Extremely poor investment by Fox though. Unless they have some data on fringe viewers and how commentators draw more eyeballs I really can't see paying anyone big money to call football games money well spent.
There's also a pretty long history of great players being terrible commentators, because doing things and talking about other people doing those things are so very different. I suspect Brady is obsessive enough he'll be good at it, but still not worth the money.

Yup. Ironically, it is often the most mediocre players that make the best commentators. J T O'Sullivan and Chris Simms are two of my favorites when it comes to breaking things down in a way I hadn't thought of and find insightful and they were both entirely forgettable players.
There's a reason guys like Jordan Palmer and John Beck become QB gurus; they've spent years observing and studying instead of doing, and just haven't had the inherent talent to not have to do that. If you're truly gifted, there's a decent chance you just haven't had to study or work as hard and you don't have the understanding of the game, because you haven't needed to. It's the same reason why lots of great players have flamed out as coaches.

Other sports are like this too, backup goalies and catchers in hockey and baseball most notably. Part-time players spend A LOT of time sitting on the sidelines, thinking and observing. That's the big factor why the transition easier to commentator roles because they haven't needed to be as singularly obsessive as a regular.
Romo is a far better announcer than Aikman. But you'd definitely pick Troy in his prime to play the position.

But seriously, I'm very curious about this. I was not expecting Brady to take a shot at being an analyst. And I think it's going to be good for TV ratings because a lot of people just love to hate on Brady and will consume it for that reason.
I don't think Brady was expecting to do commentary either but then Peyton did and Fox said how about 375 million.
Quick Google Fu puts Brady's deal at 2-3x the Mannings in yearly terms. Just another way to stick it to Peyton.

Via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, former Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo has sued the team, seeking payment of his $3.5 million base salary for 2021, along with compensation for emotional distress.Lambo contends that he was physically and verbally abused by former coach Urban Meyer. Specifically, Lambo claims that the team violated the Florida Private Sector Whistleblower’s Act.
Meyer allegedly kicked Lambo before a preseason game in August, saying to him, “Hey dipshit, making your f*cking kicks.” Lambo alleges that he told Meyer to never do that again. Meyer allegedly responded, “I’m the head ball coach, I’ll kick you whenever the f*ck I want.”
Lambo says he verbally reported the incident to his agent, who communicated the complaint to the team.
Undoubtedly, Lambo contends in the lawsuit (we haven’t seen it yet) that the Jaguars cut him in retaliation for making the complaint regarding Meyer’s conduct.
I wonder if that figure is inflated (unlike footballs at Foxborough, heyo!).
It seems like quite a jump over the previous high bar. Doubling Tony Romo's deal for someone not yet proven to be any good as a broadcaster? Doesn't fully pass the smell test. I feel like it might be more of an "up to" $375 million sort of deal. But who knows? Maybe FOX is just that desperate.
Stuff like this makes me wonder how much longer the 49ers can hang onto John Lynch. Granted he's not in THAT tier of demand, but he took quite a hit in salary when he left the booth for the Niners GM job, and the gap between broadcaster and team executive salaries is only widening now.

Hopefully Fox only has Brady do games for the teams he played for. I can’t imagine a worse person to have to listen to during a football game except maybe Joe Theisman.
I'm hoping Brady will be good. I thought it was premature to throw Romo in the No 1 CBS booth, but he's been pretty good. And I've liked the ManningCast more than I thought I would.
