstance.

The only thing we can hope for is some sort of government that can restore some sort of shared ideal of "justice".

We won't get it.

I think you've just described the entirely of the last two hundred years of American political history.

You're mourning something that's never been true.

I think that is doing a disservice to the great movements of the past in the US. Abolition, women's suffrage, workers' rights and protections, civil rights; all of these were fairly grand in scope and ambition in looking to improve the lives of the people and make our nation better.

And all of them were restrained or hollowed out almost immediately by conservatives in the judiciary as soon as they were able to, and with this supreme court, things are only going to ratchet downward for the next 50 years. Someone who hasn't even been conceived yet is going to be fighting for climate change regulations in the 2070s and get lol'd out of the room by judges from a twice-impeached con man.

So Trump's lawyer argued that he should be able to move the venue for the DC indictment to West Virginia because it offers a more "diverse jury pool".

West Virginia is 98% white.

He's allergic to being judged by black people I guess.

And he committed the crime in DC. I don't get to beat up a Yankees fan and then demand that my jury come from Boston.

Ah....Fenway, the only park where regardless of which team the Red Sox are playing there will be the inevitable "Yankees Suck" chant.

Lol. I was at the Orioles v. Mets at Camden last weekend and the METS fans started the "Yankees suck" cheer in the middle of the 8th inning when it was clear that they weren't going to beat our bullpen down 3 runs.

Also the Mets park.

Special counsel obtained search warrant for Trump's Twitter account:

The search was so secret that Twitter was barred from telling Trump the search warrant had been obtained for his account, and Twitter was fined $350,000 because it delayed producing the records sought under the search warrant.

The special counsel’s office, which is now working on the criminal case against Trump in DC District Court related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, sought the warrant in January 2023.

It'd be a real shame if conservatives left Twitter en masse because of this.

sought the warrant in January 2023.

So that's why the name changed. "We're X now, we don't have any 'Twitter' accounts."

GA grand jury returns 10 indictments; awaiting unsealing. Should be released in the next 1-3 hours.

No indictments were voted down.

19 people, including Trump, charged in GA election probe. 98 pages, 41 charges.

So how many points will he jump in the polls?

This would have been a good time for Georgia to have Stacey Abrams as its governor instead of a Republican who'll probably follow Ron DeSantis' example and gut the Fulton County DA's office.

A+++ photo choice of the judge, CNN.

I really can't believe I was right. The rest of the Republican field has to be hoping he'll get disqualified, and then they can all race to say who's going to pardon him the hardest. It's the only chance they have.

Is there a pool going for which of the 18 indicted co conspirators will turn state's witness first?

I got Rudy +450

I would say it would be easiest to pressure Harrison Floyd or Trevion Kutti because the GOP always hangs the black man out to dry, but both Jeffery Clarke and Mark Meadows have that "I wouldn't do well in prison" scared Female Doggo face.

From CNN

Prosecutors in Georgia have aggressively investigated former President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn his 2020 election defeat in the hotly contested state.

In shocking phone calls, Trump privately pressured Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and another official to “recalculate” the numbers and “find” enough votes to let him win.

Frustrated by the lack of fraud investigations, Trump ousted the US attorney in Atlanta. On the day Congress was set to certify the Electoral College results, Trump held an incendiary rally and incited a mob of supporters to attack the Capitol, temporarily delaying the process.

After the insurrection was quashed later that night, the electoral votes were counted and Biden officially became President-elect.

Here's a timeline of some of Trump's efforts to try to overturn the election in the state:

December 29: Raffensperger announces that the audit in Cobb County found no evidence of fraudulent mail-in voting.

Trump says Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and Raffensperger are “stupid,” and calls on them to “allow us to find the crime, and turn the state Republican.” He complains about the signature-matching inquiries. Trump also promotes a conspiracy theory that Raffensperger’s brother works for the Chinese government.

December 30: Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani speaks to a Georgia state Senate subcommittee about alleged election irregularities. Kemp rebukes Giuliani’s conduct during the hearing.

Trump says Kemp “should resign from office.”

January 2: In an hour-long private phone call, Trump pressures Raffensperger to “find” the exact number of votes needed to overturn Biden’s victory. Trump also suggests to Raffensperger that he should publicly announce that he “recalculated” the election results. Raffensperger tells Trump that the election results were accurate. During the call, Trump also criticizes the US attorney in Atlanta, Byung Pak, calling him a “Never Trumper” without any evidence. CNN later reported that the call occurred after 18 previous attempts by the White House to call Raffensperger’s office. CNN obtained the audio below from a source who was on the call and had direct knowledge of the conversation. Read the full transcript here.

January 3: Trump tweets about the call, saying Raffensperger was “unwilling, or unable” to answer questions about alleged fraud in Georgia. In response, Raffensperger says Trump’s claims are “not true” and that “the truth will come out.” Later, The Washington Post publishes the full recording of the phone call.

January 4: On the eve of Georgia’s special Senate election, Trump holds a rally in Dalton, Georgia, where he pledges to campaign against Kemp and Raffensperger if they run for reelection in 2022. He also falsely claims the election was “rigged” against him.

January 5: A federal judge rejects an attempt by Trump’s campaign to decertify the election results in Georgia.

January 6: Trump mentions “Georgia” 20 times at a rally near the White House. He cites conspiracy theories about alleged irregularities and says election officials “should find those votes” needed to overturn Biden’s victory. He falsely claims Raffensperger and Kemp are “corrupt” and “defrauded us out of a win.”

During the speech, Trump urges the crowd to “fight like hell” and march to the US Capitol to pressure Vice President Mike Pence and lawmakers to block the Electoral College proceedings. Trump supporters storm the Capitol and violently disrupt the formal proceedings to certify Biden’s victory.

After the insurrection is quelled, several House Republicans unsuccessfully try to challenge Georgia’s slate of electors, falsely alleging that the election was “fraudulent.” Georgia’s electoral votes are counted and Biden officially becomes the President-elect.

Mark Meadows practically ran to the feds to turn states for the Jan 6 coup attempt. My guess is he flips for Georgia before I can finish typing this post.

Even if someone flips. What are they going to say that we don't already know? It's not like any of this was done under a cloak of secrecy. They did it right out in the open and in front of the cameras.

It’s like that scene from the Untouchables. Everybody knows about all the crimes. Nobody wants to cross Capone (Trump).

It’s been obvious for years he should be in jail and sold out this country in a myriad of ways.

Apparently the only true words out of Trumps mouth was when he said he could shoot someone and his support would go up.
