I am glad to see 2020-too is picking up right where 2021 left off.

He was a fine fine actor.

I feel a little classless that I know him best from Sneakers, but then again that was also my first experience with a lot of those actors, and also Sneakers f*cking rules and he's great in it.

I've loved Sydney Poitier since I was a child. I remember being moved by the characters he portrayed in Lilies of the Field, Raisin in the Sun, Guess Who's Coming for Dinner, Blackboard Jungle... among others. He and Harry Belafonte were a big deal in my house, not only for their charisma and talent, but for the way they opened my eyes at a young age to fairness and equality among all people. The roles Poitier portrayed defined my sense of equality and acceptance of others and made me see the horrible effects of racism and otherism and turned me into a young social justice warrior before that term was even coined. The story of how he got to where he did is amazing.

edit: Thank you Sir Poitier, for all you gave us. God speed and say Hi to Betty for us.

The Jackie Robinson of acting. His directing career may not have taken off, but I'm glad he got a chance to do that too. Really broke down barriers.

RIP

Well... Ghost Dad wasn't his fault, I'm sure. The idea of that movie is terrible for any director. And when you consider the highlight of the movie was the taxi driver...

Nice to share this boat with someone. Sneakers is f*cking great. I re-watched it a year or so ago and it holds up really well. I even caught a few new things that I didn't notice or understand when I saw it originally.
