PlayStation Plus Premium Catch-All

I'm getting the impression that Stray is only available through the higher ps+ tiers since there's been no way to pre-order it on PS5. You can on PC, but that's not where I want to preorder it.

Yeah Stray will be on PS Plus Extra & Premium. It's one of the reasons why I upgraded to the Extra tier.

That sucks its only available that way because I have 0 need to upgrade from Essential.

I don't think that's true. They haven't said anything about it being exclusive as a PS+ giveaway. It should be purchasable on PS5 as well. It's probably just not available for preorder there quite yet.

Right. But this game is out in 5 days, and it's available for pre-order on PC. Its why I'm skeptical about if its a PS+ giveaway to lure people to the extra or premium tiers.

That is weird that you still can’t preorder it this close to release, but I’ll be surprised if you can’t purchase it at launch. I feel like we would have heard about it otherwise. If not, that sucks.

There is a physical version (for PS5) you can pre-order so I'm sure it will be available to buy digitally as well. Just the PS store being its usual shambles.

It is not uncommon for games on the PS Store to be unavailable for preorder. I've run into it a few times.

I've seen this happen for games RIGHT before their release. Usually a week or less.

From my experience, indie titles rarely go up for preorder on PSN. It basically needs to be a big name title for it to really show up in the PS Store prior to release.

FYI... it's $30 on the PS Store if you don't have the Premium or Extra tier.

My wife and I had a lot of fun playing Stray last night. We took turns playing while the other watched, and exploring the hub area was a good time. Lots of pots knocked off ledges, lots of meowing. I heard it takes around 5 to 6 hours to finish, but at our current rate I think it'll take longer.

Subscribed to get Stray. The control feedback is amazing!!! I love a controller that can purr.

I am very confused about tiers.. any TLDR version of them?

Essential is what PS+ has been for the last several years: access to multiplayer functionality, cloud save backup, a couple free games every month, and if you have a PS5 you get the Playstation Plus collection which is a bunch of excellent first and third party games that has remained mostly static since it was introduced.

Extra add "Gamepass"-like functionality: You get a whole bunch of games you can play for free as part of your membership. These are downloaded to your console like any PS+ game you've redeemed in the past. Games will come and go from this service, but the library is extensive and has both PS4 and PS5 games.

Premium adds a Classics library of PS1 and PS2 games as well as a collection of games you can stream from the cloud. Think PS3, PSP, and Vita games here. There are also time-limited demos you can try available only in this tier.

All of these tiers stack with the previous tiers' features and benefits.

Thank you.
Seems there is not use for me to "upgrade!" since i have no ps5 YET

I believe if you don't have access to a PS5, you still get the PS4 games with the "Extra" tier. and the classics and streaming with the "Premium" tier.

That's definitely enticing. Would be nice if the older Yakuzas also came to the Extra library.

They are coming to Premium and Extra (I hate the names of their tiers - I have no idea if these are the cheaper tiers of the more expensive ones)

8 Yakuza games coming to PlayStation Plus in 2022, starting this month

Yakuza: Like A Dragon is one of the best RPGs I've played in years. It's a close 2nd behind Elden Ring for my favorite game this year.

Holy sh*t. Ask and ye shall receive…

Edit: I meant to say Extra, not Essential. Because, yeah, the tier names are easy to mix up.

Edit 2: They're really splitting the series across all three tiers
Essential will get:
Yakuza Like A Dragon

Extra will get:
Yakuza 0
Yakuza Kiwami
Yakuza Kiwami 2
Yakuza 6

Premium will get:
Yakuza 3
Yakuza 4
Yakuza 5

Well, I already own all the Yakuza games, but that’s cool. I know I’ve said this before, but I continue to think back to when I started playing the series and it was questionable whether 5 would even be released in the west. Crazy how things have turned around.

Yeah, I hope the Premium and Extra tiers get combined at some point. I always want to switch them in my mind. Extra to me sounds like PS3 and older stuff, but that’s Premium.

And kind of annoying how they qualify games based on their original release. So even though Yakuza 3-5 will likely be the PS4 versions, they are Premium because they were first PS3 games.

Sony, Sony, Sony…

I’m up for trying all the new PS Plus Essential games, especially Like a Dragon. Not sure if I’ll click with any of them but I’m definitely interested.

I finished, and got the Platinum for, Miles Morales! Great game, and I appreciated that it wasn't excessively long.

The Verge linked to a deal to get a year of Playstation Plus Essential for "around" $40.

I bought a code that ended up being $44.78, and when I redeemed it, it stated my Playstation Plus Extra subscription would be renewed for an entire year from today. If I remember right, the Extra subscription was slated to last until November. I'm not sure how the math works out for additional months of Extra vs Essential per dollar works out, but I was pleasantly surprised.

PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog lineup for September revealed

Premium is getting Deathloop. I am surprised it showed up that fast.

I was really expecting the Essential free game updates to drop in quality after the new tiers were introduced, but if anything, it's been better than previously so far.

I've been wanting to check out Chicory for a while, so that's nice to see. I'm very surprised to see Deathloop there. That exclusivity contract should be up in another month or two.

Deathloop has been on sale for over 50% off at least 4 or 5 times already. Not really surprising

Sweet! Never played Deathloop, so that works for me!
