NCAA Basketball 21-22 Catch-All

Yeah I'm just messing with you. I've said it to my wife multiple times this season that Roy did it better.

I'm ok with announcing before the playoffs in whatever sport. Gives players that extra edge. Pretty sure that's why UCLA beat Louisville in the 75 final four. Dang Wooden.

But yeah this whole ACC season has been exhausting.

No doubt. I think you can definitely make a case for the "just before playoffs/post-season" notification as well, since you announce and go right into a series of games.

I don't have a problem with ESPN making a big deal out of Coach K's retirement. He stands high in the ranks of all the coaches of basketball at all levels. It's a big deal to honor him during his retirement tour. Just please don't take over your coverage of other games while play is going on. Keep it to your halftime reports and maybe coming in and out of commercials. Not while play is going on. Please. This has been going on for weeks with ESPN.

Daytime hoops for the rest of the week!

ACC going now in NYC.

Cards play best half of the season. 45 points, 50% from 3, only 1 turnover. Up 17.

Then go up 27 in 2nd

Then go stupid for 5-6 minutes, give up 17-0 run.

Hold on to win by 10.

Sounds like the Vols vs Arkansas. 50 points in the first half. Up by as many as 24. Arkansas gets it down to a bucket in the last couple of minutes, but the good guys hold on for a win.

Apparently we wanted to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that we suck this year.

I was shocked.. I thought things might be coming back together with players returning from injury, but there was just no cohesion in there today.

Also WTF was this?!

No call during the game... but he should be suspended for the rest of the tournament, at the very least.

Bye, Wake. New coach new players, you still suck.

Might be on the wrong side of the bubble too.

Exciting finish for the Clemson / VT game (buzzer beating 3 to win it for VT).

Cards and Hoos up next... man, the winner of that one is gonna be on short rest for tomorrow's game against the Heels.

Lots of good games today

Hate Virginia. So many fouls they get away with credited to their tough defense. It's bullsh*t.

1 point loss not bad but still a loss. Time for new coach.

Time for me to make Murray St my team for the next few weeks.

And of course the Cards women are still top 5 so that tournament will be good.

Yeah, I really do NOT like that aggressive pack-line they play. There are a ton of no-calls that would be fouls in most games. We handled them once this year, I am hoping we can do it again.

Cal has its 4th 20-LOSS season in the last 5 years.

Also Cal:

Its probably paywalled, but basically our administration is ready to extend the coach responsible for this catastrophe.

There are 5-6 D1 schools up here in the Bay Area, and Cal is dead last by a long shot.

Yikes. Yeah this our first losing season since 00-01. And we didn't even let the coach finish because that's unacceptable here

I tell ya, they don't feel good. That Cole Anthony '19-20 season was pretty brutal to watch, by and large.

The administration is content with stability. Its no secret that the athletic department at Cal is second to its academics, and my guess is that they've done the math and a guaranteed financial outcome of XXX (where XXX is a small or negative number) is better than taking a chance on spending real money on a coach which turns up being a higher risk/reward proposition. I didn't think this level of bad play though would be acceptable.

If we were a perpetual .500 conference team that snuck into the tourney every 2-3 years, that's probably acceptable to most. This though is a complete disaster. What's particularly frustrating is that unlike football, it just takes 1 player to spark interest and sell tickets. When Jason Kidd or Ivan Rabb (California HS POY) or Jaylen Brown are on the team, suddenly the arena is full regardless of the results on the court. Not sure anyone in those tiers would even consider joining this embarrassment of a team.

Yep that's what leaves me hopeful. 1-2 players can turn things around in hoops. And with transfer portal and no sitting out, Cards should be right back in the tournament with the right hire.

Syracuse fought fairly hard and kept it close (even without Buddy on the floor), but did their typical thing this season and kind of collapsed in the last 2 min. Duke looked tight and pensive for most of the contest. Probably still feeling the pressure of the Coach K's Last $thing media frenzy.

Looks like he got more punishment than this last year. Payne wasn't suspended at all. Fulkerson had a broken eye socket and was done for the year. Can you tell I'm still mad?

Enjoying UVA beatdown but maybe they could have just lost last night if they didn't want to show up tonight.

I'm pretty sure we have y'all to thank for their tired legs tonight. Couple of UVA players just airballed shots they'd normally have the range on. Nice to get 2 wins over them this year, it's been a while.

Fed!

Get in here and tell us how good it feels to beat a top 5 team. Haha

This is what's called peaking at the right time.

If y'all didn't see the monster block in the last few minutes, find it! I screamed out loud, and I'm back at work in the office!

Edit: ESPN app pushed it to my phone:

I yelled too. That was an amazing block.

Good on ya. Auburn seems to be trending the wrong direction lately.

Conference 1 seeds were 1-3 in noon games today. Houston the only winner

I hear Cuonzo Martin is available.

Well the vandy run is over but they got NIT eligible I guess?

UK plus SEC refs chasing their only 1 seed chance now that Auburn lost? I dunno but they got hosed down the stretch from right before stackhouse technical

Duke survived Miami mostly because Miami shot under 50% FTs. Ugh.

Uh did UNC come out for the second half? Wow

Stele wrote:

No. No they did not.

[facepalm]

The Jekyll team apparently decided to make an appearance tonight. Just got out played at every step of the way. The only thing I can take away from it is that it means we won't get crushed by Duke for Coach K's final ACC Championship.
