Help me build my PC: 2022 Catch-All

6700 XTs are $350 right now and offer an ~80% boost over your 1080. So if you can't wait and don't want to pay $500, that is an option. It’s got 12GB vram too since you mentioned that as a concern.

I’ve been thinking for a long time about eventually upgrading my venerable 1070 to a 3070. This comment got me to look into the 6700 XT instead - seems to be close on performance, about $300 NZD cheaper and I can redeem a copy of The Last of Us.

Now go choose that tag.

Alright I'm in the market for a prebuilt or a solid build recommendation. I can't seem to find a source I like on my own for good recommendations. Budget is $1000 to $1400.

I am always happy to build a new machine but if prebuilt is the way to go then I'd be open to recommendations. Otherwise where do gwjers go to get the low down on best items to guide their build?

Yes I do know that but good places to research the build rather than going in blind? Their build guides seemed a bit all over, I didn't know what I was choosing and why.

It would help to know what you are doing with the machine. Are you gaming on the machine? How many monitors and what resolutions do you need? If you are looking at higher end gaming, $1k isn't going to get you that far as most video cards are going to be a majority of that price.

What are the current stats on your PC? Are you looking to start from scratch or build entirely new?

I think I found what I wanted to get a good idea of specs, price, & information on what's important to consider. Couldn't find it yesterday. I thought I had checked out tom's Hardware but found this page last night.

Building new from scratch. I should say internal components I am looking 1k to 1,400 for the base machine, GPU separate.

You can get a beast of a system for that $$$ if you are not including gpu.

2TB Gen4 SSDs are $160
7900x is considered really good price/performance at $430
I think you can get decent Zen4 motherboards for $200 or $250
I am not an expert on RAM other than to say "get at least 16GB"
I have a ventroo $35 air cooler that kicks ass
For the money you are spending on the base system, I wouldn't go lower than a rx6800 gpu. I see one for less than $500. The only risk in getting one is if the 7600x comes out in a few months, nearly matches it and costs $400. But that is the rumor and it isn't that much less likely that it is closer to a 6700XT and costs $450.
The 6950XT can be had for below $700 in a couple of brands. The risk of its replacement at least forcing a price drop in the coming couple of months is greater IMHO.
For Nvidia, yeah no. Way overpriced still unless you need it for work and can fold it into contract $$$
They had a flash deal on founder's editors some weeks ago but that has come and gone.

I would probably go with an AMD 7600 over the 13400f, based on Gamers Nexus review of the latter. It's decent but not quite the game changer the 12400f was.
