I've had some suspicious matches recently. One match I wasn't drawing cards and I lost 8 points even though I obviously wouldn't have snapped and another one my opponent played 12 energy worth of cards on turn 6 and I couldn't tell how.
I hate to automatically assume cheating, but I think it's cheating. I'm sure there is a market for accounts with all the cards unlocked.
The Marvel Snap help desk is really good. I submitted a report for a game a while back where I thought there was something fishy going on and it ended up being some Agent 13, Raft + ?, combo that made sense. They were really helpful in investigating and explaining! So I recommend reporting the weird stuff you see
Loving this game my level just crossed 1000 and I have just hit level 70 for the first time. Sunspot with she hulk and the infinaut are working wonders together.
Mr. Doom
Obligatory "I didn't spend 6 years in Evil Medical School to be called 'Mister!'"
LastSurprise wrote:I've just picked up Mister Negative (swap power & cost of all cards in your deck -- so I can make some cards cost 0) and Jane Foster / Thor (draw all cards with cost 0), and I'm trying to build a deck around that. Been tricky so far, though. Either you have to get the draws in exactly the right order for the deck to work well, or I don't have enough other good cards to fit this, yet.
My Mr. Negative Deck has Adam Warlock, Angela, Psylocke, Iron Heart, Bishop, Venom, Wolfsbane, Jubilee, Iron Man, Blue Marvel and Jane Foster. I have swapped cards around some but that deck has been the most succesful. Forge, Gambit, and Nakia were good in it too. I did have Mr. Doom in it at one point since he is the only 6 cost card that has a lower power to cost.
The perfect turn 1 pull is Psylocke, Mr Negative, and Jane Foster + any card that doesn't have 0 power. Play Psylocke on turn 2, then Mr. Negative, then Jane on turn 5. The perfect pull never happens. If Jane is still in the deck when I play Mr. Negative I will play Adam Warlock where ever he is useful just to get more negative cards in my hand. If I don't have Mr. Negative by turn 3 or 4 then I'll play Jubilee and hope she pulls him. If nothing goes your way, you still have cards that sync well. Angela, Iron Heart, Wolfs Bane, Bishop and Blue Marvel are early cards that synergize stomp.
That sounds like a great combo, but features a bunch of cards I don't yet have (Adam Warlock, Psylock, Venom in particular). I'll have to mess with this deck some more once I get them.
But yeah, agree with some of your others. I love turning Iron Man into a 0-cost, 5-power (effectively, 10 power) card.
I'm really feeling the issues with the late game upgrade path right now, having spent a bunch of time struggling to do some daily missions matched up against seemingly everyone with a Doctor Doom, Ghost Rider, Death, Sera, and Black Panther, none of which I have, only to be rewarded with an Odin variant and an avatar of "Patriot." Great, game, thanks a ton, isn't this the xenophobe murder guy from that Falcon show?
That’s US Agent, though one of the characters that becomes Patriot in the comics does appear in the show, as the son of the old ex-marine Sam meets with.
Ah, OK, well, still, not a character I'm inclined to make my avatar, especially when I got a boss like Forge for free.

Yeah there’s always posts on Snap Reddit claiming something impossible happened and there’s almost always an explanation. There are so many interactions in the game. Not that a bug or cheating is impossible but I think they’re much less likely an explanation.
Still holding my interest after a few days. Dipping in and out for 15 minutes here and there ideal.
When you're all discussing levels... There are 3 I can see...
Cube level, collector level and season level? Right. The main one being the cube level which dictates the quality of opponent you're playing. At level 18 am assuming a fair few ai opponents still in there? Those with the basic Tom, Dick and Harry names.
Excuse my ignorance on things I might ask, trying not to look at guides and experiment and learn in game. Chit chatting here doesn't count against that obviously!

That’s right the cube level is an mmr type system and the lower levels seem to have lots of bots. The collector level keeps you playing with people who have access to the same sort of card pool as you and the season level is just a battle pass thing although there is quite a bit of stuff at the free level. Hope your having fun.

I am yeah, thanks!
I played a fair bit of Hearthstone in the early days. I could never really get back into it because of the time commitment. This is simpler and much quicker so a decent alternative these days.
This game...
I started playing about 1.5 months ago. I reached rank 70 at the end of last season, so I started this season at rank 40. I managed to climb back up to 70 and a few ranks beyond. In the process, though, there was a significant point at which I really improved my ability to read the opponent's plays and also became smarter at when and when not to "snap." In other words, I got better at the game.
But then I stopped gaining ranks. Hours of play, going up and down in cube gain and ending up right about where I started when I began playing. Second Dinner hasn't published much about their ranking system, but it seems a far bit is known through what they have said, through conjecture based on them being former Hearthstone devs, etc. Essentially, you gain more rank by beating players higher ranked than you. Unlike a lot of other games, however, you don't get anything extra by beating someone higher ranked than you. The cube gain is always the same.
So, if you're someone like me, you got significantly better at the game in a short period of time, you can kind hit a wall. I'm facing players that have already hit infinite (100) rank this season and some clearly have past seasons as well. It just kind of feels bad, because it feels purposeful. It feels like they want people to get stuck on the ladder and be driven to spend money.
I like the Marvel theme, the art and the game play, but I have ended up with mixed feelings about the game. It's not just the matchmaking/ranking. They are heavily investing in "manufactured discontent" like most mobile F2P games. The card acquisition slows to such a crawl it's a little ridiculous. And their statement that they would only monetize cosmetics has not really turned out to be true. A recent bundle and an upcoming one include variants of very powerful cards you can buy with cash. Yes, they are variants, but you do not need the original card to buy the bundle. Not really "cosmetics only." And the gambling mechanic being so central (the game is named after it) is maybe a bit gross.
I don't know that I am totally done with the game at this point, but the honeymoon is definitely over and my eyes are opened. I guess what I am feeling is disappointment. I thought this was more different than other CCGs than it is, I thought it was more "friendly" than it is. Based on one's expectations, I realize one could have a very different experience than mine. I'm almost a little embarrassed to recount all this, but I wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone approach the game with the right mindset.
I hate Leader. I get it, on turn six you are not going to have another turn to counter anything your opponent does, but how the hell is "Do everything they do plus 5" balanced? I know it has it's limitations, but I don't think it's enough.

It is quite funny, though, when he unwittingly copies a Destroyer.
Steinkrug, thank you for the post. You’re further along in the game than I am. Your experience is similar to others finding discontent with the game at higher levels. Such a shame the developer is going down this path.
No problem. Not saying don’t play the game, but just know what you’re in for. And there’s a lot of feedback coming from the community so hopefully there will be positive changes in the future.
Thanks steinkrug, I am starting to experience some of what you describe. I am at level 82 and I feel I am missing a few important cards to make some of my decks pop notably Death, Dracula and the silver surfer. I am still climbing albeit slower mostly thanks to an ultron card spam deck and my aforementioned infinaut deck. That feels like it’s because I lucked into a few of the powerful cards though.I can feel some pressure on if ways of buying specific cards appeared. I still love the core game so won’t be quitting but as an avowed avoider of micro transactions I can see the progression part of the game dying for me.
Edit: oh yeah and Wong I don’t have Wong and they are just ridiculous.
Last page Laars recommended Cosmo to deal with Wong, but between then and now I've come to rely on Rogue (outside of my Destroyer deck, which has Cosmo), because I think she has much more utility. She's in pretty much every deck I have to deal with Wongs, but also Iron Mans, Punishers, Caps, Kazaars, Blue Marvels, and Devil Dinosaurs. And I no longer f*ck around--once Wong gets played, so does she.
Yeah I guess it’s good that the rank rewards are not all that special. Helps one make the decision to not care that much about reaching Infinity.

This is where I am. I like the game because of all the variety. There is nothing of value to me in the ranks. That being said, what they are charging for stuff is insane. $30 for a few varients and a profile pic? A monthly season pass that gets you 2 cards? for $10!? I did buy the Miles Morales season pass because I love Miles, and to see if it was worth it to me. I learned real quick it isn't. But I am here for some Frog Thor, Man Thing, or Damage Control.
I built an ongoing deck featuring a dangerous Thyroid Mary that slaps.
The past 2 months I’ve bought the season pass. I think $10 for the amount of time I’ve been playing is fair.
I have a new favorite card: Leech. I really enjoy watching my opponent set up their well laid plans, waiting to play that final piece to trigger the cascade of actions and then rage retreating once Leech comes out

Which is funny because I just had someone play Leech and essentially buff Typhoid Mary. But of course they then played f#cking Leader. What am I supposed to do with that?

I’ve definitely ran into some red skulls and destroyers where leech backfired
I'd probably buy the season pass if it ran for longer than a month. I'd probably play enough to justify it over the course of 2 months. I definitely don't play enough within one month, but I would feel a bunch of pressure to play more, and guilty if I didn't, which would probably make me drop the game.
What's sort of weird to me is that I'm collection level 205, but still feel like I don't have enough, or maybe the right kinds, of cards to do a lot of deck building. I've got an Odin deck, and a 1-cost Kazar deck, and I could build an Onslaught deck. But for any other mechanic that I think I could build a deck around, I don't have enough cards that use it to actually make a deck. Maybe I'm just not creative enough, or not seeing the possibilities.

If you have Taskmaster or Destroyer those are fun cards to have your opponent use Leader on.

205 is fairly low but you should be able to build a destroy/discard deck with Apocalypse and a move deck with Heimdall. If you are still missing one of those you will have them by 214 as that’s the end of Series 1.
Oh also Moon Girl/Devil Dinosaur.
I've seen this information and these sentiments elsewhere, but this Hoogland video contains what is probably the most important stuff to know about playing Snap (ignore clickbait title):
I seem to have entered the land of endless Wong/Black Panther/Zola decks

Yup I have hit the mid 90s just by adding Cosmo and rogue to my decks. If you can screw those interactions up you will go far. Incidentally i just got Wong so if you could avoid doing it to me please that would be great.
