Marvel Snap - Catch-all

I refined my Patriot deck a bit and it's getting wins again, and based on this:

As for Galactus decks, Debrii pretty reliably counters them unless they’re playing Killmonger. It helps that they’re so freaking predictable.

I added Debrii, and you know what's great? Seeing a Galactus play incoming. Dropping her and the veeeeeerrryyyy looooong next turn where they try get out of that hole.

I don't know which is better, that or playing Debrii the same turn as their Galactus when you have first reveal.

played a few matches with Nebula replacing Sunspot in my control deck and I think she’s going to be a very popular card

I added Nebula to my Magik She-Naut deck last night to great success, only to wake up this morning to find that prominent stream guy Hoogland had told everyone "Nebula works great in this deck that utilizes Magik to allow you to play She-Hulk and Infinaut on the final turn!"

Anyone else finding climbing to be significantly harder than previous seasons? Last season I hit infinite in a few days. Currently I'm sitting at 67. I don't care what deck I use I can't get any kind of momentum going. As soon as I feel good about my hand, they will drop it's counter. Getting pretty frustrated. Thinking dropping it, but I enjoy the game a lot once I can just have fun. I would honestly considering paying for infinite at this point.

Well this is the first season since the new “lock your MMR once you hit infinite” change. Meaning when you they deflate your cosmetic rank each season you’re still playing infinite level players from an MMR perspective, just at level 60 instead of 100. In past seasons because you can’t lose infinite cosmetic rank, you could just play whatever decks, tank your hidden MMR, and make the climb back way easier (not saying you did that, just that your season end MMR was probably not the same as your infinite MMR)

I’ve never hit infinite but I play at a near infinite MMR so I’m usually seeing a lot of infinite card backs despite being at rank 44. Happened to me last season to the point I wanted to quit. But eventually all the infinite players reach infinite and then play in their separate infinite pool and it was much easier to climb in the second half of the season.

But don’t get me started on my “matchmake by rank and not MMR in a game with poker bluffing mechanics” soapbox

I didnt intentionally tank my MMR but I never cared about winning, or more accurately gaining cubes after infinite. I would only snap when I thought I would lose as a way of saying good job, and I ended last season around 130. Not sure of how I'm playing differently now.

I just played 4 games in a row where they played Enchantress on the same turn and lane as my Darkhawk. WTF?

yeah I thought it felt like something changed last season, normally I shoot up the ranks pretty quickly but I ended last season within ten ranks of where I started. I just chalked it up to the fact that I’ve been getting a little bored with my old decks and would try out a new one practically every day.

Too soon for me to tell, because last season was f*cken brutal for me. The season before I'd managed 60, then last season for about 3 weeks I couldn't pay to get to 40, and only made a little progress at the end. At least right now I'm facing a lot of bots who can be beat by even really terrible Negative hands.

Not sure I get too bogged down in the climb, level 60 is nice for the varient but the rewards atually aren't that exiciting.

This season does seem to be a bit tougher, but I'm enjoying playing the game still.

Still we get some interesting people playing this game. Top tip, if you play Patriot, and the board is already full of one cost cards due to yourself and locations, then your oppenent snaps, might be an idea to realise they either have Enchantress or Killmonger, or in my case both plus turn 5 Sera.

Not to pile onto the Galactus dunking, that's one of the latest symptoms of a big issue I have with whining and weird notions of decorum in the larger Snap community, but I did have a pretty funny match where I did, indeed, dunk on a Galactus, or at least I was poised to.

I was working with one of my trademark Bad Negative Hands. Opponent filled Bar Sinister with Wolverines, a lane I was avoiding, and truthfully, I expected a Destroyer to follow their Wave on turn 4. So, they snap, and on the open lane goes Galactus, filling the lane with Wolverines. Except I had played Magik, giving me 2 turns to deal with their now full lane. It was going to be Iron Man and Jane, but I snapped, and they gave me the Deadpool emote and fled. At least they took it in good humor, and I got a laugh.

I had the new Iron Lad card dropped into my hand by a location tonight and I immediately bought him afterwards. He’s perfect for Patriot decks since he can also copy blank cards and receive the Patriot buff, but I’ve tried him in several decks and he just seems to work really well wherever I put him. Best new card in ages.

I'm thinking about getting him instead of High Evo. If Jeff wasn't power creep, he def is. Essentially an Absorbing Man and Mystique in one card with 6 power? Once Howard is released I feel like he is going to be the next hated card.

Iron Lad does seem to have come into the world wearing a "In Need of an OTA Adjustment" shirt.

I intentionally tanked my rank down into the 40s because trying to climb was stressing me out and making me hate the game. It worked to make me stop stressing about the game and I thought I would start to play against easier players/bots but that must not be a thing. I am still losing just as much and anytime I am in the lead they retreat, so none of my wins are satisfying because they don't have the turn 6 payoff. It's not even about cube gain, but about having matches come to a satisfying end. Sometimes a loss feels better than a 1 cube retreat win. I think I may have squeezed all of the serotonin I can out of this game, but there are still cards and splits I want. Maybe I'll just log in once a day to complete my dailys from now on.

yeah you basically need to either design your decks for huge turn 6 plays or just put up with never being able to finish a match. I feel like it’s been that way since at least the Modok season.

I think it would be fun to play some friendly matches against some of you. Would anyone be interested?

Until they fundamentally change how the ranked mode works or introduce a new mode there's no reason for people to stay in games they've lost. It's poker mechanics. You don't stay in hands with a 3, 8 off suit.

They did say in the latest patch they're tweaking matchmaking so curious what that will mean for how games feel.

Despite your cosmetic rank being 40, your hidden MMR rank takes much longer to tank so you're still probably high up in the 80's hidden MMR wise. Another reason why the format is kind of annoying. Your hidden MMR that makes you games is based on W-L (typically, they haven't revealed the specifics but that's what most games do) and then your rank is based on poker luck pushing mechanics. Just makes the whole thing unsatisfying since increasing your rank is more about being cube optimal than win optimal

I wouldn't mind trying that mode out, time permitting. Especially if it gives me a reprieve from facing the same smug-ass Bounce decks I've been facing all afternoon oh, wow, you Icemaned me 3 times, Yondued 4 of my cards, and then played Bishop, Mysterio and Hit Monkey, what an elegant, gentlemanly, giant brained play you made by watching the same Hoogland video we all saw, so much less predictable than that low-born Galactus.

As I've said, I should probably avoid the reddits. But I won't.

I'd be down for some friendlies. I'm running a Lockjaw deck with Quick Silver and Domino I saw on reddit. It's even less stressful because it takes a lot of the skill out of my hands.

Can’t decide if the way they re-released Kitty Pryde by silently dropping her into everyone’s card inventory was meant to be thematic for her character or they just didn’t feel like making a custom announcement like they did for all the other gifted cards.

Kitty rules, though. I do wish I could have used the original version like I intended, but I'm glad she's back, and I'm up 6k tokens, I guess, because collecting like I do, the data mined July season looks brutal:

Spoiler:

Jean Grey, Mirage, and Legion? sh*t.

This is the sort of thing I went to the reddits for, but coming from the general pleasantness and conviviality of the FFXIV reddit, the Snap one has been a sobering experience. As soon as the Shuri nerf came down (which, full disclosure, was the one "meta" deck I could field at the time), like a zombie horde they all turned their ire on Galactus, and right now they're up in arms because Darkhawk didn't drop to series 3, so the game is now P2W and exploitative because in order to get this sixth month old card you have to spend one of the currencies regularly doled out freely through the regular upgrade path, and from their tone I don't think they mean exploitative in the sense that all transactions under consumer capitalism are fundamentally exploitation. It's been eye-opening to witness.

I dunno, I'm kind of on the fence about the Darkhawk Knull controversy. I think it's messed up for them to just decide to not let cards that are heavy in the meta to not drop into the tier that is easy to get. They had created a schedule from new card to series 3 drop, but now they are going to pick and choose. I have a hard time caring too much because I am series 3 complete and because I think it's more of a messaging problem. If they had said a month or so ago that these 2 cards would not drop or if they let them drop but announced in the future cards wouldn't be on a drop schedule.

I didn't realise Kitty Pride was just available. I wondered why she was suddenly everywhere.

I've learned that not only do I suck at using bounce decks, I also suck at countering them.

Killmonger.

Speaking of Kitty - I put her in my 1 cost deck and this person played Kang Turn 6 and was just like "I'm good mate"
