NFL 2022: The Week 2 thread

I've wanted to punch Herbie for at least 15 years

Agreed. I only found the circles marking the players a bit intrusive. I wish they had some transparency or something like that. But getting all-22 feed live was cool.

Did anyone watch the Dude Perfect 'cast of the game? I kept meaning to see what that possibly could be, mostly for cringe, but never did.

You ever go from not knowing something exists to strongly wanting that thing to fail in the span of about 5 seconds? That's me right now.

My brain is busy enough without having 5 dudes, perfect or not, screaming at me.

Meanwhile on the main feed, it was crystal clear that Michaels doesn't respect Herbstreit in the least. Here's Michaels wishing him a good weekend in "Boone, North Carolina." (ESPN's College GameDay is live this weekend at App State, and presumably Herbstreit will be there.)

It's time for some Fitzmagic in the booth.

I already expected bad, and that was worse than I expected.

So they've turned an NFL broadcast into a 3 hour long "react" video?

I also liked seeing Roger Goodell look just f-ing pissed that he had to let the spoiled billionaire and his plastic girlfriend sit next to him all game. This from a guy who deals with the likes of John Snyder/Jerry/Stephen Ross. Just absolutely wanting nothing to do with the richest man on the planet tells you something, doesn't it...

They're both assholes.

TFW you actually have to sleep in the bed you made.

No one person should have that much money/power for the same reasons we don't have monarchs anymore.

ETA: circling back to Al Michaels. How much fun would it be to find the commentator that would make him the MOST uncomfortable as a broadcast partner?

How about Jemele Hill?

Or Bomani?

Beat that!

I don't think anyone can.

Knowing that didn't seem to do that defense much good.

Panthers Twitter is all aflutter today over this thread which, based on some third-hand info that might or might not be true, paints the Panthers D room as a complete and utter mess.

The upshot:

* The DC (Phil Snow) doesn't get along with the DB coach (the former Panthers DC, btw) or the DL coach, mostly over the defensive scheme. (Long story short, Snow wants a lot of fast interchangeable guys at LB and DB like in the college game, but the Panthers don't have the personnel to pull that off, and it has left them too light to stop the run.)

* DE Brian Burns wants out

* S Jeremy Chinn isn't talking to the DC

* The Panthers lost out on DE Carlos Dunlap (formerly w the Bengals, now w the Chiefs) bc Matt Rhule was playing this you-gotta-earn-your-starting-spot game for every position, not just QB, and the GM couldn't guarantee Dunlap a starting job or starting pay.

And so on. I don't know whether it's true or not, but it seems somewhere between credible and plausible, so who knows.

Reading the full tweet thread, my thought is that there may be exaggerations or inaccuracies in that, but I have a hard time believing it is complete fiction.

It reminds me very much of, well, being a Jaguars fan last season. Where the stories of dysfunction had details that were so far out of left field that it's hard to imagine someone being able to make them up without tripping over some detail that proves their story false.

Congrats, Enix! With Urban Meyer gone, your team has claimed the vacant belt for dysfunction champion of the NFL!

Sure, that's rough, but you're still better than the Falcons and are responsible for fewer coverups of child molestation than the Saints, so it's still not THAT bad to be a Panthers fan.

Panthers Twitter is about 10% this is BS, 10% this is all true and 80% it seems pretty plausible.

I had no idea that thing existed and now I’m annoyed that I can’t go back to that blissful ignorance.

Ugh. Bengals-Cowboys is the 4pm game here in NC. Two 0-1 teams that are only going to get a win because they are playing each other? Blah.

You can always hate-watch DAL and anticipate those sweet, sweet, Jerruh Tears.

The entire 4pm est slate is actually all winless teams besides the NFC West leading 1-0 Seahawks.

+1 watching the Cowboys going full meltdown +1 watching Chase/Burrow light them up.

Redzone: "And Lamar Jackson's going to get the b... touchdown!"

Well that’s one way to go I guess

Kareem Hunt + Nic Chubb monikered as the “Chunt” backfield is….. uh….. maybe not a good portmanteau?

Nonsense TD overturn got the Dolphins back in the game. There was no angle that clearly showed him short and it was called TD on the field. Baffling.

But Ravens just answered with 75 yard TD

These Ravens are going to give me a heart attack.

Colts still can't play in Jacksonville. Down 17-0 at halftime, and Jags get the ball after half.

Wentz is definitely the answer in Washington; a first half where he's 7/13 for 44 yards and a strip-sack fumble resulting in a safety.

Also, in clearly completely shocking news, the Jaguars are beating the hell out of the Colts.
