2022/23 Soccer Thread: Finals Week(s)

How Chelsea are staying the right side of FFP is slightly beyond my maths at the moment. I guess that year they spent not being able to sign anyone has been banked and is now being spent.

It's faintly embarrassing just how much money the premier league is spending this window.

By the amount of money all team in the PL are spending one would think the PL turned into the Super league.

Zero clue who Carlos Vinicius is and his goal return as a striker is... not encouraging, but whatever!

In other news:

More for Brendan Rodgers, who has really cranked his Scotty Parker-o-meter up to 11. “This isn’t the club it was two years ago. That’s the reality. We haven’t brought any new players in, bar one late on, in the last two windows, and that’s a replacement.” This isn’t going to end well, is it.

See you at the next stop, Brendan!

Carlos Vinicius

If you want to see him play while also watching a "Big Six" club playing against literal tradesmen in people's backyards, click that link.

EDIT: I hate that they won't let it play embedded, but the link does work.

THEY SIGNED TWENTY-ONE PLAYERS AND JUST MISSED OUT ON #22. An estimated net spend this summer of £139.46m.

They literally signed an entire new squad.

Unbelievable. I literally wouldn't try this in FM.

I've done it in Conference North/South doing the Dafuge Challenge. It ends in disaster for me in the game more often than working out.

Motion to refer to the Leicester v. Villa game on Sept. 10 as "El Sackico"

I've just wrangled Haaland into my fantasy team. It's a hard truth for us Liverpool fans, but Gerrard is years away from being good enough to manage us, and frankly, the sooner he learns it the better. Haaland for another Hattrick please!

EDIT: I should point out City's game at the weekend is against Villa.

Good game so far in the Pred-Fed Derby.

If you can, check the Che Adams "goal" from about five minutes ago vs. Wolves.

Imma be laugh-crying for the rest of the day.

Who here had Jesse Marsch getting the first red of the weekend?

Toney's not long for Brentford, is he?

Leeds worked really hard to get back into the game at 3-2 and then conceded ten seconds later.

Marsch should walk back onto the field and get another red card.

Bournemouth went from "dead" to "back" pretty goddamn fast.

Dang it, Hammers, you had one job.

Not totally surprised by the loss, but we made a good show of it. Still very positive about this season, as my only real goal here is "stay up."

We gave Mitrovic way too much time and space. I was yelling at that point. Both teams came very close to scoring more - I know we hit the wood several times, and y'all forced Lloris to make a number of challenging saves.

I hope Jedi Robinson is okay!

You know, I've heard the phrase "scoring goals for fun" for years, and always thought it was a stupid phrase. And it mostly is - it's certainly overused, and in reality, most of these guys are working their butts off trying to score, and on top of that, they're doing it to WIN, not for fun. It's ridiculous.

Anyway, Erling Haaland is scoring goals for fun.

Stevie G saving his job here. Done very well to contain City since the equaliser.

Perfectly good Coutinho goal disallowed too. The standard of officiating this season has so far left a lot to be desired.

Edit: Arsenal for the league then!

Yeah, Villa can genuinely feel like they should've taken all three.

Good news for Arsenal though, who will remain top no matter tomorrow's result, I think.

Meanwhile, we're here on Merseyside:

Yep, thank god we got rid of Bielsa and sured up our defence and expended on the small squad... oh....

Bit of history for everyone, here's the last man to score 10 goals in his first 6 PL games:

I hope everyone enjoyed the Leicester story while it lasted.

Lower League Football, you genuinely can't beat it.

Hell of a weekend for VAR.

They have some good players but yeah, they're not in a good place. Apparently their owners might have money issues too?

That latter part will do them in faster than anything else.

In other news, I genuinely feel for Harry Maguire, but damn if dropping him hasn't done wonders for ManU.

What’s worse is when you find out there is a player called the hedge.
