Company of Heroes 3 - To Italy AND BEYOND!

The evolution of multiplayer gameplay; new mechanics, new factions, and more units than ever before! Play with up to four friends in vs AI Co-Op, or engage in blistering PvP combat in modes from 1v1 to 4v4.

I had a lot of fun playing CoH2 with fellow goojers, hoping to replicate that a bit in the new game! I'm also really interested in the turn-based Italy strategic campaign. Looks pretty awesome! Who else is a day 1 purchaser?

I am! Played CoH1 and CoH2 a ton and just played the free mission. Looking forward to the release!

I'm hoping to get a chance to try out the free mission over the weekend.

Some cool additions to the game are riding on tanks, driving over trenches, breaching buildings with grenades then entering them to name a few.

Yeah I'll get it at some point. Enjoyed the original a lot but never finished the second.

I managed to play the campaign demo last weekend. It sure was more CoH, and that's a good thing! It's definitely been refined. I found the view was too zoomed in for my liking. I'd love to be able to zoom out about 30% more or, at least, see the tactical view like in CoH2. Maybe they'll add that? IDK.

Tactical pause was cool but I tried to not use it too much as it will likely impair my skills playing MP (which already suck). Maybe I'll just give that up and use it and forget my dreams of becoming a CoH eSports pro.

100% agree on allowing the camera to be zoomed out a bit more!

Anyone playing? Put in about 3 hours yesterday which is a lot more than I put in COH 2. I absolutely loved the first one. Top games of all time for me, but COH 2 just never got me.

COH3 is very fun so far. But I wish we could zoom out further.

My god, this. Especially on a super ultrawide monitor, it's too far zoomed in and I wish they'd allow me to zoom out more. Is this something that can be modded in later?

I really hope so. My problem with this zoomed in, is that you have to scroll a lot to find something else. Like to get to the base, it takes time to get back there due to how zoomed in it is.

I believe that there is a mod in the Steam workshop that allows you to zoom out farther. I don't think that it works in MP though.

I put in about an hour last night. Really liking it so far!

Yes! Thats good news. I only play single player.

I played for an hour or so last night. I like what I played but I can't figure out how to not make my mouse scroll off the screen to monitor 2. I'm playing in "Full Screen" mode opposed to borderless Window so it's not that. Is anyone else running into this?

Edit: Some new results popped up since I searched yesterday so I think I found it. Apparently, there is a "clamp mouse to display" option in the settings that is unchecked by default. I must have missed it when looking last night.

I downloaded the zoom out mod. I can't tell if its working.

The strategic view part is a little clumsy. It's slow with ending turns too... But the tactical battles are the best. Still so much fun. They kinda went the Total War route. I'll take the COH battles over Total War battles any day. I use to auto resolve in Total War. But here, I fight every single one.

It seems weird that you can't zoom in on the tactical map (M), or maybe I haven't found the correct key yet. When there's a lot of assets and enemies on the map, they all overlap and it's a mess.

Totally agree on this. Total War battles are so bland in comparison. On the flipside I'm playing it on Veteran and finding it a cake walk (Italian Campaign). It feels like the AI got worse, from COH2, and is easy to cheese. Maybe I just rolled the right dice, and picked the right upgrades, but I'm unstoppable right now.

I'm playing on normal and it is a walk in the park so far. It's ends quickly that I can barely get a tank or two in the game before it's over. I like tanks and it's a little annoying that it takes so long to get one in these battles unless you get one at the start.

Which is weird because the company I have is the armored one, so shouldn't it always start with tanks?

Its really just the specialty units you eventually have access to, eventually. At least with Veteran I get to the tank point.

Can't believe I put in 16 hours in this already.

I'm starting to get annoyed with the overall campaign map. It's just clunky. It' slow and the turns are slow. Keeps you away from the action.

Loved CoH and CoH2. Hesitated on picking this up since I heard not awesome things about the campaigns and the bad AI. How does it compare to previous versions? Worth getting?

I can't speak for campaign but skirmish is a lot of fun as is multiplayer. They added a lot of quality of life features that really improved the game. Some examples are

Buildings are now built by engineers that appear from HQ to build it. No need to constantly retreat an engineer unit back to the base to build something.

Auto reinforce - love it (it's a toggle, default is on)

Breaching buildings - can enter buildings and force out machine gun units

Spaced out units. Units space out more so less clumped when running

Just to name a few..

Yes, what Whispa said is in line with my experience. It's a better multi RTS *but the campaign does have bad AI (in the skirmish maps) and feels a bit clunky as Balthezor pointed out. That being said I'm still having fun with it and have no doubt they will iron out most of the clunky parts in the next few months.

If you loved the first two I would think you will still enjoy this going in with the mind that the open world campaign feels "early access". Also, the set piece maps I have played have been pretty good so far.

I really loved the first game. It's in my top games of all time. I just loved it. I played it multiple times as well. For some reason, I could not get into COH 2. I tried, but maybe put in 1 hour and never went back. COH 3 has the same magic as COH 1 for me. And all the stuff Whispa said is accurate. Makes it less trouble. I do keep forgetting that there is a pause button.

Does anyone want to get together to do some comp stomps or skirmishes? I'm pretty terrible but I'm practicing and learning. I'm on East Coast time. Early evenings after work (after 5PM) work best for me.

Is anyone using the Discord to meet up?

Finished the Italian campaign. Kinda ended with a dud.

Spoiler:

I thought the finale was going to be in Rome. But it ends before that...

Really thought the end battles will be at Rome with the amount of talk about it in the game story.

What difficulty did you play on? Just curious.

Normal. It was easy but I didn't want to start over.

Balthezor wrote:

Yeah, I did about 25 turns on Normal and found it too easy as well. I did start over on Hard or whatever the next difficulty level is. I'm only 2 turns in. I didn't overwrite my Normal save in case Hard is too hard and I want to go back to Normal to finish.

I recall having the problem in CoH2 in skirmish where Normal was too easy and Hard was too hard for me. I hope that's not the case here.

Currently playing this on Hard and it’s still quite easy. Defending Potenza was by far the hardest mission I faced because it restricts available units. Good fun though

The skirmish missions I find mostly really easy and a little dull, although that does depend on the type of Skirmish. If the game Is counting tickets then I can usually capture enough points that by the time I’m engaging, the AI has less than 100 left. They could do with looking at that.

I’ve also had a few bugs to contend with. The worst is when I airlift company’s between airfields. Some times when the company disembarks at the destination airfield it gets stuck in the map and I can’t move it. That’s really annoying, I can’t afford to have companies on the map I can’t use.

Yeah, I'm thinking of quitting my Veteran campaign and starting on the "Fearless" level. Even with huge mismatches in the pre-battle screen it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

Yeah that only really seems to make a big difference if you’re trying to auto-resolve battles.

If you do get into a skirmish, it tends to give you a ‘defende these points’ missions which are fun but not that much of a challenge provided you kill the tanks quick enough. That’s easy if you know where to put the land mines.
