NFL 2022: The preseason pre-draft thread

Yeah, I generally agree with the argument that the bar for the HoF is lower but that's almost inevitable unless you start introducing fewer people over time. But that's not good for business, though. Honestly, I don't care too much about it.

In other news, the Bengals extended Zac Taylor's contract.

Qaaron Rodgers moving on from... his relationship with Shailene Woodley. Welp, guess that means more time to hang out with his pal Joe Rogan.

I used to make fun of the Patriots Super Bowl parades but the LA Rams parade I'm not sure can ever be topped for all time lameness.

I'd say it was her lack of complete reverence for all his wacky sh*t... Qaaron is probably Trump 2.0 and demands nothing but supreme loyalty.

This makes all the "Rodgers might stay in Green Bay" talk make so much more sense. So much of the talk about him relocating last offseason revolved around how the location would benefit Woodley.

I still expect he ends up in Denver, but the odds for remaining in GB are way higher than I expected.

Qaaron Rodgers is making his decisions with the same care as a 17 yo picking his college.

Report: Kyler Murray Told Colt McCoy 'I'm Done' Before End of Playoff Game

“The playoff game [in Los Angeles] a minute left, the game had been decided, backup Colt McCoy encouraged Murray to finish the game with his teammates,” Garafolo said. “A banged-up Murray said no, that’s it, I’m done.”

Garafolo added Arizona took note of that decision by Murray.

“A lot of Cardinals folks were not happy with that.”

Earlier today, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen also reported the team’s disappointment with Murray, with a source describing Murray as “self-centered, immature and (a) finger pointer.”

Dude has obviously p!ssed off some folks in Phoenix. These leaks are brutal.

Kyler's welcome to join the Carolina QB Jamboree this offseason. By the start of training camp, the Panthers are likely to have enough guys to field an entire offense of QBs and an entire defense of CBs.

FO's Mike Tanier on Matt/Matthew Stafford's HoF candidacy:

The Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee does not count rings and scan leaderboards. The committee also does not forget the details of a player’s “signature” seasons the way casual fans and talkshow hosts do. Just the opposite, in fact: when a player reaches the finalist stage, voters examine dossiers, solicit testimonials and engage in debates that bring each player’s strengths AND weaknesses back to life. If Richard Sherman’s remarks on Twitter ... are any indicator, Stafford won’t be getting many “testimonials” from his peers.
As for Stafford’s long string of statistically bulky seasons, they will not impress a single Hall of Fame voter. Again: this is an informed electorate that knows darn well that passing statistics have been going up steadily for decades.

She was way into alternative medicine, homeopathy, etc. before this. Maybe she wised up about the vaccine, but for all we know, she is as kooky as him.

You of course hire a black woman to represent you against a racism charge... optics. You can keep her on when the systemic sexism charges come.

Need to check last year to see if their Best Case for the Bengals involved almost winning the Superb Owl.

90th percentile outcome: 10-7
How they get there: The moves the Bengals made to solidify their offensive line are good enough to let Burrow and a strong supporting cast shine in 2021. Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase rekindle the special connection they had with LSU in 2019, particularly deep downfield, where Cincinnati struggled last season. Chase caught 24 of his 36 20-plus-yard targets from Burrow in his final season with the Tigers.

The return of D.J. Reader and Trae Waynes from injury, along with the free-agent additions of Hendrickson, Chidobe Awuzie and Mike Hilton this offseason, leaves the Bengals’ defense in a much better spot.

I mean that's almost exactly what happened! It's very interesting to see the hits and misses of the predictions. So many teams hit either their 10th percentile or 90th percentile outcomes.

Panthers' 10th percentile prediction was spot on regarding the offense. They were pretty close on the defensive forecast, too. (Carolina's D was decent to good through about Week 10 but then gave up around T-giving.)

Almost makes me yearn for home. And a good hoagie. And Pizza. And Krimpets. And post-Philly game cheap bag-O-pretzels. *sigh*

Cowboys paid $2.4 million to settle cheerleaders' voyeurism allegations against senior team executive

This is wild. And combined with what happened with the former WTFs, this is getting to a systemic problem with sexism in the NFL.

Edit: And the NFL acts exactly as you would suspect.

I know you're as shocked as I am.

Black coaches: A way to get people way overqualified on your staff.

Panthers called Vikings about Kirk Cousins. The good news is this would likely make the Panthers the divisional favorite. The bad news is it's Kirk Cousins, and with his cap hit he's starting to kind of feel like the Jeff Fisher of QBs and a guaranteed mediocre season.

Vikings: *slaps roof* "This bad boy can fit so much plague in it".

I would assume that any Cousins trade would involve a restructure to keep some of the salary in Minnesota.

The Washington Football Communists have had to fix their new crest, due to listing the wrong years for their championship victories on it.

They had listed the years in which the championship games were played, as opposed to the seasons for which those title games correlated. So, for example, since the 1987 season's Super Bowl was played on January 31st, 1988, they put 1988 on the crest.

That is... a special kind of incompetence.

WTFs gonna WTF

Panthers Twitter is mad about this because Kirk Cousins would only bring Carolina to 9-8.

Which proves that the average Panthers fan has the memory of a goldfish, as Carolina hasn't won nine games since the 2017 season. Hell, it took the past two seasons to win 10 games total.

The best part about this bit of news is that the Panthers tried to boost HEY DARNOLD's confidence by picking up his fifth-year option before he even played a snap but appear to have given zero thought to what a call to Cousins (and Watson and Carr and Jimmy G and the ghost of Steve McNair, etc etc) would do to Darnold's QB esteem.

I root for the dumbest team.

Maybe they bring in Carson Wentz…he’s also antivax. He does seem destined for the Texans though. His special brand of Jesus Crazy would fit right in there.
