Yeah Rob, but then you recommended a $500 CPU.

Well I wasn't sure what your budget was for a CPU. You could easily do a 5600X for around the same price as the 12th gen CPU you mentioned.

Or 5700X if you are willing to spend 50 bucks more, and get some extra cores.

Either one of those would be great.

Except that benchmarks for AMD next gen just released. The 7600x is 22% faster than a 12900k in single core...
If you weren't already planning to replace the mobo, I'd say forget it. But since you are already going to replace the mobo, then I'd recommend either going super cheap or waiting for next gen might really be worth it.

Waiting it definitely on the table, at least until the current stuff is discounted.

The next couple of months could be very interesting with regards to pricing...

I've also heard the new stuff is going to be power hungry! Or maybe that's just the GPUs. Probably wouldn't hurt to wait.

AFAIK the only power guzzling offender will be Nvidia.

Okay, final build! I'm too impatient to wait for Fall, and the Ryzen discounts are pretty nice right now. Record low price, etc. Paying a premium for the mini-itx motherboard, but the portability is worth it for me. One funny sticking point is I wanted to use the front USB-C on the case, which the GIGABYTE B550I AORUS PRO AX lacks so I had to go another way.

I also wanted to do an AIO install for the first time, so I'm paying a premium for that too since quiet is more important to me than saving a few bucks. There's some nice fan options these days, but I couldn't resist THE TUBES.

- Ryzen 5600X (the 5800x was interesting, but I have my Macbook Pro 14 for video/audio work, and this is a gaming box.)

- ASUS ROG Strix B550-I motherboard

- Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB

- NZXT Kraken X53 240mm AIO

- NZXT h210 case

Existing PSU, SSD's and stuff will transfer over. Nice. Shipping, tax, etc. about $650 us.

Thanks for all the input folks! Really gave me an excellent starting point.

Congrats! When does everything arrive?

Not soon enough, I would think.

This coming Friday I would think.

It's not too late to change your mind and get this Aquarium PC case

Build done. Ended up going with the 5800x (discount was so good). Pics on Twitter!

Wow, you did just squeak that 2080ti in there
Congrats!

Look at that beautiful AIO mounted with nice, even pressure across the CPU.
