Forza Horizon 5 Catch-All

I will be copping this on PC, after having not played a Forza game in ages, as it seems like an absolutely fantastic "I need some Dopamine now please" game.

My son and I are going to play the absolute sh*t out of this game. He has probably put a thousand hours into FH4 alone. Plus multiple thousands in the first three as well.

Unlocked today! CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY.

I don’t know if I can say this game is better than 4, but it’s certainly gotten it’s hooks in me much deeper. It might be the more tropical, vibrant environment compared to 4? I’ve been playing nonstop for about 5 hours and loving it.

If I had any complaint, and this has been true for every entry in the franchise that I’ve played, it’s that the game structure feels a little frictionless. You get tossed amazing cars from the very beginning. Most races, the difficulty slides with what car you choose. One of the things I like about older racing games was that sense of achievement when you unlock faster and more exotic cars. You certainly have a lot to unlock here but it kind of feels handed to you here. There’s plenty to unlock but the best cars are not overwhelmingly better than what they hand you at the beginning. It’s also present when you fail. You get kudos and rewards in many events for finishing, say, 6th.

I realize why they do all this - some people want to drive the cult classics, or slower cars, and the system is designed to allow it. I still kind of miss the old stuff though. It’s a me thing.

I’d like to see what these designers could do with a Midnight Club style game.

I love the frictionless part myself. In the Horizon games at least due to the open world nature.

Forza is where I go for driving challenge. Horizon is where I go to do stupid tricks to level up. I love it.

And, yeah, reviewers all indicated that Mexico works better for variety of locales and as a fun to explore place. The UK was a bit samey.

Yeah that makes sense. I don’t play Forza Motorsport because it’s too hardcore and sterile for me.

Anyone playing have pet cars? Ones to avoid?

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo has surprisingly been awesome. Handles very smoothly.

Two of my favorite cars in real life are the Lexus LFA and the Lamborghini Urus. The LFA spins out too easily and the Urus turns too slowly.

I ran into an issue where, even though I was logged into my Xbox account on my PC, clicking said account would just reload the sign-in screen over and over again. This fixed it:

Just lost about 90 minutes to it, had a blast. Forza Horizon 3 was the first one I played, and the intro to it still is one of my favorites in all of gaming. This comes close in that regard, as the opening was just breathtaking.

At least in the first few hours, this game melts time, which is just what I needed.

I mean, that's all I'm looking for. Lemme go vroom vroom in car, turn off think brain.

Seems like Forza. Always enjoy Horizon. The car list is kind of insane. I introduced a friend to the series and as a non gamer I think he had fun.

I like the multiple levels of horizon sites so progression is more gradual. The car list is insane. It doesn’t feel like anything different to me, but I loved 4 so more and a new map, new cars, some tweaks. Yea I hope to make friends with a lot of you in the game.

You will love this game.

I've always been hesitant to try the Horizon series of games, Motorsport series and actual tracts always appealed to me, give me the 'Ring or give me death.

That said, loving this game. Just wish more of my friends could get in, several are experiencing crashes just as the tutorial reaches the character creation faze.

I just got done watching The Grand Tour episode where they reviewed the McLaren 720S, and just got it via a spin. Loving that thing, watching the wing work in acceleration and braking is cool. I'm also loving the BMW M5 2018, picked it up to compete in the Super Sedan series race, it is quick with AWD, can hit 200mph and lives just on the edge to break free and drift.

Ooh, thanks for the BMW recommendation. I had a hard time in that series using the Jaguar XE I got from a spin.

I'm not sure this has a lot of real value in the game, but if you search for GWJ in the Clubs, you should find a GWJ - Racing Dorks club I created. Feel free to join.

This game makes a hell of a first impression

It really does. I remember FH4 having a similarly great opening, but the graphics here are just astounding.

First Impressions: Car handling feels different from FH4; cars seems heavier with more inertia - it's easier to overcorrect and go into oscillating overcorrections. The landscape is much more vertical compared to FH4 and you can feel the vertical changes more in the car handling and engine response - however some of the road slopes seem unrealistically steep, like the hilly passages and roads in the Ubisoft open world games. I think I like the feel of the cars better in this new game.

Graphics are great (XSX) but after months of previews about how great the graphics were, the new look was a little underwhelming. Still, I'm frequently struck by the presentation - mostly with the road surfaces and the distant vistas. The humans, which are firmly in uncanny valley territory, seem almost out of place in the world.

Nothing beats 3 in my mind for first impressions but 5 comes damned close.

I agree with everything except the handling. I feel like there's too much deadzone for me. And there's a slight loss of sense of speed and danger in the handling. I need to take more the handhold stuff off. I really felt out of control in FH4 when going super fast and so far I feel way stickier here.

But those are my personal niggles. Everyone else's mileage may vary and I can't wait for the kids to go to bed.

The avatars are still gawd awful and I don't know why they continue to have them if they're going to be this awful.

Got the Divo from a random spin <3 three million credit value

Also another micro-complaint: it feels like they could/should have done more to differentiate the Street race types. It’s dusk, there’s a few non-race cars on the road, and the checkpoints look different… otherwise they’re just road races. Feels like a missed opportunity.

The jungle area + offroad racing is the closest thing to Motorstorm I've played in a long while. Really dug the race I just did.

I’m loving it just as much as I did FH4. Mexico really turned out to be a great location and the world they’ve built is a lot of fun just to drive around/mess around in. I’m glad to see Eliminator return and look forward to eventually trying out the Super 7 mode. I don’t know what to think of the new Forza Arcade as a Forzathon replacement. On the plus side for me, it looks like they have a new drifting themed Forza Arcade. Hopefully this means that the regular Forza Arcade doesn’t have drifting so I can just straight up avoid it as I thought that was the worst part of FH4 Forzathons. On the downside, I’ve tried Forza Arcade twice and haven’t had a great experience so far. The two times I tried it there were simply no other players. I’m assuming it is just server melting stuff considering as of 45 minutes ago when I logged off there were already 4.5 million players on the leaderboards.

Haven't put a whole lot of time into it yet, but so far it's pretty much Forza Horizon 4 in Mexico. Most other games that'd probably be a complaint, but I don't think I'd have wanted it any different.

Was ready to play this yesterday and then... Surprise, wife decided it was time to have the baby. Mom and baby healthy but no Forza for dad.

Racing to the hospital to have a baby > racing across a virtual digital Mexico to perform dumb stunts.

You already won. Congratulations!

Why not both? Through the miracle of Xcloud, he could have continued to play Forza even as the baby was being delivered. We call that a "win-win".

Seriously, congratulations to Balthezor!

I absolutely love how chill this game in for just popping in and popping out. Enjoying it immensely so far!

I’ve never loved a racing game like this and it has me tempted on the Hori racing wheel. Does a wheel add much to the experience in your opinions?

Yes.

And a force feedback wheel (which the Hori isn't?) will add yet more.

Oh huh, I thought it had FF. Well I’m open to recommendations!
