NFL 2022: The draft thread

Titans take Malik Willis. Tannehill is overrated, so… we’ll see?

Baltimore is totally going to vacuum up another falling player.

Jones was projected to go in the mid 30's to low 40's. I think 76 is enough of a drop.

Boo, another center prospect goes right before the Niners.

Wow. I guess that RB room was looking bare. I don't know if I could have named a single 49ers RB before today /s

Shanahan takes another 3rd round running back. Trey Sermon already being squeezed out? Damn.

Now Carolina traded a next-year 3rd to get into this year's 3rd round. That's a pick they were supposed to give the Niners for Jimmy. They're gonna take a QB here aren't they?

Panthers take Corral.

LOL good luck.

Matt Corral to the Panthers. Both the Panthers and Falcons do take QBs, just two rounds later than they should have.

What do the browns want for Mayfield anyway? Must have been a 3rd and not much salary relief based on how this draft is going. Also, that panthers locker room seemed to want no part of Mayfield.

I don't quite understand the running back pick, but I absolutely understand the Niners taking WR Danny Gray. Fast as hell and good at transitioning to the run after catch, another YAC guy.

I wanted Rondale Moore last year. Gray fills a similar profile. Slightly slower (4.33 vs 4.29), but not so damn short.

Panthers Twitter is thrilled. They see a value QB who has the potential to start right away.

I'm pretty much meh. Corral is the third or fourth best QB (depending on how you feel about Willis) among a sorry crop of QBs in this year's draft. NFL QBs have to do a lot more than run RPOs, and it's not clear to me that Corral can pull that off. I've seen him comped as a mini-Mariota, which is probably a good thing if your current starting QB is Am-say Arnold-Day but not so hot overall.

What is clear to me is that Carolina really doesn't like what it sees in either Baker or Jimmy G (and/or is unwilling to commit the future draft picks and 2022 salary to either guy). The Panthers would rather take a flyer on Corral's potential than give up more draft picks/cap space to get either one of those guys. Corral's definitely the more affordable option -- again, a good value pick all the way around.

I get Carolina's thinking. I just haven't seen anything in the Matt Rhule era that leads me to think they can develop a QB. Maybe McAdoo will be able to. Who knows, right?

I can name at least one thing Mariota and Darnold did that Matt Corral didn't.

Daniel Faalele at 110 just doesn't seem fair. EDC is stealing this draft.

Beat up Wayne Gretzky's kid?

Both Mariota and Darnold beat up Gretzky's kid? Geez, that kid must be such an entitled asshat.

It does occur to me that the silver lining of Carolina and Atlanta not taking questionable QBs too high and instead waiting until the third is both those teams will be very bad this year and picking high next year, and maybe Ridder and Corral show just enough promise that they decide to pass on QBs next year in a much stronger draft.

The Patriots' CB corps now includes Jonathan Jones, Marcus Jones, and Jack Jones. Now we just need the numbers to be confusing enough.

Browns drafted a kicker in round 4!

Milkman get in here!

And the Ravens took a punter (and it wasn't Matt Araiza)!

And the Bucs also took a punter!! Two punters in the 4th, lol.

Because that's clearly the most questionable thing the Browns have done recently.

Edit: Also, you should draft punters; higher drafted punters, like every position other than kicker, tend to have better careers, and, for all the Jacksonville jokes regarding taking Brian Anger before Russell Wilson, Anger has been a very good punter over the years. Your kickers should be UDFAs, your punters should be drafted.

The Ravens drafting a punter in the fourth round was odd too.

Cowboys take CB DaRon Bland, FRESNO STATE

Walked right into that one.

Punt God goes to the Bills Mafia.

Ok, so the Patriots drafted someone who I think might be a football player.

Damn it, I was at work when he got drafted.

He's a very good running back:

He also threw a touchdown pass in a spring game. So, if Lamar get's hurt, they got options now.

Oh lordy.

Urban Meyer and Fox Sports are deep in negotiations for Meyer to return to the network, The Athletic has learned.

Meyer was fired by the Jaguars just 13 games into after his NFL coaching tenure following three national championships as a college coach at Ohio State and Florida. His Jaguars tenure was chronicled in detail by The Athletic’s Jayson Jenks and Mike Sando.

"After deliberation over many weeks and a thorough analysis of the entirety of Urban's tenure with our team, I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone," Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in a statement upon firing Meyer. "Regaining our trust and respect was essential. Regrettably, it did not happen."

Prior to his Jaguars tenure, Meyer worked for two years as one of the studio analysts on Fox’s "Big Noon Kickoff," a show which has a heavy Big Ten imprint. He is well-liked by top Fox Sports executives and the show found viewership success for the network, though they remain behind "College GameDay" in morning pregame college football viewership.

The thinking at Fox Sports, via network sources, is that they don’t view Meyer’s failure at the NFL level as an impediment to his returning to Fox. They know that the hire will be pilloried on social media. Meyer also had a 10-month broadcasting tenure at ESPN in 2011 which ended when he took the Ohio State job.

Pilloried and usage of finger -> butt.

Niners draft QB Brock Purdy as Mr. Irrelevant.

Carson Strong goes undrafted, which tells us pretty much everything we need to know about the state of his knee. But he has signed with Philly as a UDFA.

Looks like Louisville had no one drafted. 3 free agent signings tonight.

Dang, Bobby really did leave the cupboard bare.
