Welcome folks, and happy “280th Anniversary of the debut of Handel’s Messiah” week!

It was performed in 1742 in Dublin as part of a hospital charity drive. King George II was in attendance, and when it got to the the now-famous ‘Hallelujah’ chorus, the King rose to his feet. Some say it was because he was so moved by the music; others say that he had been asleep and jumped up as the loud choir woke him. Still others say that he thought the chorus’ lyrics—”And He shall reign for ever and ever”—were written in tribute to him and he rose to acknowledge the props. Whatever the reason for the King standing, everyone else in attendance followed suit, starting a tradition to stand up at that part of the performance that continues to this day. You may all celebrate by playing a game where you have your own little rituals.

It’s another week of smaller games, and expansions. If you’re looking for a palette-cleanser between some of the big dogs from February or just a game that won’t dominate your life, there are some pickings to be found, especially on the Switch.

Nobody Saves the World comes out of its Xbox sclusy time and is available on PlayStations and Switch. I shouted this out on its original release and it’s been mentioned a few times on the Conference Call, so check it out if you liked what you heard about it.

Back 4 Blood: Tunnels of Terror adds 7 new dungeons, 7 new weapons, 3 new monster types, and 2 new playable characters. There’s also a bunch of new character and weapon skins. This game doesn’t seem to have the legs of its predecessor—will this first expansion draw people back in?

There’s a few platformers out on PC, as usual. Sephonie is a PS2-lookin’ 3D platformer by the makers of Anodyne. In combat-free gameplay, you explore a cave network and link with creatures to learn new abilities. B.I.O.T.A. is more of a 2D Castlevanioid with an 8-bit style. Then there’s RUN: The World In-Between, which claims influence from Celeste, Super Meat Boy, and Dead Cells. So, expect frequent deaths, precision platforming, and lots of collectibles.

Road 96 is a French game about a bunch of teenagers stuck in a fictional, dictatorial regime. You can choose to focus on fleeing the country or trying to influence the upcoming election. It’s procedurally-generated and was reviewed OK on its initial release last year for Switch and PCs. Facebook banned its ads for being too political. Go figure.

On the Switch, Mario Golf is the classic N64 game being added to Nintendo Switch Online for subscribers to its Expansion Pack service. This is Nintendo’s new model of letting subscribers rent their older games, rather than buy them. Let’s see how this strategy plays out with fans.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is the PS4 mech JRPG tactics game that’s out on Switch this week.

Cat Cafe Manager is about what it sounds like. Manage your cat cafe with business sim elements and visual novel interactions with customers.

There’s nothing in my wheelhouse this week. Like some bird, I’m doing a weird courtship dance around Elden Ring, getting ready to play it. As such, I’m not up for a big timesink from this week’s offerings. Road 96 looks interesting, but a bit heavy. I’m going to run with Cat Cafe Manager—it’s like a quick cup of coffee before starting the work day.

Wonder how long **** PUTIN is in development for.

Cube World caught my eye as that game came out a few years ago after 6 years of alpha and near complete silence from the developer the whole time. Except this new Cube World is a super cheap Tetris knock off...?

Lots of ports and re-launches on new platforms this week. If you haven't played 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on PS4, check it out on Switch. It's a really cool Atlus visual novel with a mix of RTS and tower defense game thrown in the middle.

Yes! I really hope the Switch release gives this game more attention. It was such a great ride.

I'd also third that vote on Aegis Rim. Such a great game!

Nobody Saves the World looks fun. Played Guacamelee on PC but the 2nd one on Switch, which was great.
