NCAA Basketball 2022-2023 Catch-all

Maybe. You and I though can come up with 2 teams that won't be doing this

They were showing Kevin Keatts stats last month, talking about how previous NCSU coaches had losing records in the game immediately after a win against Duke or UNC. Like they get up for that game then celebrate then aren't ready for the next one. But he's actually 4-1 or something.

Could be hangover like that for Duke too with new coach. Or maybe Miami is actually good this year

Miami had a pretty stellar run last tournament too, making it to the Elite 8. They ALSO had Kansas on the defensive in the first, but ran out of gas in the 2nd. They've got almost NO size, but they more than handled Duke's 7' folk. Their backcourt is quick, and they have a decent bench. I wouldn't be shocked if they make another reasonable run.

For certain. There've been a number of teams that have gone hot and cold. Houston and Purdue are probably the best overall. Tennessee has shown lots of mettle as well, but is seemingly susceptible to offensive freeze outs. Alabama, Arizona, UCLA, Texas, K-State, TCU... I mean, it's definitely shaping up to be any given night + alignment of the moon + what someone had for breakfast = unexpected outcome.

Should make for an entertaining NCAAT, provided I get over UNC either not making it at all (after those lofty goals from the pre-season) or getting roflstomped in the first round!

Sometimes good teams have bad or down years.. rebuilding... whatever...

Could you imagine being a fan of this though?

I missed the game as i was ferrying my wife to an overnight appointment about 90 min away... apparently I didn't miss much of value. Outscoring your opponent by 15 in the 2nd half sounds great, until you learn that the deficit was ~22.

Sigh.

All expectations are out the window at this point. I'll be happy if they win a couple of the remaining games... maybe we can win for the seniors in the last home game... against Duke.

Welp.

Can't have nice things.

Holy sh*t. ESPN app just alerted me to buzzer beater in Nashville.

UT had a freshman get a steal for a potential dunk or foul on the attempt with a few seconds to go, and he deferred to run clock. UT wasn't in the bonus, and our senior that never misses free throws in the final 2 minutes of games...missed the first of a 1 and 1. That dunk would have sealed it.

Oh well.

#4 Arizona is playing in Berkeley tonight. They are 19 point favorites and -2400 on the moneyline.

They should be able to beat us with their walk ons.

That being said,if its close at the half, the fact that if they lose to us literally may take them from a lock to make the tourney to off the bubble suddenly make the game must watch TV as Arizona starts to think the walls are closing in on them, and they start to fold under pressure.

Nah, still haven't convinced myself to watch a minute of this team.

Yes I enjoyed that.
Edit. You meant the 111 loss thing, I meant UK losing and being on the wrong side of the bubble

Cards going to get destroyed at Miami tonight though

Thankfully the season is only like 40 games.. or I'm pretty sure Cal would most definitely end up with a worse record than 14-111.

UNC decided to show up and thrashed visiting Clemson. I wish this team would play like that more often.

Duke gets robbed with a blown no-call in the final second of regulation, which forced OT. UVA pretty much ran the show from that point.

Yeah screw Duke but that was awful.

1 definitely a foul
2 definitely before time expired
3 UVA home cooking started the clock before ball was in Duke hands so it really really happened before time expired

Yeah, that was absolutely abysmal officiating. They clearly didn't want to take the responsibility, and decided to just "let em keep playing".

Add it to the list of blown calls this season.

Your CBB ending of the day.

Oh yeah saw that one posted 4 or 5 times on Twitter and I keep watching it.

Meanwhile, in less happy news in New Mexico:

New Mexico State men's basketball has canceled Saturday's game at Cal Baptist and suspended its season indefinitely following "new allegations" within the program, according to a statement from the school.

The new allegations involve multiple players being allegedly investigated for their role in hazing attacks on a teammate on more than one occasion, Stadium reported.

The school said in the statement that the new allegations have prompted an investigation by the university and led to the coaching staff being put on paid administrative leave.

Mind you, one of their players shot a dude earlier this season (albeit, allegedly in self-defense) and that didn't stop the season so the details on this must be horrifying.

Well Cards led #19 Miami by as many as 3 late in the first half and trailed by 1 at half. But they lose by 8.

Of course they came out and got down 10-0 in the first 2:19 of the game. So maybe show up ready to play and you could actually beat some teams...

Yeah, I figured the rules accommodated that scenario already. Doesn't help Duke after the fact though.

Northwestern just earned their 1st win against an AP No. 1 team in program history, defeating Purdue 64-58.

Northwestern entered Sunday 0-19 against AP No. 1 teams, the 2nd-most losses without a win in D-I history (Washington State: 0-27)

This NCAA tournament should be absolutely bonkers considering everyone STINKS. EVERYONE.

I guess Wash St got rolled by UCLA a bunch of times in the Wooden days.

Yeah Purdue looks great then goes 0-2 this week. Anybody's tournament.

Pretty much. It should mean a lot of the 4/13, 5/12, 6/11, 7/10, and 8/9 matchups are rife with "upsets" from a seeding perspective.

The 1/16s and 2/15s will probably be more skewed towards the top end (given the teams that will be there).

Still, will we see another St Peters this year? Who knows!

[checks box score]
... UNC goes 5-31 from 3pt range.

That's... ~16%? Yeah. Alllllrighty.

Hit 3 more to make it 8-31, and it's just almost an abysmal 26%.... and WE WIN.

I just can't even with this team this year. So much talent, and yet can't seem to throw it in the FREAKING OCEAN some nights.

I don't understand my team.

Yeah that was something.

Cards led UVA by as many as 9. Trailed by as many as 10. Lost by 3.

Had the ball with 30 seconds and dribbled around the perimeter until they finally shot a contested off-balance 3 with 5 sec left. A team and coach with no idea how to win. It's painful to watch.

I think I'll enjoy March Madness more, without this ugly team on my TV

I feel you on the last second losses.

I really don't know what's going to happen Saturday with Tennessee going to UK. We beat the number 1 team last night with two key starters out, but lose to Vandy and Missouri on last second shots that were only possible due to our senior guard, who's been a lock his whole career in end game free throws, missed fronts of one and ones.

I watched that ending. You could tell no one wanted to be The Guy That Missed in the final seconds. :/

Harsh.

I also saw Tennesee's victory. I tell ya, being #1 is cursed this season. Cursed!

March Madness selection preview on CBS!

1 Alabama, Houston, Purdue, Kansas
2 Texas, Arizona, Baylor, UCLA
3 Tennessee, Virginia, Iowa St, Kansas St
