The language warning was not what I expected.

HOW BOUT THEM APPLES

I saw Timberborn on Steam the other day, it looked really charming. I'm not a big early access guy but might have to check it out.

One of the hosts -- Glendon, I think? -- asked if it mattered that everything is cards in Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars. I don't think this was mentioned in the episode, but VoC isn't just a Square game, it's a Yoko Taro game. For those that don't recognize him, he's the guy behind Drakengard and Nier. I would fully expect that once you get to the end of the full game, "everything is a card" will be deeply symbolic, maybe in a way that makes you question the meaning of existence.

TIL about the TRUE meaning of "blood is thicker than water"... a bit like how people say "it's just a few bad apples" to mean "isolated, non-representative cases", when the whole saying means the opposite: that it "spoils the whole barrel".

Fascinating discussion on language, too. Most of my thoughts are in D&D politics territory, but in terms of gaming, I constantly grapple with using inclusive language for newbies (itself a loaded term, depending on spelling) versus shorthand descriptors for people more familiar with games. Do only the first, and a post becomes 10x longer, do only the second and it's a hyphenated jargon-fest.

It made me wonder if you could have a living glossary of gamer terms to refer to, like a wiki that GWJers could edit and contribute to, which would probably devolve into constant arguments over what exactly is a Souls-like. OK maybe it's a bad idea. Most folks probably google terms these days anyway.

For real though, I don't want to be the reasons someone get's asked the question "daddy, what's a stripper?"

And I want to apologize to everyone who was shouting “Crimson Topaz!” at me while I got distracted by Pixie Crunch and failed to mention the stripper-iest sounding apple of all.

Crimson Topaz and Pixie Crunch sounds like the names you get from one of those "Your stripper name is" things on Twitter.

LOL. Yeah, actual stripper names are usually more thoughtful and less generic.

Spoiler:

FUN FACT: My burlesque name was originally Dick E. Lovejoy, which is also basically my actual name... but then I changed it to Silverfox Mulder.

Being a proud (Upstate) New Yorker, I felt compelled to find a list of the NY state apple cultivars. We may not have the output of Washington state, but we have quite a few heritage varietals and the horticultural labs at Cornell have created some of the most popular hybrids in apples eaten today. Also, the names on the list are a veritable rogues gallery.

The only thing standing between you and it right now is a spoon.

reminds of that olive oil commercial where a girl asks her mom “what’s a virgin?”)))

also shout out to @Karnak and all fellow linguistically inclined goojers. this episode was right up my alley.
thanks a ton y’all))

Wonderful episode! Really enjoyed the discussion and the after chat!

1. Can "Humanity has, I dunno, f*cked off?" become a new gaming sub-genre, cause I want more of that.

2. The asshole with "NON WOKE" on their license plate that I see on the highway near my office can get cancer of the dick.

I know this is a PB Whiskey post, however some individuals would like to know what kind of dog you have.

Ha! I wondered how you knew I had a dog, and then I looked again at the picture :-D. (The photo was actually taken at my office; I get to bring my dog to work with me, which is the reason I can never leave this job...)

This is her, vibing out to some chill beats:
