Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Catch All

Well, I bought it, so I'm in.

Even though after Black Ops 4, I had sworn off of COD games.

But in hindsight, it's only the MW games that I have ever liked, and playing non-MW CODs has always been the mistake.

Also, I've been delighting in all the COD fan tears about the changes to the pacing of this game:

"It's slower!"

"I can't just stare at the minimap and chase red dots!"

"I can't do stupid slide cancels!"

"Footsteps are loud so people HEAR YOU COMING when you sprint around the map like a Zoomer hopped up on Adderall and Tide Pods!"

That, paired with seeing videos of the beta running on Steam Deck at 60fps (in a Windows boot because anti-cheat), got me to buy in. (Plus, unlike BO4, this game actually came to Steam.)

Also, multiplayer FPS games are an absolute wasteland right now. The only other game worth playing IMO is World War 3, which is where I have been spending my time lately, but that game desperately needs new content.

Same... because it's harder for them to get those Nukes off every other match they whine and complain. They feel that since it threatens their viewership it's not good for the game.

Thirded here, I'm always happy to see them curb the high speed movement and parkour in Call of Duty games, Titanfall did it better, I prefer CoD to require a bit more thought around positioning and map awareness rather than bouncing skills.

Wow they're expensive games now though, if I wasn't moving apartment later this year I'd consider getting this despite the ridiculous price, but it's really going to have to wait until deep into the new year unless I can start photosynthesising rather than eating. Whomp whomp.

11/16 they're releasing WZ 2.0 which will also contain the new DMZ mode (Tarkov Lite) which is F2P

Got through the campaign. I really liked it! From mostly a gameplay perspective. The narrative is kinda whatever but they had some really great ideas throughout.

Spoiler:

It's pointless to gripe about the game having a dogsh*t stupid narrative, that's the CoD calling card, I just find it hilarious that they're using Makarov as their Russian ultranationalist badguy again when, hey, you could just use the actual Russian president!

Also LOL at that ending. Are they going to make us do 9/11?

My only real query is, are the guys who made this still insisting that the game isn't political? Because "Drug cartels help a Iranian terrorist bent on killing Americans smuggle himself and weapons of mass destruction across the border" is fanfic written by a OANN staffer. Like, I'm not going to quibble about the politics themselves, just don't claim you're not being political if your plot is some FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD email from your boomer uncle.

Spoiler:

You realize that's the name of the controversial mission from CoD4? If the story continues they'll do it in a plane instead of an airport

Spoiler:

Oh yeah, I know, that's why I asked if they were going to make us do a 9/11, since most of that mission's legacy is "ISN'T THIS SHOCKING! CHECK OUT HOW SHOCKING WE ARE!"

I mean, given how this title hilariously handled "how do de-escalate civilians."

I'm in. Pre-ordered but haven't even finished the campaign before getting torn up in multiplayer. Aaah, just like the good ol' days!

Brand new AAA game like this is $100 after taxes in my Canadian funny money. I hope to squeeze a lot juice out of this yet. I decided to pick it up on Series X to relive the thrills (and agony) of playing in the Xbox 360 heyday.

The last CODs I bought were BLOPS 3 and Infinite Warfare (for the campaign!) on PS4.

I have never seen so many settings available in a console game's menu. Just set me up with everything that maximizes framerate and visibility of objects in the game world!

BTW, I'm in for some Spec Ops and the eventual Raid but... I'm still pretty new on Series X and don't have a headset. Possible to use that Discord integration? Anyway, a cool first weekend ahead of getting pwned in MP lobbies. Bring it!

Initial thoughts on campaign:

Classic super-scripted COD campaign. It really does feel like I'm an actor thrown onto a big-budget movie set for the first time. No script and only a vague directive to "wing it" and "follow the other actors' lead". Every time I die, the director yells "CUT" and screams at me, "Whaaaat are you dooing?", without any other feedback. Then we take the scene from the top and do it again until we get the perfect take.

When I can improv or luck my way into a nice flow, the missions play out beautifully on top of the game itself looking absolutely gorgeous. The other times, well, a lot of WTF moments to get through.

Also, this is a pretty buggy CoD. The buggiest I’ve played in a while.

The campaign or multiplayer?

I only really play the Infinity Ward developed games in their entirety but my experience with this campaign was pretty flawless. This is in stark comparison to 2019 MW, where I bailed out of the campaign around launch because all the character models in a tunnel level about a third of the way through were missing faces or limbs.

I’ve only had one MP match that showed lag, no bugs otherwise.

Campaign. Violence and Timing wouldn’t stop crashing to dashboard at a couple different checkpoints. Had to restart the entire mission twice before it righted itself.

Game is fun. Movement is still sprinty COD movement, but much less spastic than non-MW COD.

They turned down the footstep audio compared to the beta, though.

Definitely looking forward to playing Hardcore, or "Tier 1" as it's now called, once it releases.

Caved and bought the game, but can't get past this error:

I have updated to the latest nvidia driver, 526.86, but no luck.

Use the “clean install” option when doing the driver install. Or use DDU to wipe out all old drivers and install fresh.

Thanks, got it sorted.

I've been bad for the past few days about it, but i'm usually hanging out in the GWJ discord as well

Propagandalf#1996 if anyone wants a total newb on their team.

I always forget about GWJ Discord. I'll have to start hanging out there more.

I'm Maclintok on Xbox... putting it out there for any DMZ action. I'm not much for WZ and you may get annoyed at my cursing if we play MP. Not to mention I probably need a good, consistent 20 hours of MP practice before I elevate myself from "barely better than fighting AI" status.

Discord chat until I snag a nice headset during Black Friday/Cyber Weekendh.

MW2 is xplatform so it all works out

I'll try to remember to jump into the Discord next time I play.
