Abandoned Any Games Lately?

Dunno why, but re-installed Hearthstone after many, many years.

Had an absolute blast playing the tutorial and first 2 or 3 games in the Arena.

After that - I remember I bounced off pretty hard coming to a level where people are able to weave strings of cards I could never think of. Seems I am at that point again.

I just can't memorize all these cards to see the golden combos, and just copying a deck from the net is no fun for me.

Maybe I should try Marvel Snap

Honestly that's why i stick to single player deckbuilders.

I want to like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. I should like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. I think I am going to fall off Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous again. Not sure why I am not clicking with it.

Like Kingmaker, it is fun until you are hit in the face with the strategic part of the game. And then the crazy (to me at least) difficulty spikes. The early dungeon delving is very fun and, theoretically, the strategic part of the game gives you reasons to go out and do more delving. But it doesn't quite work. I've gotten through Act 1 and a decent way into Act 2 4-5 times (same with Kingmaker) and just stopped. Should love this game but it is so annoying.

I have Rogue Trader and I am through Act 1. It is really fun. I am scared to get into Act 2 and it falling to pieces.

That was me with Alan Wake 2.

I got through rogue trader and only put the game one easy a few times. One chapter annoyed me but I did manage to finish it. If I play again it will be on easy mode.

Maiden of Sker. Was really enjoying it but kept falling through the map.

I checked out Biomutant for a few hours, but its overall weirdness and jank has made me move on.

I love open world games, but this one was a strange one. It doesn’t introduce its world or story in a very good way. The part of the map I explored was pretty generic and felt like large hallways to funnel you in different directions, and the combat and weapons were very kludgy. It felt like a game from several generations ago. (I don’t even recall when/where it released but I played it on PS4.)

I have now fired up Days Gone - which is fantastic! It checks all the boxes for the types of open-world games that I adore. It immediately feels sort of like a Mad Max alike - which is another game I loved.

You are not alone PaladinTom - I had the same experience with Biomutant. It had some neat stuff and the characters were cool, but I bounced off it after 6 or 7 hours.

I too love open-world games. I tried streaming Biomutant a while back and barely made it through two hours. Just a mess of a thing.

It gets a little better as the skill tree opens up, but it remains a mess. Definitely on my "to play when too tired to think" list.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
Nothing out & out bad about this game. I'm just apathetic about it.

Sorry it didn't click with you, PaladinTom. I had a blast with it!

I haven’t given up yet, especially since it’s a game club pick, but Octopath Traveler 2 keeps putting me to sleep.

MW3 just came to Gamepass. I played about 2 hours of multiplayer and uninstalled.

I am sad to say that I am not enjoying Tears of the Kingdom at all. I'm finding the controls are too frustrating, the exploration is too slow and boring and feels too repetitive from the last game, and the building mechanic is just not fun at all.

This really bums me out because I really loved Breath of the Wild.

My experience was that I was enjoying it (put about 18 hours into it) but the building mechanic just sucks the fun out of it, I absolutely agree with you there. I'll go back to it when they do a Switch 2 port.

I also think post Elden Ring the controls, combat & enemy design don't hold a candle to From Software's masterpiece.

I finally deleted The Talos Principle after not having played it for about two months.

When I bought it last year, I was just beginning to tire of the decades of virtual murder that I'd been committing as part of my hobby. And I wondered - not for the first time - whether puzzle games could become a thing that I played. (I dimly remember playing some of Monument Valley on my first Kindle a few years ago.)

What I discovered again is that I enjoy puzzles in games, but not games that consist only of puzzles. I just don't have the patience for them. Also, when I burrowed more deeply into the stats behind 'How Long to Beat's' assertion that TTP is 15 hours long, I discovered that there are more than 100 puzzles to solve in order to reach the end. That just felt like a chore to play. Even if I did one puzzle per day, I'd still be spending 3 months with TTP... and I'd be resenting the game more with each passing minute.

I don't really like platformers either, so I expect to be back here reporting that I've bailed on Astro Bot too at some point.

BTW, is the search function forever gone on this site? I remember that work was taking place to port the site over to a new platform, and I think that disabling search was one consequence of that work. Did anything come of that ?

Checked out Vampire Survivors on Apple Arcade for almost 10 whole minutes.

Apologies to those that liked it, but I just don’t get it.

Do you recall what weapon drops you got?

I ask because I had a similar experience. Turns out I got weapons on my first few runs that don't do much until they have quite a few levels to them. The game felt like a chore and I was left wondering what all the fuss was about.

If you're up for trying again, I suggest garlic. The Poe character starts with it, too.

Internet high 5! I found it incredibly tedious too.

Weirdly tho, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, which is a very similar game? Totally my bag.

I love vampire survivor but recognize it was one of the first in the genre. So it definitely is lacking in some ways. Especially if you want something more interactive.

Maybe a hot take but vanilla Minecraft and valheim have a similar problem.

Same!

DRG: Survivor has hit SO many correct notes with me, it's unbelievable. It's currently my 7th most played game since Steam started counting, at 133 hours. Maxed out all the Upgrades, and I still did not get a single Level 5 challenge win. Still love it and have an occasional bout.

Vampire Survivors - I get it, but just didn't hook me...

Just quit AstroBot. I can see it is a great platformer, but I can also see that I am terrible at timed jump puzzles. I play games for fun, not for frustration.

I'm moving on from Sonic Mania for the iPhone ("free" with a Netflix sub).

I was never a big Sonic fan, but I got through five or six worlds before I started to bump my head. It seems like a very good Sonic game if you're a fan, but it's very old school where you only get three lives to complete two levels and a boss. This style of game is just not for me - and the pile always looms.

I haven't played it yet but is it really that bad? I thought it was geared towards casual players.

I suspect it isn't that bad but that I suck. I know I am not great at instant death jump timing. So I wouldn't write it off if you have played that kind of game and succeeded.

I share your aversion, farley3k. It's why I never finished Astro's Playroom, the freebie that came with the PS5. It's also why Astro Bot is sitting in my Amazon watchlist, while I wait for the price to reach the magic £20.

That said, if I am to continue to migrate away from endlessly murdering things in video games, I will need to become more open to platformers and puzzlers. I'm going to give Playroom another go, once I finish No Man's Sky.

Star Wars Outlaws. Great Star Wars atmosphere. Average Ubisoft everything else.

It's a very solid average game. That's really the best summary. We need a game that combines all of the best elements from Outlaws, Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor.

…and KOTOR and TIE Fighter.
