NBA 2021-22 Season Catch-All

That airball on a top of the key three for Tatum kinda feels like the endpoint of the game.

OMG I can't quit Twitter.

When Poole hit that at the end of the third I immediately thought of this meme, GWJ, and wondered if someone would re-post it.

Ok so I can't quit GWJ either.

Regarding the meme and in fairness to Klay, he actually had a really good game. He was just overshadowed by Wiggins who has been getting them points in ways that are basically like found money.

I fully expect game 6 Klay to show up and finish the series this week

Sometimes people talk about variance for 3s and how it can swing games.

I don't think I really appreciate how random it can be at times considering your assumption is that it evens out.

I might of misheard the stat yesterday but at a specific point in the 3rd the announcers referenced the Celtics missing 12 3s in a row and then the Warriors missing 14 in a row.

Now that's crazy imo considering the quality of players we are talking about. Maybe throw in a whole bunch of bad looks that should of never been shot but that's some extreme hot/cold.

The way to deal with that variance, though, is just to get higher percentage shots. People are talking about variance as if it's the weather and there's nothing you can do. You can do what the Warriors have done and manufacture buckets at the rim so that you can at least guarantee 2 points.

I think that's the story of the last game outside of turnovers.

It emphasizes the importance of rebounding too

Yeah. It kind of lays bare that as important as the 3-point shot has become in our analytics-driven era, things like turnovers and rebounding are still vitally important and can make the difference even when your shots aren't dropping.

Good rebounding is damage control. It either prevents your opponent from scoring or takes away more time that your opponent could use to score.

I can't think of another stat that is so understated and impactful. Perhaps assists, but assists aren't always understated and they are only an offensive tool. (rebounds being a 2 way tool and far more pedestrian)

Christian Wood to Dallas?

Interesting. Dunno if he can elevate to a legit #2 but it doesn't look like Dallas gave up much to get a potential legit starter.

Playoff basketball is funny that you need role players but you also really just need a solid 5-6 players first because when benches get shorted you really don't play that many players.

Maybe Dallas think they can unlock something defensively in Wood? With all non-MVP/DPOY Candidate Centres, except Kevon Looney, getting played off the floor in the playoffs I have a hard time seeing Wood playing well come playoff time.

On the other hand, it's not like Dallas is giving up anything much in the trade. If nothing else, Wood will be a very nice regular season Big to play with Luka

Giving up a 21-0 run when you have to win seems suboptimal.

I've never seen a team in the NBA Finals complain about the officiating more than these Celtics. I would be absolutely embarrassed if I was a fan.

Jayson Tatum:

Who is that Lionel Richie looking dude on the Warriors?

Also: happy for Wiggins' redemption story.

Steve Kerr has NINE rings.

Love it. Good job, champs.

Holy cannoli, indeed Klay.

Yep. Thanks.

My aunt used to have this piano book of Ritchie's greatest hits that we'd play on her grand and as the celebration started, it was like I was transported back to her house and seeing a young Lionel.
