I'm interested in Sea of Stars, Lost Judgement, and Midnight Fight Express. I just... I have no idea when I'll have time for them. This year has no chill with the game releases. Maybe after I'm done with Armored Core, Baldur's Gate 3, and Spiderman.
Oh yes. Sea of Stars. The demo was lovely but I picture it being a massive game and I might not have time either. I want to try to play it sometime in the future.

Sea of Stars and Lost Judgment for me...the backlog continues to swell.
I finished Carto the other day, which I'd recommend if you're in the mood for a short, gentle puzzle adventure game.
Oh Source of Madness is a weird Lovecraftian looking game I fancied trying. Nice.

If I currently have the Extra tier and have "purchased" some games at that tier, but then I drop down to the Essentials tier, will I still be able to play those games? Or do I need to be at-or-above Extra tier to play them?

I decided to cancel PSPlus entirely. I barely use it as-is, and I probably would've stupidly stuck with it had they not raised prices.

You can click the button to cancel now, and still continue using your sub until it expires. Mine's also ending sometime next year, but now I don't have to worry about an accidental extension.

Tried to do it through the web interface, but I got an error saying the server could not be reached. Worked fine when done directly through my PS5 though.
Cancelled mine as well, as I'm good through June. I get some use out of Extra, but not enough to justify a 35% price increase. I'll probably only pay for the basic tier when there's a game with multiplayer I actually want to play, and will probably prioritize those games on PC now instead.
Looks like only cdkeys has discounted PS+ essential right now. Probably old PS+ codes they found somewhere from a year+ ago. Don't usually buy from there. But that seems to be the only discount anywhere currently.
Wow, that's a big jump. It looks like I have Extra until April 2024, so I'll probably also cancel when that expires and just buy a single month if there's a game I want to play.

Benefits don't stop until your current expiration. But if 20% or more of their existing members cancel within a week of a price hike maybe it sends a message.

I need to think hard about whether I'll keep my Plus Essentials subscription. I haven't played online mulitplayer since Modern Warfare in 2019. And I don't think I've played any of the 'free' games since What Remains of Edith Finch?, whenever they made that available.
If I'm not playing online and I'm not playing the Plus games, then I'm really struggling to identify "value-added benefits" that Sony say are included in my subscription.
I canceled mine as well. The games I really think I will want to play again - God of War, Ghosts of Tsushima and a couple others I can buy used on disc and have for a lot less than the subscription.
I had thought about re-upping to one of the tiers for the PS5 but I buy almost all of my games on sale, so the freebie stuff is of limited value to me and I already have gamepass so a lot of the non-exclusive stuff is available to me elsewhere.
I was on the fence but with the price hike, I can't see doing it unless I suddenly start playing multiplayer games(Narrator: He won't)
In a moment of weakness, I checked for cards on that evil river company's website. They have already upped the prices there.
I find, being subscribed at the Extra tier, that almost every game I am intending to buy tends to come up ‘for free’ in the Essential or Extra selections so it’s been worth it for me several times over. I’m resistant to such a big price rise but might stick with it for another year or so yet (Actually, having just checked, it seems like I’m subscribed until March 2025!)
If the selections get worse and I don’t feel like I’m getting more value than the price of the subscription then I’ll think again but it’s not a decision I need to make for a good while.
Is $80 worth it to me just for the player-submitted hints in Elden Ring? Hmm…
