NFL 2022: The Week 16 thread

Brett Rypien and Dalton Risner almost getting into a fight on the sideline yesterday. Apparently Rypien was telling Risner to help Wilson get up when he was down and Risner misunderstood and thought Rypien was trashing the OL. Oof.

I just saw Mac Jones latest dirty play….how is he going to avoid getting suspended for this latest one?

He purchased the Patriot Shield(tm) protection package.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but Tua is in concussion protocol again.

Was only half watching the game this weekend and didn't even notice. Caught the replay of the play in question. Looked like a routine play where Tua goes down like a sack of potatoes but doesn't brace for the fall at all and takes it all to the back of his head.

People can argue for against him all they want but I'm not sure if Tua is going to be in the NFL long at this rate. Not trying blame/shame him at all but he will need to learn to avoid breaking his brain ASAP.

A few of my broncos fan buddies are celebrating the end of the Hackett era and predicting that Sean Payton will be head coach by January.

Why the hell would anyone want the job though?

Sketchy head office, washed QB with a massive contract, zero draft capital, and an entire defense leaving in free agency. Sounds like exactly the sort of garbage fire I’d expect a premium coaching talent to go to.

I'm not buying Sean Payton to the Broncos either.

There's a good chance the Chargers dump Staley. Payton could have Justin Herbert to design an offense around.

The Cardinals are probably dumping Kliff. Kyler has question marks, but there's a lot more talent to try and salvage there than with an aging Russ.

Indianapolis doesn't have a QB but they'll have the draft capital to chase one. Likely a top 5 pick, plus extra 2nd and 3rd round picks from trading Wentz (lol Washington).

Houston, same as Indy, but even more draft capital. #1 overall pick, plus an extra 1st and extra 3rd, and an extra 2024 1st (lol Cleveland). And Easterby is gone.

And that's assuming Dallas doesn't just dump Mike McCarthy and open up Jerruh's checkbook to make an offer Payton can't refuse. A wild card weekend upset loss by Dallas, and this one probably jumps to the top of the list.

Hackett is not a bad OC by any stretch. I’d like to see my Ravens pick him up and dump Greg Roman.

Maybe, just maybe, the Dolphins are terrible at minding potential concussions to their players in-game.

Considering the play in question happened in the first half, you may be onto something.

Would you like a gently used Byron Leftwich? If you're a fan of repeated failed runs into the middle of the defense and not using play action, do I have an offer for you.

Tampa is barely bothering to run the ball. They're 1st in pass attempts (by a LOT) and 31st in rush attempts.

And when I say "by a lot", I mean they have 672 pass attempts. Second place has 605. The league median is 509. They have more than double the pass attempts of last place Chicago, but only 4 more passing TDs than Chicago.

Tampa is 1st in total plays run (is Leftwich possessed by the soul of Chip Kelly?), and 25th in yards per play. They're 26th in scoring drive percentage, and 28th in points scored.

Such a weird, insanely unbalanced offense.

WEEK 17, short and sweet.

I left y'all plenty of room to talk about:

* Why Brian Burns Was Right About Mac Jones
* The Return of Josh Norman to Carolina
* Why OBJ Loves His Couch More than Football
* Why the Panthers Will Embarrass Themselves on Sunday (it feels a lot like Pittsburgh Week)
* Are the Vikings Any Good?
* Why Sean Payton Won't Take Any of the Available Coaching Gigs (except maybe Phoenix because it's warm there)
